Most lawyers have been on “success automatic pilot” since kindergarten. When asked “do you love your job,” they respond, “sure.” However, deeper conversations reveal that the standard law firm definition of success, namely rainmaking, doesn’t fit for many women lawyers. Many women find themselves “basically satisfied” with their ca-reer, but aware something is missing. This workshop will encourage attendees get off the treadmill, think beyond the standard definitions of success, and define it in a more personal way. Join your midcareer peers for a provocative, compelling discussion designed to get participants moving toward their most important goals.

Keynote Address: Professor Barbara Babcock, Judge John Crown Professor of Law, Emerita, Stanford Law School; Author, Woman Lawyer: The Trials of Clara Foltz (Stanford Press, 2011) In this thoughtful presentation, Professor Babcock will continue the ongoing discussion of the professional responsibility of women lawyers for improving the legal profession. She will base her talk on Woman Lawyer: The Trials of Clara Foltz, which tells the story of the first woman admitted to the California Bar. Foltz was famous in her time as a jury lawyer, public intellectual, leader of the women’s movement, inventor of the role of public defender, and legal reformer.

2:15-3:30 p.m.: NEGOTIATING ETHICAL DILEMMAS (“ETHICS FOLLIES”) IN THE LEGAL PROFESSION

Ethics Follies® is the “Seriously Fun Ethics Conference,” raising serious legal and business ethics issues in a memo-rable format of musical parodies and a fully developed story. Originally produced by The South/Central Texas Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel in 2006, the show has grown from an annual ethics conference in San Antonio with sixty judges, attorneys and actors to a touring company that has performed for over 17,000 attor-neys worldwide. The 2012 show, “Cloud 9,” brings to light the many emerging ethics issues of business run using new technology, the internet, and social media.
