I WANT YOU! Those three words were made famous on a poster of Uncle Sam, seeking to recruit solders to serve in the armed forces for WW I and WW II. Rather than pointing a finger in your face, I am opening arms of invitation to say I WANT YOU to join us in worship the weekends of August 19 through September 30 for what we are calling the Red Letter Challenge. I feel so strongly about YOU joining us for these seven weekends that we are making the effort to have members of St. Peter’s deliver these books to every household in our congregation. That’s a lot of work, but YOU are worth it! If you or other members of your family would like an additional copy, they will be available before and after the services the weekends of August 19 and 26. During these seven weeks, the Red Letter Challenge will saturate every facet of our ministry. The students of our school will be focusing on a different aspect of the Red Letter Challenge in their Wednesday chapels. In addition, the children of our Sunday school will be learning and living the Red Letter Challenge. It will be the focus of our junior high EXPLORE (confirmation) this fall. Our high school youth will be devoting time to the Red Letter Challenge. Even our “Life | Fitness” classes (aerobics, stretching, strength training, etc.) will integrate something from the Red Letter Challenge in their sessions. Life is best lived when it is lived in community. The Red Letter Challenge has the greatest potential to effect positive change in your life and in your relationship with Jesus if you share I WANT YOU —to join US!

Just for fun… Wear something red the weekend of August 19!

that experience with others. Therefore, small groups for adults is another huge component of the Red Letter Challenge. Some of you will remember when we went through The Purpose Driven Life, written by Pastor Rick Warren. During those forty days, many of us were involved in small groups that met weekly in homes, at church or somewhere else in the community. In addition to having you join us for worship during these seven weeks, I would also like to be so bold as to say that I WANT YOU to participate in a Red Letter Challenge small group. If circumstances prevent you from small group participation, I understand, but I would like to enthusiastically encourage you to participate in a six-week Red Letter Challenge small group if you are able. Please be on the lookout for small group sign-up opportunities in the narthex of the church. If you would like assistance in connecting with a group, please see Pastor Chad Foster, Deaconess Intern Michele Doel, Dustin Weber, or George Denholm. This is a great time for all of us, we who make up the Body of Christ at St. Peter’s, to come together to be encouraged as well as challenged with the red letter words of Jesus.

In His Love,
