Performing arts, sports and fitness, student clubs and organizations provide RCTC students with more options than you would expect at a two-year college.

RCTC is large enough to be able to provide countless opportunities for students to take

their college experience beyond the traditional classroom. But RCTC is small enough for

students to immediately engage and become actively involved.

Not only do RCTC faculty hold outstanding academic

credentials, they have real life experience in business,

industry and health care. That experience brings subject

matter to life and helps to close the gap between learning

and doing.

The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Board of

Trustees has presented the system’s highest academic

honor, the Excellence in Teaching Award, to a total of eight

faculty. RCTC’s faculty comprise two of the eight faculty

awarded this honor. These faculty have contributed to

students and their success both in and out of the classroom.

RCTC faculty effectively combine theory, practice and

service learning to prepare students for the demands of

their professions.

RCTC’s service learning program includes diverse

community partners including the Salvation Army, Ability

Building Center (ABC), Boys and Girls Club of Rochester,

Channel One and many more. Students can enroll in

service learning courses in a variety of programs. Students

can study the unique crop and agricultural industry in

Hawaii; tour and work in a living ecosystem laboratory

in Costa Rica; learn and interact with the indigenous

Mayan people in Guatemala; and identify plants that local

tribes use for food and medicine in the Amazon. RCTC

students and faculty have also traveled across several

regions of Cambodia to learn the basic tenets and precepts

of Intercultural Commutation. This Cambodia service

learning program has been recognized by the U.S. State

Department for its excellence.

EXPECTAFFORDABILITY.

Over the life of your career, your earning potential

will be dramaticallyhigher if you have a college degree.

Tuition, financial aid and scholarships

Page 19: RCTC Viewbook

Investment in a college education pays off. At RCTC, investing in your future is easier than you expect.

College expenses are kept as low as possible due to multiple

factors. First, the State of Minnesota pays for over half of

the expenses. Then, for more than 80% of RCTC students,

financial aid eligibility makes paying for college even

easier. The RCTC Foundation awards almost $200,000

annually in scholarships. And there are numerous other

sources and programs worth checking into.

Visit www.rctc.edu for resources and to find your tuition

rate (based on your state of residency and your program

of study). Then, as early as possible in the calendar year,

complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid

(FAFSA), the U.S. Department of Education’s online

financial aid application. Even if you don’t think you will

qualify for aid, many scholarships require a completed

FAFSA form.

It is the policy of Rochester Community and Technical College not to discriminate on the basis of race, creed, national or ethnic origin, age, marital status, sex or handicap as required by Title IX of the 1972 Educational Amendments or Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as applied in admissions policies, educational programs, activities and employment practices. The designated Affirmative Action Officer is the Director of Human Resources. The designated coordinator for compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is the Disabilities Director. Lack of English skills should not be a barrier to admission or participation. In order to eliminate barriers we take appropriate measures to assess each student’s ability to participate and benefit through placement testing and counseling. Based on the assessment and counseling, students are then provided with campus services or a referral to community services to be better prepared for successful participation.

It is RCTC’s policy that no person shall be discriminated against in the terms and conditions of employment, personnel practices, and access to or participation in, programs, services, and activities with regard to race, sex, color, creed, religion, age, national origin, disability, marital status, status with regards to public assistance, sexual orientation, or membership or activity in a local commission as defined by law.
