WHEN AND WHERE DO ERUPTIONS TAKE PLACE? HOW INTENSE ARE THEY? ARETHERE RESOLVABLE CHANGES IN PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS PRIOR TO ERUPTIONS?

• Of 441 volcanoes in 16 developingcountries 384 have little or nomonitoring, including 65 volcanoesidentified as posing a high risk tolarge populations1

• 500 million people living within thepotential exposure range of an activevolcano2

• Volcanoes are poorly monitored.HyspIRI will provide an hithertounavailable capability to monitorglobal volcanism at high spatial andhigh temporal resolution
