God makes promises to Abram of extraordinary good fortune, political protection, and international status. The man must have been thrilled. Paul reminds Timothy that the life of holiness and blessing to which we have been called is a gift from God; always available to us, and not a reward for any good works we might have performed. And then we hear of Jesus’ transfiguration in the sight of a few disciples. They were so overwhelmed by that spectacular experience they wanted to pitch tents so they wouldn’t have to leave the place. How are such wondrous ideas penitential? While God’s marvelous blessings are free gifts, we are expected to respond to them appropriately, to accept them and use them for the common good. Abram’s blessings were not simply for him and his family. “All the families of the earth will find blessing in you” (Genesis 12:3). His blessings would open a door to others— other nations, other ethnic groups, other religious communities. Abram was not simply chosen by God. He was chosen so that others might be blessed through him. Timothy was instructed to “bear your share of hardship for the gospel” (2 Timothy 1:8). The blessing might be a gift, but it carried the responsibilities of discipleship. The voice from heaven told the disciples: “Listen to him” (Matthew 17:5). Being chosen by God or having seen the glory of Jesus calls for a change of mind and heart. This change isn’t easy to accomplish. It is the reason for penance. Sr. Dianne Bergant, CSA Liguori Publications A Word from Pope Francis The event of the Lord’s transfiguration offers us a message of hope—thus shall we be, with him. Lenten Evenings of Reflection at St. Teresa's

'Be Still and Know That I am God" St Teresa's Parish will offer evenings of reflection

during Lent. If you would appreciate the opportunity to

get away from the noise and bustle of everyday life for

an hour or so, this might be just the kind of thing you're

looking for. These evenings are:

Thursday, March 12, 7:8:30 p.m. and

Thursday, March 19, 7-8:30 p.m.

The sessions will be an exploration of the meaning and

spirit of Lent through some of our most beloved and

meaningful hymns, led by Anne Walsh and our parish

Director of Music, Noreen Greene-Fraize.

Feast of St. Clement Hofbauer C.Ss.R.,

Sunday, March 15

St. Clement Hofbauer was a Redemptorist, often

called the "second founder" of the Congregation of the

Most Holy Redeemer (the Redemptorists). He was born

in 1751 and died in 1820. St. Clement found creative

ways to proclaim the Gospel in times and places of

great challenge. One of Clement's most famous sayings

was "The Gospel must be proclaimed ever anew." We

can learn a lot from him as we try to proclaim the Good

News in our own times. On March 15, we celebrate the

200th anniversary of the death of St. Clement in all our

Masses here at St. Teresa's. After the 11:30 am Mass,

we welcome you to a social in the foyer of the church.

St. Bonaventure's College will be hosting an Open

House on Sunday, March 29th from 1:00pm-

3:00pm. Interested parents and students are invited to

meet Faculty members from various academic

departments, discover what makes our music &

athletics program unique and learn about innovations in

curriculum supporting students learning in S.T.E.A.M.

To continue to provide affordable access to St. Bon’s

for all families, St. Bon’s has a bursary program which

provides financial aid towards the cost of tuition.

As it is flu season in Newfoundland, in an effort to

avoid as much as possible the spread of the flu, I ask

that, until further notice, all the parishes of the

Archdiocese discontinue the practise of reception of

Holy Communion from the chalice and I ask

parishioners not to exchange the Sign of Peace in ways

involving physical contact such as shaking hands.

Please join with me in praying for all those struggling

with illness and health problems, I remain Yours in Christ,

Development and Peace

March 8 –

International Women’s Day

Development and Peace recognizes,

Yesica Patiachi Tayori of the Peru’s

Harakbut Indigenous community who

was invited to the Synod of Bishops for

the Pan-Amazon Region in October

2019. She said, “We, the Indigenous peoples, have

been, are and will always be the guardians of the forest.

But caring for our common home is everyone’s

responsibility, not just that of Indigenous peoples.”

Development and Peace’s partner, the Amazonian

Centre for Anthropology and Practical Application

(CAAAP), helps the Indigenous peoples of the Amazon

ensure that their rights and territories are respected. On

this International Women's Day, let us salute the

courage of women like Yesica, who bravely lead the

defence of the land, water and people. Watch Yesica’s

testimony at devp.org/campaign/yesica. Please reflect

on the prayer card in your bulletin.

Mass Intentions are now accepted up to March 2021.

Due to the large number of mass requests received each

year for deceased family members, we have limited the

number of requests to three per family per year.

Additional mass intentions will be sent to the

Redemptorist Missions.

Way of the Cross, for Our Common Home – Basilica

of St. John the Baptist, Friday, March 27, 2020, 7 pm.

Join us as we reflect on the crisis in the Amazon in the

light of Jesus’ passion, death and resurrection, and to

hear the cry of the forest and of the Indigenous and

traditional communities protecting it. Hosted by the

Basilica Parish Development and Peace Committee as

part of the Share Lent Campaign.
