Any amendments that maybe required the document will be revised, in the event of any unforeseen work an addendum will be produced and approved. Procedures in place throughout the life of the contract to con nually review and monitor the safe system of work and con nual communica on with the workforce, subcontractors.

At the induc on phase of each project all personnel must successfully complete the competence test specific to the Projects Method Statement/Risk Assessment, to ensure a thorough under-standing of the project. At planning stage of the project during the prepara on of the CPP an Environ-mental Management Plan and the Waste Management Plan is put in place which is reviewed throughout the project to ensure project objec ves will be met. Before During

ChallengesThe challenges on this project were unique and each one required a thought and a specific plan to overcome. Firstly, the Traffic Management Plan had to be agreed and adhered to. This included regular communica ons with the college to ensure that the plan was working correctly. The secondary issue was the noise, we had to work closely to keep the noise disrup on for the staff and students to a minimum. At the ini al planning stage there was a report from a hor cultural expert instructed by the college; which highlighted that within the campus there were numerous trees that required reloca on to more suitable loca ons on the campus. From these consulta ons we appointed a local approved tree surgeon whom relocated the trees to their new habitat without incident. Finally, and most arduous was the fact that the college remained a open throughout the works and Reddish Demoli on had to work closely with the facili es management to ensure that the staff and students were aware of our works and that we did not disturb the day to day running of the college.

07

BackgroundThe works included the demoli on of the N block and Sports Hall. The works also included the re-loca on of a 8 ton ornamental wheel and movement of various trees. The buildings had to be reduced to slab level with the floor slab being broken out, crushed on site and then back filled. During these works Wigan and Leigh College was s ll a fully func oning campus.

Prepara onBefore the building could be demolished the structure required a scaffold to be erected at the gable end of the Sports Hall and mono flex protec on installed to prevent any flying debris. The traffic Management Plan had to be finalised with the college to prevent any disrup on to the students or staff during works.

After Wheel - after relocation

During

Demoli onThe demoli on work was carried out in a strict sequence. Once the enabling works in the form of scaffolding erec ng phase had been completed. The large 8ton decora ve wheel was moved, this was achieved by li ing the wheel onto a wai ng flat bed lorry and moved to the new loca on. Before the wheel was moved there was a robust li plan designed and discus-sions with various approved Crane Hire Specialists prior to appoin ng the contractor. The demoli on then proceeded using the high reach excavator with hydraulic a achments. The slab was then broken out using hydraulic breaker and crushed on site and the area was then backfilled.

ConclusionThe project was completed within budget on me and most importantly with-out incident. The client was pleased with the mescale and the professionalism and ongoing communica on skills of the team.

Northcliffe HouseBackgroundThe works included the demoli on of the grand art deco building in the City Centre of Manchester as part of the Spinningfield regenera on project. The main challenge of this project was the fact it was in the city centre which is a major shopping hub with thousands of members of public there were also occupied businesses in the adjacent buildings, Including the MEN Building. Deansgate the road is also a major thoroughfare for the commercial areas of Manchester.

Roof height = 42.00 above ground levelPinnacle height = 65.00 above ground level

Prepara onBefore the building could be demolished the structure required a scaffold to be erected and mono flex protec on installed. The traffic management plan also had to be agreed with the local council and adjoining neighbours. The planning for the piling and shu ering of the basements was also an issue that had to be planned prior to commencement of the works. This involved consulta on, design and approval from structural engineers and architects.

ChallengesThe central Manchester loca on of the project meant that trucks to remove spoil had to be carefully planned in order to comply with the traffic manage-ment plan. There were also restric ons on noisy work which meant the management team on site had to restrict noisy opera ons to a stringent me frame.

Demoli onOnce the prepara on phase had been completed the height of the structure was reduced by employing the use of a high reach excavator with a hydraulic shear a achment. Once the height had been reduced a 35t standard excavator was employed to reduce the building further to street level. The scaffolding was reduced as work progressed. Once the building had been demolished the excava ons for the basements commenced the first task was to be completed was to shu er and pile the base-ment wall and then machines were employed to remove the spoil from the basement.

ConclusionTo the delight of the client the project was completed within budget on me and most importantly without incident.

BackgroundThe work involved the demoli on of a large redundant factory and units in Rochdale. The work consisted of the removal of asbestos, mechanical demoli-

on and the demoli on of the large Dunlop tower. The demoli on of the tower provided much interest for the local and na onal news as the tower had previ-ously been a landmark of Rochdale.

Prepara onPrior to work commencing the site was secured with heras fencing and the neighbours were informed of our intended work and programme. Directly next door was a coach business and we made one of our goals to have zero impact on any neighbouring businesses or residents. An approved sub-contractor was appointed for the asbestos removal of the licensed asbestos iden -fied. Permit to Work System was put in place.

Royle Works, Rochdale

13

ChallengesThe largest challenge to the project was the height of the tower in order to demolish the tower safely a specialist telescopic high reach was employed for this phase of the demoli on.

Demoli onThe demoli on consisted of the removal of the asbestos sheet sheets both licensed and non-licensedand then the mechanical demoli on of the industrial units. The high reach machine was then directed towards the tower, which was demolished by the high reach sequen ally using an hydraulic shear a achment. ConclusionThe project was delivered within the 20 week mescale, on budget and no incidents. Our aim of zero impact on residents and neighbouring businesses was also achieved.
