PHASE 4 PHONICS

In Phase 4 children are not taught any new phonemes (sounds) or graphemes (letter or

letters that represent a sound). Instead, they

are taught to further manipulate the phonemes and graphemes they have

already learnt. Many of the words children explored in Phase 2 and 3 were

monosyllabic (words of one syllable). In Phase 4 children explore more polysyllabic

words (words containing more than one syllable).

Many of the words in Phase 2 and 3 required children to blend approximately three sounds

together in order to read them. Phase 4 requires children to blend an increasing

number of sounds together in order to read. As children progress through Phase 4 they

become more confident and skilled in reading and spelling words with a greater

number of letters and graphemes.

Yesterday you looked at pictures of dinosaurs and described them

orally.

Today can you write your descriptions down in a sentence

using these words to help you. Plate, spike, horn, tail, beak,

wings, neck, legs

*Remember to using a capital letter at the start of your

sentence and a full stop to end

your sentence.

For example; A diplodocus has a long neck.

Extend your sentence using

‘and’ or ‘because’.

A diplodocus has a long neck

and short legs.

today.

Looking at the front cover

what can you see? What do you predict is going to

happen in this story? Read the blurb. Do you

want to change your prediction?

This half term you are going to write a dinosaur story so you

need to think about your

dinosaur character and how you would describe it.

Draw a picture of your dinosaur, what is it called?

For example, Daisy the Diplodocus.

Can you write a description for

your character?

Things to include: What do they look like? Sound

like? How do they move? What is their personality like?

You can use some ideas from

the story Stomp Dinosaur Stomp to help you.

Daisy the Diplodocus is a happy dinosaur, she loves to swish her

long, strong tail. This helps her to stay safe if there is an enemy

around. She walks slowly, her short legs thud the ground as

she moves. Daisy loves to munch on leaves and uses her

long neck to reach the best

leaves.

Physical Development Can you aim for a target? This might be

using a ball or beanbag, using your hand

or foot or even with a racket or bat. You might even want to have a go at the tea

bag challenge! Take a look at Mr Riedlinger’s challenge on Tapestry – set

your own challenge. Good luck!

Creation – Who Cares for This Special World and Why?

Talk about how Christians believe that God created everything and everything He has created is special to Him. Even slugs, wasps and ants! Who can we think of people who look after God’s world? (Eg farmer, zoo keeper, gardener, park keeper) Is it just up to them to keep the world special? Who else should help? We are all good at different things; what are you good at? How could you use that to take care of the world? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-
