RAUISO Food-Pressure pipe systems for use in the food and beverageindustry sector The fast and safe installation method, the anti-corrosion properties, the supply as a bundled coil, the option for ground installation and the reduced assembly time associated with this show that pipe systems from REHAU combine many advantages in one system.

Neutral taste and cleanability according to EHEDG criteria combined with a diffusion barrier and an insulating foam offer the best conditions for use with sensitive media.

With the RAUISO Food pipe system REHAU combines the advantages of the pipe material PE-Xa with the compression sleeve technique into a solution for the food and drink sector.

2 1 Areas of Application

RAUISO Food is a pre-insulated plastic pipe system for application in the food and drink industry sector. The pipe system has no reduction of the internal diameter in the connecting area and is particularly suitable for installation in the ground. Also installation with pre-tensioning in order to avoid expansion loops due to varying operating temperatures is possible.

Typical applications for the RAUISO Food pipe system are the transport of: - Beer - Wine - Soft drinks - Mineral Water - Viscous food and drink

2 2 Appplication Limits

For pressure and temperature the application limits of the system components are defined at the following points in this document: - Pipe: 3.2 - Compression sleeve joint: 3.3

For statements regarding chemical resistance please note the explanations in Section 3.2.3.

The responsibility for checking the capability of the products from REHAU for the specific application lies with the planner or installer, as only they know the individual use and conditions.

3 1 Pipe – RAUISO Food

RAUISO Food pipes consist of a basic pipe made from cross-linked polyethylene (PE-Xa) to DIN 16892/93 and a diffusion barrier. In addition to this, the pipe is covered with closed-cell insulating foam. RAUISO Food pipes are offered in a pressure class (SDR 11). The term SDR stands for “Standard Dimension Ratio“ and describes the relationship of the external diameter to the wall thickness of the carrier pipe.

SDR = ds

3 2 Pipe Material

DRAUISO Food pipes consist of the RAU-PE-Xa material, a peroxidically cross-linked polyethylene which is produced according to the REHAU process. Here the polyethylene is cross-linked via the addition of peroxide under high pressure and at a high temperature. This process bonds the macromolecules so that they form a network. Typical for high pressure cross-linking is the cross-linkage in the melt above the crystallite melting point. The cross-linking reaction takes place during pipe formation in the extrusion tool. In the case of thick-walled pipes this process also ensures the even cross-linking across the whole wall thickness. High pressure cross-linked pipes can be heated above the re-crystallisation temperature without any loss of quality. This facilitates permanent dimensional changes or the return of the pipe to its original state through heat treatment.

3 2 1 Material Properties

Cross-linking the polyethylene dramatically improves important material properties.

- Corrosion resistance - Good ageing behaviour - Creep resistance - Shape retention - Temperature resistance - Pressure resistance - Toxicologically and physiologically harmless - Excellent notched bar impact value - Good abrasion resistance

3 2 3 Chemical Resistance

RAUISO Food pipes are particularly resistant to chemicals. Safety factors and temperature resistances depend on the media being transported, which may differ in some cases to the values for water and air. If RAUISO Food pipes are used to transport chemicals or in an aggressive atmosphere, please contact your REHAU sales office for information.

7

Page 8: RAUISO® FOOd

General applicable statements regarding chemical resistance cannot be made for the following reasons:1. The media to be transported can be made up of a variety of

differentsubstances, inhibitors, additives, etc., the influence of which on the components of the RAUISO Food industrial pipe system cannot be comprehensively checked.

2. In addition to the media to be transported, the chemical resistance is also dependent on the exact operating conditions (pressure, temperature, environmental conditions).

On request REHAU will provide a resistance list as a guide on the basis of which an estimate of the capability of certain media in combination with the RAUISO Food industrial pipe under depressurised conditions can take place.Alternatively REHAU offers the option, on being sent a safety data sheet for the transported media and the exact application conditions, for an estimate to be carried out by the chemicals specialist department, which facilitates a more exact assessment of the capability. The responsibility for checking the capability of the REHAU products in the specific application lies with the planner or installer, as only they know the individual use and conditions. If approval is required this is to be obtained from the manufacturer of the media, as frequently the exact chemical composition can only be defined by them. The required material information for the system components of the RAUISO Food industrial pipe system can be found in this Technical Information.

Please contact the manufacturer of the media to be transported for support with estimating the chemical resistance.

3 2 4 Long-term hydrostatic strength

The long-term hydrostatic strength of RAUISO Food pipes is dependent on the combination of pressure, temperature and time. The specific combination results in a maximum permitted pressure for certain temperatures and operating years. This Technical Information is determined according to DIN 16892/93 and can only provide a general statement regarding the long-term hydrostatic strength as the maximum temperature and pressure values can fluctuate heavily in the specific application.

The table below applies for the flow media of air and water only.Other media cause a different ageing behaviour in the pipe material andtherefore different long-term hydrostatic strengths.

Reducing the set-up time:By using an additional expansion insert (expansion spike) for the 2nd expansionhead the set-up time is reduced.

Step 1

Cut the pipe at right angles to the required measurement using a ribbed pipe cutter (up to 75 x 6.8) or guillotine.

Do not use a saw or anything similarThe pipe must be cut to length so that it is free of burr and at right angles!

Step 2

Push the compression sleeve onto the pipe.

The internal chamfer of the compression sleeve must show at the end of thepipe, which is compressed.

Step 3

Expand the pipe twice offset by 30° with the 1st step.

Always push in the expansion tool up to the stop and do not tilt. The compression sleeve should not be found in the expansion zone.

Step 4

Expand the pipe twice offset by 30° with the 2nd Step (and 3rd step).

Always push in the expansion tool up to the stop and do not tilt. The insertion time of the fittings into the pipe can be increased by maintaining the expansion pressure for the fully opened expansion head (final position for the expansion process).

11

Page 12: RAUISO® FOOd

Step 5

Insert the fitting and moisten with lubricant all over in the joint area.

Step 6

Attach the compression tool to the joint and push on the compression sleeve up to the fitting collar.

Do not tilt the expansion tool! The tool must be attached across the whole surface and at right angles.

RAUTOOL G1 RAUTOOL G1 125-160

The joint can be subjected to pressure and temperature loads immediately after completion.

Non-compliance with the instructions can lead to damage to the jointing technique, damage to the tool and personal injury.

4 2 Installation

RAUISO Food pipes can be installed freely in buildings, cable trunking or in cable bearer systems. Similarly, installation is possible in the ground, in trunking or protective pipes.

Warning Risk of Accident! When unwinding the bundled coils, it is important to note that pipe ends can spring out when the bindings are undone. As particularly in the case of large diameters considerable forces are released, proceed with the appropriate caution. It is to be ensured that no pressure is applied to the pipes when they are cut to length. If necessary a fixing is to be applied to the two separated pipe parts, otherwise they can spring out.If the bundled coils are stored upright, they must be secured at the side to prevent them falling. The pipe stacking height (for cut lengths) should be a maximum of 1m. Here the pipes are to be secured to prevent them rolling to the side.

4 2 1 Installation in the Ground

RAUISO Food pipes, both as cut lengths and as coils, are suitable for installation in the ground where for large stretches the use of pipe coils is normally more economical. Due to their material properties RAUISO Food pipes are ideal for installation in the ground. In particular trenchless installation techniques or installation without a sand bed represent increased requirements on the pipe material with regard to nicks, cracks and rapid crack growth. RAUISO Food pipes also meet these requirements

In the case of installation in the ground, compression sleeve fittings and compression sleeves are to be protected using a suitable covering (e.g. sealing tape) against moisture, aggressive or corrosive media and materials.

4 2 1 1 Groundworks

During earth and installation works the requirements of the DVGW regulation W400 are strictly to be observed. The dimensions of the pipe trench influence the size and distribution of the soil and traffic loads and therefore the loadbearing capacity of the pipeline. The width of the base of the trench depends on the outer diameter of the pipe and subsequently whether or not additional accessible working space is required to install the pipes (minimum working space to DIN 4124). The base of the trench is to be constructed in such a way that it fulfils the width and depth specifications and the pipeline is in contact with it over its entire length. In rocky and stony ground the base of the trench is to be excavated at least 0.1 m deeper and the excavated material is to be replaced with a stone-free layer. In the case of an unstable or highly saturated trench base, and also where there are different soil layers of varying levels of stability, the pipeline is to be secured through adequate building measures, e.g. using a fine gravel bed. On inclines the bedding must be prevented from being washed away by assembling cross brackets. In some cases, drainage may be needed.

4 2 1 2 Characteristics of Processing Bundled Coils

The use of a pipe unwinder is recommended when installing bundled coils. The bundled coils can then, for example, be positioned horizontally on the

unwinding device and unwound by hand or with a slow-moving vehicle. It is to be ensured that the unwound pipe section does not twist, as otherwise kinks may form.If required the bundled coils will be bound together in layers in the plant. This will make it possible to unwind only the outside layer once the relevant bindings have been undone. The inner layers will remain tightly bound to each other. This will prevent the whole bundle coming undone once the binding has been released. The consequence of the decreased flexibility at low temperatures is that that at installation temperatures at around freezing, the pipes are less easy to unwind or install. In this case temporary storage of the bundled coils immediately before installation in a heated building or heated tent over a period of a few hours is recommended. Alternatively the pipes can be heated by applying warm air or steam of max.80 °C.

4 2 1 3 Minimum bending radii for installation in the ground

When installing RAUISO Food pipes in the ground the following minimum bending radii are to be observed in connection with the implications of the installation temperature:

Installation Temperature Min. Bending Radius PE-Xa

20 °C 10 x d10 °C 15 x d0 °C 25 x d

d: External-Ø Pipe

Tab. 4: Minimum bending radius for installation in the ground

4 2 1 4 Filling the pipe trench

If the temperature of the pipeline is considerably above the temperature of the pipe trench as a consequence of direct sunlight, the pipeline is to be covered slightly before finally filling the pipe trench to ensure that it is not subjected to any pressure during installation. In contrast to DVGW rule W400 the excavated material can be used for the pipe zone and for filling the rest of the pipe trench for pipes made from RAUPE-Xa, if the following conditions are observed: - It must be possible to compact the excavated material well. - The maximum grain size should not exceed 63 mm.

Rubble, recycled building rubble and milled dross can also be used in the pipe zone. Filling the rest of the pipe trench in the area of the roadway is to be carried out in accordance with ZTV A-StB 97 “Additional technical contractual conditions and guidelines for excavations in traffic areas”. Automatic equipment can be used when observing the permitted dumping height.

4 2 2 Installation into an empty pipe

If empty pipes are already in place, the installation of RAUISO Food pipes is also possible here. Depending on the local conditions cut lengths or coils can be installed. Limits are set by the internal diameter of the pipe and the external diameter of the connecting pieces. Bundled coils in the required lengths can be supplied here on request. If temperature changes are expected in the installed pipe, fixed points are to be set on the outlet areas of the RAUISO Food pipe.

4 2 3 Outdoor installation

Outdoor installation is the most popular method of installing pipes in buildings. In addition to installation in the pipe support channel, the pipes can also be installed without a pipe support channel. Here, depending on the temperature, the pipe clamp gaps are to be observed. The use of REHAU pipe clamps is particularly advantageous here which facilitate quick and easy assembly. It is important to install the pipes in such a way that temperature-related linear expansion can take place. Here the deflection leg lengths must be taken into account. The permitted spans are listed in Table 5. - In the case of vertical installation of the pipe the span can be increased by 30 %.

- For air pipelines the spans can be increased by 30 %.

4 2 4 Installation with pre-tensioning

RAUISO Food pipes can also be installed without a deflection leg and without a pipe support channel.Alternatively, assembly with pre-tensioning is also possible. This is generally used if a deflection leg is not possible or desired or a fixed connection of the pipe brackets to the building is problematic (e.g. hanging the pipe from the roof of the building with long threaded rods). In the case of installation with pre-tensioning part of the length of the RAUISO Food pipe is drawn out according to the expected maximum operating pressure and with the inclusion of a safety factor and fixed in this condition using fixed points. The forces which occur during this must be absorbed by the fixed points and dissipated safely into the building structure, e.g. in supports, loadbearing walls and similar. In the case of compression sleeve joints the pulling tool can be removed immediately after the join has been created. The illustrations below show the principle and also a practical example of installation with pre-tensioning.
