That through our generosity we keep God first and money second. “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the
one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon (material wealth).” (Matthew 6:24)
For many people, God and money run “neck and neck” as their first priority. Making money and spending money becomes the center of their life and they actually become a slave to money.
The solution— become more generous. Giving money to Church and charity frees us from slavery to money and from making
money a “god” before God.

Para mucha gente, Dios y el dinero corren “cabeza a cabeza” como su primera prioridad. Ganar dinero y gastar dinero se
convierte en el centro de sus vidas y en realidad se convierten en esclavos del dinero. La solución– ser mas generoso. Dar dinero a la Iglesia y a la caridad nos libera de la esclavitud del dinero y
de hacer del dinero un “dios” ante Dios.

The sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is offered for a person of the Catholic faith; an adult or a child over the age of seven who is seriously ill, or for a person about to receive surgery for a serious condition, and for those suffering the difficulties and weakness of old age.

Responsorial Psalm The Responsorial Psalm follows the silence after the first reading. Occasionally this is taken from other parts of the Scripture, but ordinarily it is from the Book of Psalms in the Old Testament. It is designed in the form of dialogue. The cantor sings the antiphon and all repeat it. The verses are sung by the cantor; after each verse the antiphon is sung again by the assembly. Occasionally, for lack of a cantor, the psalm is recited instead of sung. However, the Responsorial Psalm should be sung.

LENTEN GUIDELINES/ GUIAS PARA LA CUARESMA
Lent begins on Wednesday, March 1, 2017. Below are the guidelines of Lenten observance for the faithful in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.
Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fast and abstinence. Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence.
As outlined on the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops' website on Lenten fasting and abstinence, "fasting is obligatory for all who have completed their 18th year and have not yet reached their 60th year. Fasting allows a person to eat one full meal. Two smaller meals may be taken, not to equal one full meal. Abstinence (from meat) is obligatory for all who have reached their 14th year.
If possible, the fast on Good Friday is continued until the Easter Vigil (on Holy Saturday night) as the 'paschal fast' to honor the suffering and death of the Lord Jesus, and to prepare ourselves to share more fully and to celebrate more readily his Resurrection.
Fridays in Lent are obligatory days of complete abstinence (from meat) for all who have completed their 14th year.
El miércoles de Ceniza y el viernes Santo, son días de ayuno y abstinencia. Todos los Viernes de Cuaresma son días de abstinencia.
Si es posible, el ayuno del Viernes Santo se debe de continuar hasta la Vigilia Pascual (la noche del Sábado de Gloria) como el “ayuno pascual” para honrar los que sufren y la muerte de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, y para prepararnos para celebrar la Resurrección de nuestro Señor más centrados.
El ayuno es compromiso de todas las personas de 18 hasta los 59 años de edad, a menos que tengan problemas de salud. Durante los días de ayuno, se permite una comida completa y dos comidas livianas, suficientes para mantenerse fuertes de acuerdo a nuestras necesidades. No se permiten bocadillos entre comidas aunque si se puede tomar líquidos. La abstinencia es compromiso para todas las personas que han cumplido 14 años de edad, a menos que tengan problemas de salud. En los días de abstinencia no se permite comer carne. Friday, March 3 – The Youth Ministry hosts a weekly gath-ering for all High School students every Friday from 7 pm– 10 pm. Our weekly “Loft Nights” provide our youth with an opportunity to gather with their peers and build their Youth Ministry. Our Loft Night schedule commences with prayer and a brief bible study followed by games and movies or music for the remaining time. Our Loft Nights are free and there are always refreshments and snacks.
Wednesday, March 8 – The Youth Ministry will be hosting a Middle School Game Night. The event will be from 6:30 pm—8:00 pm. The night will be spent in fellowship as students play video and board games together and share pizza and snacks. This is a free community building event and all middle school students are invited to attend!

The 2017 Bazaar preparation is well under way through the leadership of Greg & Hope Gassett. Bayou Awakening Retreat Retreat for young adults ages 18-25. March 10-12, 2017 at Cameron Retreat Center (2403 Hol-combe Blvd Houston, TX. 77021). The mission of Bayou Awakening is to bring young adults to a personal encounter with Christ, provide an opportunity for spiritual renewal and to connect young adults to the Catholic Church and a safe community. Adultos católicos Bautizados 18 años y mayores que deseen recibir los sacramentos de Eucaristía y/o confirmación están invitados a asistir a las clases de formación.
