What is medial collapse?Medial collapse is an incorrect postural pattern that is commonly found in the lower limb which predisposes the individual to any number of lower limb injuries from the hip to the foot. eg. patello-femoral pain, piriformis syndrome, plantar fasciitis, repetitive ankle sprains, tibialis posterior tendonitis

Firstly, whenever you have an injury it is important to try and establish why it happened in the first place.

Secondly, when a known pattern of biomechanics is likely to predispose one to injuries, efforts should be made to prevent injury by correcting biomechanics.

Correcting a medial collapse pattern:

• May elliminate the need for orthotics

• Will significantly improve performance

• Will prevent the likelihood of injuries

• Will prevent recurrence of injuries

Injury preventionRe-education of the relevant stabilising muscles is the key to prevention.

Any serious athlete should be able to 30 of these whilst maintaining a correct knee posture
