PLEASE KEEP US INFORMED!
One of the most critical aspects of our life at MUMC
is the celebrations we share and the care we express in
times of joy and sorrow. Within our growing congre-
gation, we sometimes can miss even the most signifi-
cant of these events. Please help our staff and leaders
know of these moments by intentionally sharing up-
coming surgeries, hospitalizations, birth announce-
ments, deaths, funeral arrangements, illnesses, etc.
Please call the MUMC office (601-856-6058) to speak with, or email, Jackie McGough
([email protected]) or Anne Ellison ([email protected]). They will communicate this infor-
mation with the pastors and various staff as appropriate.
Men of the Church,
Please join the Madison United Methodist Men's Club for our regular
monthly breakfast meeting on Sunday, July 15, 2018 in the CLC. We
eat at 7 a.m. with our business meeting and program to follow. We will
continue in our video series, "Measure of a Man". Be a friend and
bring a friend, and we will see you then!
SCOGGINS PRESENTED WITH DENMAN AWARD
The Harry Denman Evangelism Award program honors United Meth-
odists in each annual conference whose exceptional ministry of evan-
gelism – expressed in Word (what), Sign (why), and Deed (how) –
brings people into a life-transforming relationship with Jesus Christ.
Each year Annual Conferences and the Foundation for Evangelism
recognize one youth, one clergy, and one lay person in each confer-
ence.
This year the Mississippi Conference recognized Katherine Scoggins
of Madison UMC as the Youth recipient. She is shown receiving the
award from Rev. Vickie White, Director of Connectional Ministries
and Communications for the Mississippi Conference.

VBS UPDATE - A BIG THANK YOU!!!
Thanks to ALL of you who helped make VBS 2018 an incredible experience for 235 kids! Every part - the decora-
tions, snacks, center leaders, early arrival, daycare transportation, shepherds, student workers, assembly leaders,
sound booth, mission donations, nursery, custodial support, & prayers – made the difference this week. Our mission
project raised over $4,000 to help with ministries that the Moody’s are part of in Honduras. We know that a portion
of the money will be used for the construction of a fire pit & other needed improvements for the outdoor pavilion at
The Good Shepherd’s Children’s Home. THANK YOU!!!!

HEY, HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT …
TEACHING SUNDAY SCHOOL?
Before you automatically say, “NO,” hear me out!
I was thinking of all the reasons people tell me that can’t teach Sunday
School (some of them are listed below), and as I was rereading Chris-
topher Miles Ritter’s Seven Things John Wesley Expected Us to Do
for Kids, this really hit home – “We are called to ministry with children
‘gift or no gift.’ As wonderful and needful as spiritual gifts are to the church, the lack of these gifts in not a legiti-
mate excuse for non-participation. To minister to children, as we ought, we are going to need to stretch ourselves.
We need to move past our comfort, over our excuses, outside our perceived gifts, and beyond…”
But, I’m not qualified … You do NOT have to be a Bible scholar to share Jesus with our children; you ONLY
need a heart for Jesus and a desire to share His love!
But I need to attend my Sunday School class to grow in my personal faith … the blessings you receive from
sharing your love for Jesus and the relationships you develop with our children (and their parents) will help fuel
your personal faith journey!
But I don’t want to teach every Sunday … we do ask for a school year commitment (a semester a minimum) be-
cause the same teacher(s) every Sunday helps reassure the children, helps the children develop lasting relation-
ships with Christian mentors, and helps improve the learning environment. You can always ask a friend to “team
teach” with you; this allows you to work around vacations, ball games, etc.
But … if you have questions or concerns about teaching, the commitment, etc., please let me know!
Our new Sunday School year begins on August 12, 2018, and ends in August 2019. Email or call me to volunteer!

MADCAAP FOOD PANTRY STILL NEEDS OUR HELP!
56% of Mississippi's senior citizens don't have enough to eat , while 24% of our state's children go to bed hungry
(According to MSFN). The most vulnerable in our community must face hunger on a daily basis.
MadCAAP's Food Pantry distributes food boxes to 100 client families each week. Without fail, the need far ex-
ceeds what MadCAAP has on hand.
Your donations of food will enable MadCAAP to continue feeding our elders and our children. Putting food on a
family's table demonstrates love for our neighbors.
Won't you bring a can of vegetables or fruits, dried beans, canned meats, or cereals to insure that we can continue
feeding the hungry in our community? A donation table is located in the Fellowship Hall.
PAT BRUCE MISSION OUTREACH
There are 37 students eligible to receive school uniforms, supplies, belts and
backpacks through the Pat Bruce Mission Outreach program. Their mothers
successfully completed classes in basic computer, financial planning and living
skills, i.e., exercise and nutrition.
To make a tax deductible contribution or sponsor a student, call 601-573-2183
or mail to 110 Greenfield Way, Madison, MS 39110.
