During an arraignment heard by Superior Court of
Guam Magistrate Judge Alberto Tolentinoyesterday, Rector pleaded not guilty to all charges,
confirmed Eric Palacios, spokesman for the Officeof the Attorney General.
The criminal complaint against Rector stated he
allegedly made a false statement under oath,
which he didn't believe to be true, when he noted
on two Guam Police Department firearms
applications that he had no prior convictions.
Last November, Rector filed an application for a
concealed firearm permit, on which he confirmed
he had never been convicted of any crime.
However, a detailed background check during the
permit process revealed the then-senator had
previously been charged with burglary as a felonyin California in 1981. He later pleaded guilty to
burglary as a misdemeanor, and was sentenced to
probation, according to Pacific Daily News files.
Rector has been trying to expunge his California
criminal record, according to a statement on his
website.
Palacios said Rector is next scheduled to appear
in court on Aug. 3.
