This quilt is a free Mystery BOM: Each month I will release a block and instructions in PDF format. This format is easy to follow, print and use. This block will be available for free through my blog, es-theraliu.blogspot.com for 30 days. After 30 days, a new block will be released, with the previous block being removed. If you would like to have the block after the 30 day period, you can purchase it through my Etsy shop online for minimal cost. This Mystery BOM is an original quilt based on original and folk art inspirations. I will

be working this quilt in red (with a white background) however this quilt would be equally stunning in black and white, neutrals or any stash busting tone that takes your fancy. My motto for this quilt is stash busting. This quilt will be a true scrappy as I will not be buying any additional fabric. There are 11 blocks in total: 1. Love Birds 2. Nighshade 3. Love Apple 4. Cherry Blossom 5. Ruby Tea 6. Peony Bloom 7. Fanfare 8. Rose Delicious Delight 9. Forest Reds 10. Cherry Basket 11. Give and Take Swirly Important: All patterns are line drawn only. No seam allowance is added. Remember that you have to mirror image when using fusible webbing.

Materials: This is a mystery BOM, each block will be released in a monthly order, give or take a few days, and smaller blocks will be released together to speed the mystery along. The material requirements are: • Light background fabric, approx 2 meters • Sashing—approx 60cm • Border—approx 60cm • Darker reds for accent • Various reds and scraps for appliqué • This BOM is a true stash buster, I suggest using as many reds a possible! For Shops, Clubs and Groups: This is a free BOM. I’m happy for you to make as many quilts and or use individual blocks from the quilt as desired (for personal use only) as long as I am identified as the author of the work. Do not sell or publish any part or variation of Red Delicious. Shops who sell patchwork and quilting patterns are welcome to use this pattern in a kit or class to promote your business as long as I am identified as the author of the work. Red Work: This pattern is suitable for Red Work– needle turn technique or VliesoFix (fusible webbing) Needle turn appliqué: This pattern is suitable for needle turn appliqué Button Stitch or Satin Stitch Appliqué: This pattern is suitable for Button Stitch appliqué, With fusible webbing. Sashing and Borders: The background, sashing and borders are the only elements of this quilt that are worked in yardage. All other appliqué pieces are patches, leftovers, fat quarters and scraps.

BLOCK 1: Lovebirds Finished block size: 16.5 inches x 6.5 inches

CUTTING:

White / light background = 16.5inches x 6.5 inches

Red scraps: select 8 different fabrics

1. Bird bodies = 7inch x 6inch

2. Scalloped background detail = 15inch x 3inch

3. Bird legs = 6inch x 3inch

4. Beaks = 3inch x 1inch

5. Tail and wing = 6inch x 6inch

6. Cherry = 4inch x 2inch

7. Second wing = 4inch x 2.5 inches

8. Third wing = 4inches x 2.5 inches

Add 2 sashings to top and bottom of block of 16.5 inch x 1.1/4inch

Note: Put sashing down first as bird legs go slightly over the sashing

boundary.

Method:

Trace design onto plastic template so that you can transfer to freezer

paper or fusible webbing, whatever technique you will be using. ( I

prefer plastic template so that I can mirror image easily.
