SUGAR
You are being taught everyday to eat more sugar, to eat more candy, that your children will be healthier if you will give them more of the heat-producing elements they derive from candy, and beautifully colored ani-line dyed lollypops, made of cane sugar and glucose, are furnished galore. Sugar drains the mineral salt out of the body, thus robbing the teeth of their nourish-ment; acidosis follows as day follows night. The body passes through all these symp-toms of the first stages of malnutrition; nervousness, neuritic affections of all sorts, headaches, muscular pain, systemic catarrhal conditions until all the mucus membranes of the body are belching this nasty catarrahal mucus which furnishes the soil in which gems may multiply. And you must not forget that the germs are there ready to carry out their functions at the opportune time.. In chil-dren, as the catarrhal conditions become aggravated, they will be constantly catching cold. The tonsils and adenoids will enlarge. Interesting to say the least. One might think that is a recent article. It is from a book by P.L.Clark, M.D. How To LIVE and EAT for HEALTH in 1922. The book is fascinating and tells the story of the importance of keeping our bodies healthy by right food choices, which in turn keeps our gut healthy. The IN.FORM program is so much more than this article can portray. It is all about learning healthy living for our families and if weight loss is necessary, that will happen. If the IN.FORM class is not an option, please call for another time. The information you learn is tremendous.

THE FISHER HOUSE: “A Home Away from Home” The Gosz-Novak American Legion Auxiliary, Unit # 199 of Reedsville recently received a thank you letter for their donation to the FISHER HOUSE, a home away from home, for military and veteran families, so they can be close to
their loved ones during hospitalization for illness, disease or injury. The newly built Fisher House is located on the Clement Zablocki Medical Center Property in Milwaukee. It opened to it’s first guests on April 25, 2016, and through Decem-
ber of 2016 it had been able to help 460 families providing a home away from home, allowing veteran families to be together during extended treat-
ment or hospitalization. The Fisher House is a 13,000 square foot facility with 16 private guest suites. There is no fee for families to stay at this facility. The
manager of the home will determine the eligibility and advise the family on the status of room availability, rooms are assigned on first come first served basis. The Zablocki VA center in Milwaukee provides first class medical care to over
50,000 veterans from 26 states, including those with spinal cord injuries, at the state of the art Spinal Cord Injury Center. For more information about The
Fisher House of Wisconsin go to www.fisherhousewi.org or contact Jennifer Kiefer, Manager, at 1-888-469-6614 ext. 45005. The local American Legion
Auxiliary is able to provide donations to veteran projects like this, because of the Reedsville community’s generous support of our local Poppy program,
which we will be promoting throughout the month of May.

Reedsville Alumni Association We would like to congratulate the wrestling team on a history-making year. As a team, they just missed out on representing
Reedsville at state. But there were a school record seven young men attending the individual state competition. The
entire team made our school proud. During the month of April we are preparing for the 2017
graduation. Seniors who have a parent(s) and/or grandparent(s) that graduated from Reedsville are encouraged to fill out
our scholarship application. We will again be awarding $1000 to a qualifying graduate.
We are still looking for volunteers to help with a 60th birthday celebration for your association. It can be a great time to
catch up with all alumni, not just those who attended school the same time you did.
We are always looking for updated mailing addresses or email addresses. If your class is celebrating a class reunion this year, don’t forget to keep us updated. Or, if you need
help finding somebody, we might be able to help. You can contact us by email at [email protected] or mailing to
PO Box 431, Reedsville, WI 54230.

American Legion Auxiliary members of the Gosz/ Novak Unit 199 of Reedsville understand the sacrifice our Armed Forces have made to preserve freedom and to honor past and current service members. Members of the Gosz/Novak Unit # 199 auxiliary will be wearing a red Me-morial Poppy, as a symbol of the price of war and the sacrifice of millions, as a sign of their appreciation this month of May and the Memorial Day weekend. The 900,000 members of the American Legion Auxiliary, the world’s largest women’s patriotic service organization, are asking everyone to wear a Poppy on Memorial Day weekend. “Wear it in honor of the millions of Americans who have willingly served our nation, all too many of whom made the ultimate sacrifice, said Jane Kalies, Auxiliary President, of the Gosz/Novak Unit #199 Reedsville. The Poppy also honors Wisconsin’s disabled veterans at the Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee who make the red crepe paper Poppy. Wisconsin’s Red Poppies provide financial and therapeutic benefits to these veterans, as well as the thousands of veterans and their families who benefit from the donations collected from the distribution of the Auxiliary Poppy. In the battlefields of Belgium during World War I, poppies grew wild amid the ravages of war. The overturned soils of battle enabled the poppy seeds to be covered, allowing them to grow and forever serve as a reminder of the bloodshed of war. This is the 98th Anniversary of the National American Legion Organization, which was char-tered by congress directly after the ending of World War 1. The Reedsville Post of the Gosz American Legion had it’s beginning in 1921 and the Reedsville Auxiliary was formed shortly after. In 1946, after the death of Charles Novak of Reedsville, who was serving his country, and was killed in an airplane crash in Texas, the name of the Post was changed to Gosz/Novak American Legion Post #199. Each year the Gosz/Novak Auxiliary Unit chooses a Poppy Princess from their Junior Members. This year the Poppy Princess is, Noel Rataichek, daughter of Cheryl Rataichek of Milwaukee. She is the granddaughter of Cletus & Emily Rataichek of Brillion. Noel is in the 3rd grade at a Milwaukee Public Elementary School. Please join Reedsville’s American Legion Auxiliary on Saturday, May 6th, and Friday & Saturday, May 12th and 13th, as members distribute Poppies at the Town Mart in Reedsville, and vari-ous other businesses in the community throughout the month of May. There will also be a distribution of poppies at Holy Family Church in Brillion on May 20th and 21st following the Masses. All the funds raised by the unit through the distribution of the poppies will be used for veterans and their families, and for different veteran programs in our district, state and nation. Locally the Reeds-ville Auxiliary Unit is able to provide at least one- $100 Scholarship to a deserving graduating senior, whose father, mother, grandfather/grandmother or a great grandparent were a member of a Legion Post anywhere. Please recognize the sacrifice our veterans have made by making a donation to the poppy fund and by wearing a red Poppy proudly.
