The purpose of this installation option is to make maintanance easier for thosecases wheremultiple copies of COMPRESS are running over a network. This installation option causes eachworkstation to use the same "compwin.exe" (COMPRESS executable) and "ASME.MDB" (materials database). These shared files will be installed on one central machine (also called a server) on the network.

First you will need a "Key Server" installation of COMPRESS as outlined below.

Instructions for installing the "Key Server" version of COMPRESS:

    1) Run the COMPRESS installation on the central computer/server.

    2) Choose the "Key Server" configuration when that selection appears.

    3) Make sure you share the folder which contains the file "compwin.exe" (by default this would be "c:\Codeware\COMPRESS").

Next you will need to install the "Shared Client" configuration on all workstationswhich will be running COMPRESS over the network.

Instructions for installing COMPRESS on workstations using the "Shared Client" option:

    4) Run the COMPRESS setup on the desired workstation (also called the local computer).

    5) When setup prompts you for a Destination Folder you MUST select a folderon this workstation (local computer). Make sure that you don't choose the rem

ote "Key Server" folder as the Destination Folder even if appears as the default choice.

    6) The next screen will present you with a choice of setup types - choose "Shared Client".

    7) Next setup will prompt for the path to the remote "Key Server" installation of COMPRESS on the "Key Server" computer. This is the location "compwin.exe"

as specifiedin step 3) above. Click the "Browse" button in the "Choose Folder" dialog to

select the the "Key Server" computer and the shared folder that contains compwin.exe. Press "Ok". At this point the "Choose Destination Location" dialog should contain the network location

where COMPRESS has been installed as key server.

    8) Click next and follow the instructions presented.

Once the "Key Client" workstation setup is complete, the shortcuts to COMPRESS should be pointingto the "Key Server" computer. Updating the "Key Server" installation on the server is usuallyall that's required to bring all workstations up to date with the latest versionof COMPRESS!

Note: it may be necessary to reinstall all client machines if any system level DLL (Msvcrt.DLL etc.) changes. This should be a rare occurance.
