Making the most out of Medicare The Affordable Care Act offers improvements to Medicare. Now Medicare pays for more preventive services to help keep you safe and healthy. If you have Medicare, you are entitled to a yearly “Wellness” visit and other covered preventive ser-vices, along with a one-time preventive visit (called the “Welcome to Medicare” visit) within the first 12 months you have Medicare Part B. During the first 12 months that you are covered under Medicare part B, you will receive one wellness visit called “Welcome to Medicare.” After your first full year on Medicare, you are eligible for an “Annual Medicare Wellness Visit.” These visits give you and your health care provider the opportunity to develop or update your personalized prevention plan for your personal needs. Medicare covers the “Welcome to Medicare” preven-tive visit and the yearly “Wellness” visit at 100%, if their qualified health care provider accepts Medicare assignment. These exams are covered once every 12 months. The Part B deductible doesn’t apply to these preventa-tive services. However, if your doctor or other health care provider performs additional tests or services, such as follow-up of your high blood pressure, diabe-tes or any other problem during the same visit that aren’t Medicare’s preventive benefits, you will pay your usual coinsurance and the Part B deductible for the “medical problem” part of the visit. Denise Brilliant, NP, is a board certified family nurse practitioner at Aurora Health Center in Reedsville. To schedule an appointment, call 920-754-4337.

THE IMMUNE SYSTEM BY DR. BERNARD JENSEN

The immune system is made up of a system of specialized tissues, cells and antibodies as well as clean elimination channels. External to the body, the skin is our first line of defense against toxins, germs and viruses. The four elimination channels are skin, lungs, kidneys, bowel. They rid the body of food wastes and metabolic wastes that would otherwise support the growth and multiplication of harmful germs and viruses. The liver detoxifies the blood as a "backup system" for the elimination channels. The immune system is also made up of the lymphatic system which includes the spleen, tonsils and appendix, breast tissue, the thymus gland, the Kupfer cells of the liver, and Peyer's patches in the small intestine. When the elimination channels are underactive, toxic materials enter the blood and lymph systems too rapidly for the liver and immune cells to clean them out. If the immune system becomes underactive and the toxic waste debris does not move out through the natural elimination channels then chronic and degenerative diseases are the result. Nature's Sunshine's Una De Gato (Cat's Claw Combination) was developed to strengthen a weakened immune system. An interesting research… excess sugar decreases immunity for up to five hours. Researchers have found that consuming 20 teaspoons of sugar (approximately 2.5 cans of soda) can reduce the germ-killing ability of lymphocytes by 40%!!! And if you are using artificial sweet-eners, BEWARE of their dangers. July special available from Roadway To Health - 25% off the retail price of Una De Gato Contact me at: 920-772-4135 [email protected] www.mynsp.com/maryellen
