Reddam House High School Newsletter Volume 17 Issue 34
Friday 10th November 2017
Dear Parents & Caregivers,
The HSC students have finished their examinations. A
joyous time for them and many have reported that
they are not quite sure what to do with themselves.
We see them again for their Formal next Wednesday
and invite all their parents to Pre-Formal Drinks on the
rooftop at Woollahra. Over the last few years, this has
become a tradition and gives parents, students and
teachers an opportunity to come together for photos
as well and an opportunity for a social get together
as a complete group. This is the final celebration of
the outstanding students who have been part of the
2017 Year 12 cohort. Their results come out on 14th
December and we eagerly await these.
I am very excited to confirm that the nominations for
Art Express have come in and that Reddam has 3 stu-
dents who have been nominated to be exhibited in
the 2018 exhibition. We would like to congratulate:
Indi Swinton: Drawing
Tom Howarth: Digital Media
Andre Pires: Photography
These students have received the top marks in Visual
Arts and we look forward to seeing if they are select-
ed for the exhibition. We have many incredible stu-
dents in Visual Arts this year. The criteria for getting a
nomination for Art Express is becoming even tougher
as it is not just marks based. As it is a public exhibition,
works can be deemed not suitable as they are refer-
encing contemporary practice and are too contro-
versial even though they may have received top
marks. We definitely have students in this bracket.
On Monday evening the Dance Department present-
ed ―SOAR‖ which was a celebration of passion, ambi-
tion, determination and creativity. This is the first time
we have ventured out from Adelaide Hall and the
presentation at NIDA’s Playhouse was the perfect
venue that complimented the brilliance of the dance
performances.
I think the message in the programme from Ms. Collier
Walsh sums up the philosophy of the Dance Depart-
ment. ―As 2017 draws to an end I feel proud as I reflect
on all that we have achieved this year in the High
School Dance Department. Students have danced in
musicals, competed in eisteddfods, performed in bal-
lets and completed the HSC Dance course with fly-
ing colours! Each and every student enters our studio
with a true passion and respect for the art form of
dance. They exhibit unrelenting determination to ex-
tend their skills, challenging themselves to ambitiously
set the bar high and dream big. They generously share
who they are and create without fear, bravely testing
their capabilities and potential as young artists. As you
can imagine, the Dance Studio at Reddam House is an
inspiring and vibrant place to be. Tonight's showcase
highlights the diverse talents amongst our young danc-
ers and the strong community spirit we share.‖
My thanks and congratulations to Emily Knight, Delia
Harrington and the ever effervescent Liz Collier Walsh
who have created such a vibrant dance fraternity.

On Tuesday the Sports Awards were presented to all of
our outstanding sportsmen and sportswomen. The vari-
ety of sports that students take part in and the excep-
tional levels of achievement attained always impresses
me. It is also wonderful to reward students who play
sports not offered by the school.
The highest award of Sport Honours for National repre-
sentation or winning a national championship was pre-
sented to the following students:
Nathanial Milanovic for National representation in Ice
Hockey.
Hudson Berry for being the national champion in surf
lifesaving’s beach sprints.
Nikki Collins for being part of the U12 National Water-
polo Championship gold medal winning team.
Charlie Rule for her NSW Futsal Team being the winners
of the National Championships.
Tia Hinds for being selected into the All Australian
Schools AFL Team.
Zachary Sapsford for making the Australian Maccabiah
Futsal Team, NSW Thunder Team winners Australian
Championships, MVP for NSW.
Miles Davis for representing the Australian U16 School-
boys hockey side.
Yonatan Freund for representing Australia in Karate in
the World Games.
The RHAP Awards for the performing arts was a magnif-
icent, albeit long evening celebrating the achieve-
ments of students in Dance, Drama, Art, Public Speak-
ing, Music and Chess. Once again the brilliance of the
performances on the evening which accompanied
the presentation of the awards was spell-binding. To
watch the students in the audience is often an indica-
tor of these performances. They were completely en-
gaged and appreciative of what they were seeing.
My thanks and congratulations to Dr. McGregor who
coordinated the evening and each of the depart-
ments who contributed to the success of our students
in the Visual and Performing Arts.
Adina Herz was awarded
her Honours on the even-
ing for having achieved
four full colour awards for
Dance, Drama, Music
and Academics.
Only Year 12 students re-
ceived this award at this
time. All other students in
Years 7 – 10 will receive
their Honours Awards at
the end of year Academ-
ic Prize-Giving.
Mr. Garratt has asked me to
remind parents of students
wanting to go to India with
World Challenge for next
year’s International Commu-
nity Service Project that
deposits are due by Monday.
Year 10 students start their
Yearly Examinations today and Middle School starts a
revision week next Wednesday. For those students
who find these periods exceedingly stressful Danna
Fain has been engaged to offer yoga, mindfulness
and meditation which will commence on Monday
13th November until Friday 24th November from
7:30am to 8:15am. The cost will be $10 per session.
Have a wonderful week,
Dave Pitcairn

YEAR 9 DRAMA NIGHT
TUESDAY 14TH NOVEMBER @ 6.30PM
It's been a year of leaps and bounds for the Year 9
Elective Drama students. To celebrate their many
achievements, we are presenting an evening of short
plays for family and friends that will also be the stu-
dents' last formal practical assessment for the year.
The plays all deal with the theme of mental health and
remind us that Drama can be a thought-provoking
and sensitive way to create discussion and raise
awareness surrounding important issues. The event is
free and will be in the Drama Studio at the Bondi
Campus.
