A Brief of the Campus Pandit Harihar Dash, a learned Sanskrit Scholar, born 1845 in Sri Ramachandrapur Shasan near Sakhigopal of Puri district, bracing all odds, opened a Sanskrit Class at Puri. Later, the Maharaja of Balarampur, His Highness Sri Digvijay Singh granted the Pandit’s prayer and donated Rs. 5,000/- to the Orissa State government. Subsequently, with that grant, Sanskrit subject was started in the classes at Puri Zilla School and the Pandit had be come the first teacher. He traveled extensively across the length and breadth of India and collected important and rare Sanskrit books, which were preserved in the Sanskrit Library, opened there for this purpose. The Maharaja, further granted a sum of Rs. 1,300/- for annual scholarships to the Sanskrit students
It become a school in 1888, and directly come under the supervision of the committee consisting of the district authorities headed by the Collector.
It transformed into a college named as Puri Sanskrit College on 1-4-1981 thanks to the untiring efforts of Mahamahopadhyaya Sri Sadashiva Mishra, who was also known as Kavya Kantha. In recognition to his services the state government named the college after him in 1951 and thus Sri Sadashiva Sanskrit College come into existence.
Sri Sadashiva Sanskrit College, Puri, with its long association with the study of Sanskrit in its traditional form, hitherto functioning under Orissa state government was taken over on 15th August 1971 by the Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India. Later on it changed into Sri Sadashiva Campus, Puri, sequel to the declaration of the Sansthan as Deemed University on 7th May 2002 by the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India.
Objectives : The Major Objectives of Sri Sadashiva Campus, Puri are :
1- Disseminating Sanskrit learning with a view to preserve the traditional Sastras.
2- Training Students for various examinations. 3- Training Students in computers. 4- Instituting Pedagogy wing and Research and Publication Wing. 5- Acquiring, preserving and cataloguing Sanskrit Manuscripts. 6- Publishing Original Research Works, Critical editions of Sanskrit
Texts, Journals and popular Sanskrit Literature including translation concerning ancient and modern Sastras.
7- Carrying out any other activities conducive to the development of Sanskrit language, literature and culture.
8- Creating awareness among the students regarding environment. 9- Spreading Spoken and Reading skills of Sanskrit Language among
the pupils and people in both formal and non formal way. 10- Inculcating the leadership qualities to the students. 11- Inspiring the students to interact freely.
