READ. PRAY. LOVE. DAILY. …WITH YOUR MUMC FAMILY!
Barry and Ben are inviting the Madison UMC family to journey through God’s Word together. On SUNDAY, JAN-
UARY 13, 2019, we will launch a church-wide Bible reading campaign.
We will read through the entire Bible in three years by simply reading one chapter a day. We will start by reading I,
II, and III John over the first seven days, which means that you will have read three books of the Bible in just one
week! Then, our regular schedule we will be to read a chapter a day from the New Testament on Sunday and Mon-
day, a chapter each day from an Old Testament book on Tuesday-Friday, and a Psalm on Saturday. We will journey
through the entire Bible and we will literally be “on the same page” with God and one another!
How can I get access to the reading plan for each day/week? Non-Digital (Newsletter): Please look for the week’s reading schedule in each issue of our Madison UMC
“THE MESSENGER” newsletter (on the back page).
Digital: 1) Madison UMC Church App – open the app and click on the “BIBLE” tab at the bottom of the
homescreen; 2) “Follow” the Blog – go to www.readpraylovedaily.com, scroll up and down slightly until a
“FOLLOW” tab pops up near the bottom right-hand side of the screen; click on the tab, enter your email address,
and you will get a notification email as soon as each day’s blog post is published; 3) Join the “Read. Pray. Love.
Daily.” Facebook Group – each day’s blog post will be shared here so people can access it from the group; or,
4) Visit/Bookmark the Blog for Daily Access – just go to www.readpraylovedaily.com or 5) Go to our Madison
UMC Facebook page on Thursdays to see the upcoming week’s readings.
What are the optional benefits of accessing the reading plan digitally?
For those who access the Bible reading plan through the online blog (see “Digital” options above), there will be a
little optional structure and guidance for prayer before and after the daily Bible reading.
Also on the daily blog post, look for a short featured video underneath the Daily Bible Reading link to either
help you understand the Bible reading (from “The Bible Project” - www.thebibleproject.com), or to expand on
an aspect of our Christian faith and discipleship.

ALTAR GUILD NEEDS YOU!! We need a few more good servants! The Altar Guild is a “behind the scenes” group responsible for more than Com-
munion each month. We set the tone for worship services and holy days such as Baptisms, Confirmation, and fu-
nerals. There are no special requirements, other than a willing heart and a desire to serve our Lord by serving His
Congregation. You will be paired with one of our current members to “learn the ropes.” If you feel called to serve
on this committee, or just want to know more, please contact Patricia Stanfield at 601-259-0480 or

CREATED BY GOD IS FEB. 21-23, 2019 All 5th grade students & their parents are invited to participate in an upcoming event called Created by God. It is a
study of human sexuality with a Christian foundation that was in fact written by Rev. James H. Ritchie, Jr., a United
Methodist minister and Christian educator.
Registration is limited to 25 students on a first-come-first-served basis, and members/regularly attendees of Madison
UMC will be given first priority.
This is a major time commitment on the part of parents, students, and volunteers, but the benefit is well worth the
investment. In addition to being provided in an arena where accurate information and proper terminology can be
gained and practiced, the students involved will better understand how their sexuality fits into God’s plan for human
relationships. Using a highly interactive approach to learning, Created by God is a lot of fun for everyone involved.
The schedule is as follows: Parents Thurs., Feb. 21, 6:00-7:00 p.m.
Students Fri., Feb. 22, 5:30-9:00 p.m.
Sat., Feb. 23, 8:30a.m.-1:30 p.m.
Students & Parents Sat., Feb. 23, 1:30-2:30 p.m.
There is an $8.00 charge for the book. Checks can be made payable to Madison UMC. In order for your child to par-
ticipate, you or another caregiver must attend the Parents Session as well as the Students/Parents Session.
To register, email me for a registration form ([email protected]). The deadline for registration is Feb.
11. After the 11th, registration will be open to non-church members. If you have any questions, feel free to call me at
the church office (601-856-6058) or send me an e-mail.

Called Session of General Conference will hold a Listen-
ing Post meeting on Sunday, January 20, at 3:30 p.m. at
Christ United Methodist Church in Jackson. Christ UMC
is located at 6000 Old Canton Road.
The goal of this event is to allow everyone a chance to
share concerns, thoughts and prayers with those who will
represent the Mississippi Conference in the coming Gen-
eral Conference taking place on February 23-26, 2019 in
St. Louis, Missouri. This event is expected to last approx-
imately two hours, but may run longer depending on how many people wish to speak. Attendees can begin to sign up
to speak at 2:30 p.m. In order to allow everyone an opportunity to share their thoughts, individual speaking time is
limited to two minutes.
We will begin a New Member Class on Sunday, February 10. It will meet for four
consecutive Sundays in the Multi-Purpose Room on the second floor of our new
Education Building during the Sunday School hour. Anyone who has joined our
church in the last few years, as well as visitors who want to know more about
Madison UMC, are invited to attend. It will be a fun and great opportunity to meet
new people, to learn about our church family, and to discover the next steps for
you to plug in to different groups, leadership and missions. Rev. Barry Male will
be leading this class.
