Reel News July 2018
August is upon us, it is hard to
believe how fast the summer
goes. We had a fantastic
tournament at Woman Lake this
past June. While the weather
wasn’t exactly desirable, it didn’t
stop our members from getting
out there and getting their fish
on! Congratulations to Kay
Hawley, our new Grand
Champion! A huge thank you to
Erin Murray and her Tournament
Committee for planning and
l e a d i n g s u c h a g r e a t
tournament. Our shore crew
once again was nothing less
than outstanding, without them
this tournament does not
happen.
We have so many events and
trips coming be sure to go to the
events page and the trips page
on our website and check them
out. These events and trips are a
great way for you to meet other
members and continue to build
your network of other women
anglers.
Do you have an interest in
becoming a member of the
Board of Directors? Now is the
time to express your interest for
running for a Board Position.
Each year we vote for each
Board Position for the upcoming
year. If you would like to run for
a position, please email

Thank you to everyone to came and participated in our annual tournament on June
2nd at Woman Lake! We had an absolutely amazing turn-out with 142 registrants and
over 40 of those being brand new members – WOW! As the Tournament Director, it has
been so fun watching this event grow and change over the past few years. This would
not be possible without the help of my fellow volunteers (shore crew, boat crew,
committee members, board members, etc.) to whom I owe a HUGE THANK YOU – it
truly takes a village! The weather was not in our favor on the day of tournament but
many of you chose to tough-it-out and battle the wind, waves and downpouring rains
that endured throughout the day. Despite it all, we made the best of it and many
beautiful fish were weighed in! I am pleased to announce our 2018 tournament
winners. Great job to everyone who participated!

Buffalo Days Recap By Theresa Jones PAGE 5
Huge thanks to the volunteers for this event: Melissa LeBeau, Jenni Buckingham, Maddy Ogg, Jody
Virnig, Deb Samuelson, Raelee Johnson, Tracy Bracero, Isabella Bracero, Jazmin Wochnick, Deb Del-
gado, Jennifer Joseph, Tina Holm, Katie Hinz! You were all amazing and did a superb job!
Fishing Klinic For Kids was wet and windy to start the day, and was postponed for the first time ever
due to severe weather. Through it all, everyone laughed with one another and stayed cheerful with
the crowd. We had the opportunity to take to the microphone and tell the attendees a little bit
about WAM. This was NEW to us this year and a great opportunity to raise awareness for the club.
Several of us talked about what WAM meant to us individually, where/how to find us, and then we
handed out brochures to the ladies/teens in the crowd. After the fishing clinic was over, we met with
another crew of volunteers to begin organizing our boat float for the parade! Deb Delgado and her
spouse Jennifer Joseph graciously offered up their boat for the parade. The boat was decorated
with fisherwomen, piñata fish, and a bubble machine! A few of the volunteers walked alongside the
float to hand out candy to the crowd. We all laughed through the parade and talked about how
cool it was to be able to do this! The faces of the children between the fish and the bubble machine
were priceless, as were the grannies asking for candy! We found ourselves excitedly talking about
what changes and additions we wanted to make for next year! Amazing time! Volunteering at our
events is essential to implement them successfully. Continuing to educate the youth and women not
only helps to draw in new members but is at the core of our mission statement. We are always
looking for more volunteers. Please contact me if you would like to get more involved!

Rod donations Update by Theresa Jones
TJ Essig: Requested a donation for the Benson Community Ed class/kids fishing clinic.
WAM donated 32 rods that came with a tackle box and the kids all got to take them
home. The kids were absolute troopers in the heat and a few fish were even caught.
Chanda Gebhardt: Delivered these wonderful rods to a brand new fishing tournament in
Outing, MN! They are new to the community and were so thankful for this donation to the
local kiddos. Tournament took place on Saturday June 30th, 9 am. Chanda was in
attendance to distribute the rods and greet the participants. Everyone says, “Thank You
WAM” for the donation!
Hello Ladies!
On the heels of our VERY successful 40th
Anniversary party last fall, we are hosting
a similar celebration again this year!
This event will be a combination of
fundraising and member recognition.
There will be raffles and a silent auction
to help raise money for the club, and a
chance to go home with some great
prizes. There will also be a short program
commemorating another amazing year
and all that we have accomplished,
along with recognizing several members
and supporters who have gone above
and beyond with their accomplishments
and contributions.
This is a night you will not want to miss! Be
sure to keep your eye out for ticket sales
and more details being posted on the
WAM website very soon. Guests are
welcome - so be sure to mark your
calendar and tell your friends!

PM. Feel free to come and go as you please during this time. The cost is free, however if you
do not have a State Park Sticker you will need to pay $7 to enter the park. This is a designat-
