Our schools are designed to enable the students to be successful. Words cannot express my sincerest appreciation for all of you, as instructional leaders, for being active and knowledgeable participants in the Division of Educational Opportunity Access' 2015-16 Instructional Leaders Cohort. These professional development sessions were always linked to the mission of building capacity while collaborating with personnel from similar educational settings. ~Michelle Ulysses-Grant Networking for Teaching Entrepreneurship DEOA and COPE Center North congratulates Kiera Wesby for winning first place at the NFTE 10 th Annual Regional Business competition on May 26 th . Kiera is the CEO of Baby Bliss, “A mother’s best friend.” She will be honored in Tampa by Ernst & Young on June 9 th and is looking forward to competing at the National competition in New York in October. The Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship's mission is to provide programs that inspire young people from low-income communities to stay in school, to recognize business opportunities and to plan for successful futures. This is the first year that NFTE has been offered at COPE Center North, which was made possible through a grant given by AT&T. Good luck Kiera! Wallace COPE Center celebrates the Class of 2016 with a Transitional Ceremony The Class of 2016 participated in their annual Transition Ceremony held at Robert Morgan Educational Center. It was a bittersweet moment as seniors received a transitional certificate. Parents/guardians, friends, mentors and underclassmen watched the program with tears flowing, smiles, applause and much excitement! A special thanks to Mrs. Annette Burks-Grice, Principal for this innovative idea for our girls!

Students (between the ages of 14 to 17) and parents participated

in a two-day Family Empowerment Summit hosted by The Parent

Academy and the Division of Education Opportunity and Access.

Students and parents participated in dialogue related to

preventative measures associated with youth violence. The Family

Empowerment Summit was hosted at three (3) locations: South

Dade Skill Center, D.A. Dorsey Technical College, and Carol City
