Realization of Education Scholarship 2016

DescriptionFirst of all, I would like to say thank you for your support especially because of the extendedsupport you gave to us and because of your help to seek additional funding from other donors(Kolfffonds). Through these funds we can help more poor children.

Until now, we still consistent to distribute scholarship for children from the poor families. Wedistribute scholarship for the student from elementary school until Vocational High School.In our consideration, there are two elements that the poor children should have; basiceducation and skills. In Indonesia, basic educations are from elementary school until Juniorhigh school and the children can learn skills from vocational high school. These two thingsmakes poor children can prepare themselves for work.

For the new academic year (2016-2017), we opened scholarship registration on June 20. Itwas more than 550 students sent application of scholarship (new applicants and continuousscholarship receiver). Realino (included volunteers) did all procedures to select theapplicants, by observation and interview the new applicants. There were 7 volunteers thathelped us to observe the new applicants. They were university student that at in the semesterbreak.

Through observation and interview, we realized that there are many complicated problems inthe family of new applicants. There were not only financial problem (poor family) which isbecome the reason of students to propose applicant. The other background is broken home,which like divorce, conflict, etc. That situation (broken home) weaken financial support,including education fund, because only one of their parents who get to earn money. From thenew applicant, more than 30% face the family problem.

The most difficulty of the selection is making decision, which will be accepted and rejected.It is not easy to reject because education is important and every child deserve it. In ourdiscernment, we were aware that our capacity is limited. So we have to reject applicants whoare not urgent to get scholarship. Based on observation and interview, we categorized theapplicants into 3 categories: very urgent, urgent, and not urgent. Finally, we decided toreceive 450 students for this academic year (2016-2017).

Children who receive scholarships come from several poor areas, for example: Wonogiri,Bandungan, Sukorejo, Weleri and Wonosari. The Children who receive scholarships alsocome from poor families, which most of their parents work as farm laborers with a very smallincome.

New AwarenessBased from the data of the applicant, we have new awareness when we visited someelementary school in Jogjakarta. We realized that there are a lot of families that facedifficulties to send their children to school due to economic conditions. We saw the economicgap between the rich and the poor. Unfortunately, there are a lot of poor families that not getsupport from government. From that data, we reflected and decided that the urban poor arepriority for us to help.

The other notion is the parents who become depend on the scholarship too much.Dependency of the scholarship made the parents is effortless to support the financial of theirchildren education. As response of this situation, in this academic year, we are going tointensify the communication between schools, parents and us. We hope that by intensivecommunication, we can make collaboration and give awareness. The awareness is thatdespite of all elements should be responsible to children education, the first part who hasmain responsibility is the parents.

RealizationWe are very grateful for the additional funds you gave for us. Through that fund, we can helpmore poor children. The whole of the funds are distributed. In this part, I would like to giveaccount report the donation. The first part is the global calculation of donations and therealization. The second part is a list of scholarship recipients.
