Stay motivated, stay fit this winter

With temperatures dropping and fewer hours of available daylight, it’s easy to hibernate inside our homes and avoid exercise during the winter. Don’t let cold weather sidetrack your exercise routine. You can still walk the mall, join a health club, swim at an indoor pool or exercise at home with free weights, exercise bands, an exercise ball or exercise to a video or the television. If you decide to brave the outside elements, please:

•Check with your health care provid-er first. For some people, cold air can trigger chest pain or asthma attacks.

•Dress in layers to insulate your body. If you’re out after dark, wear reflective clothing.

•Start slow and warm up first. Cold temperatures can make your muscles tight and prone to injuries.

•Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated. Cold air has a drying effect and increas-es the risk of dehydration.

•Pay attention to the wind chill, and watch for frostbite. If you think you may have frostbite, seek medical care.

•Beware of slippery surfaces and if you must go out in slippery conditions, choose appropriate footwear with enough traction to prevent falls. In addition to improving your overall level of fitness, exercising during the winter months can help shake those winter blues. Exercise improves your mood, in-creases your energy level and helps you sleep better. Give yourself a healthy head start to 2015. Keep moving this winter! Denise Brilliant, NP, is a nurse practitioner at Aurora Health Center in Reedsville. To schedule an appointment, call 920-754-4337.

THERE IS A CURE FOR THE COMMON COLD (AND FLU)THERE IS A CURE FOR THE COMMON COLD (AND FLU)THERE IS A CURE FOR THE COMMON COLD (AND FLU)THERE IS A CURE FOR THE COMMON COLD (AND FLU) You've heard that old tale which says, "There is no cure for the common cold?" Well, of course there is a cure for the common cold! If there was no cure, then how did you recover from your

last cold? Obviously, the body knows how to cure a cold because it does so all the time. You see, most people treat colds using methods that actually interfere with what the body is trying to do to cure the cold and that is

suppressing the symptoms, which is actually making the immune system work harder. As soon as you feel a cold or flu coming on,

stop eating, start drinking lots of liquids and take pungent herbs. A good formula to use is Nature's Sunshine HCP-X, which was developed 200 years ago for colds, flu, fever and other acute ailments. The old adage, "rest and drink plenty of fluids," is good

advice because water is absolutely necessary for all eliminative channels. It lubricates the colon, helps the sweat glands, waters down mucus in the respiratory passages and, of course, is needed

for kidney function. When you're coughing or sneezing, your body is trying to expel irritating substances from the sinuses and

lungs. Trying to dry up the sinuses or suppress the cough is coun-terproductive. What you want is a remedy that will break up mu-cus and then help the body expel it. ALJ is one of the most effec-tive herbal decongestant and expectorant that we know. December special available from Roadway To Health - 25% off the retail price

of HCP-X and ALJ. Contact me at: 920-772-4135 [email protected] www.mynsp.com/maryellen

SUNRISE HORSE FARM

Star is our newest addition here at Sunrise and

what a star she is. Dawn Ebben donated her for our program and included Star's history.

Star is a registered quarter horse (Star O Lena) and was born in Florida on 3/23/88. She

comes from a long line of O Lena's and is very sound minded and trustworthy. Al

Daugherty bought her for his daughter who raised her and loved her. She was trained by

Jan Reiler from the University of Finland at Green Tree Stables. Star went through

extensive training for reining and cutting and loves to do the poles and the barrels. The

best thing is that she is super smart and can innately access the degree of experience of

the person on her back. Star has always been a pleasure to ride and she LOVES chil-

dren. I have done well in competition with Star and she has done even better in competi-

tion with my children. She has always brought home Blue Ribbons. We love Star and

want to give her a great life. Star has been wonderful to our family, and now that we

have become too busy to spend the quality time that she deserves, we want to give Star

the opportunity to touch other peoples lives. That is why we donated her to Sunrise. Star

loves children and needs a "job". Thank you, again Dawn...and yes, everyone here loves

her. And this month Emily said she likes coming out to Sunrise to see the horses and to

explore the farm. She said it was cool when Angie showed her how to hear her echo in

the silo. Thank you to everyone this past year for your kindness and generosity in sup-

porting our program which has made a difference in the lives of others. May your Christmas be blessed with His presence.

Who's New in the Neighborhood? Ryan Hale knows the value of a comfortable pair of shoes. That's because he has been introducing himself to the residents in Reedsville. Hale is a financial advisor for the

financial services firm Edward Jones, and his neighborhood visits demonstrate the Ed-ward Jones way of doing business -- face to face. "At Edward Jones, we don't expect

anyone to invest with us until they know our investment philosophy," Hale said. "I believe I have a responsibility to understand the unique financial needs of each and every client, and that's why I'm paying them personal visits." Before a new Edward Jones financial

advisor even can open an office, he or she must spend several months introducing him- or herself to the residents and businesspeople in the community. "That's one of the

things that drew me to this firm," Hale said. "Edward Jones values the individual investor and understands that people still want to do business with someone they know and trust." Hale will work out of the office of Dale Kolar located at 4144 Harbor Town Lane in Mani-towoc over the next several months. He will then continue serving investors throughout

the Reedsville area from a new office. He may be reached at (920) 684-3396. Edward Jones, a Fortune 500 company, provides financial services for individual inves-tors in the United States and, through its affiliate, in Canada.
