Welcome back to another fantastic year at RVCC! All those who sponsored Non-Proprietary Golf candidates were entered in a drawing to win payment of their 2012 dues. Congratulations to Peter Alvarez who was the lucky winner!

The Board of Governors has approved a new category of membership for 25 candidates. Limited Bond Golf (LBG) membership will have golfing privileges, but no voting rights. They will pay Proprietary dues and a payment plan for part of the Initiation fee and the $2,500 limited, refundable, bond. For more specifics call me in the Club office (x201).

The Children’s Easter Egg Hunt will be held on Sunday, April 1, beginning at 12 pm. Peter Cottontail will make a guest appearance! The Easter Sunday Buffet will be served on Sunday, April 8, from 1 pm until 4 pm. Mother’s Day Dinners will be served on Sunday, May 13, from 1 pm until 5 pm.

The first of the Club’s 3 pool/patio picnics will be on Memorial Day, Monday, May 28. Make your reservation now. It’s always a very popular event.

I regret to report the passing of two former members this January. George Furino passed away at his home in Flemington and Charles McCullagh at his home in Naples, FL.

Positive changes on the golf course will improve your overall golfing experience in 2012. Superintendent Scott Hall continues to make improvements based on recent recommendations of Hurdzan/Fry. We look forward to a great golf season.

Remember that your Club is available for personal and professional meetings and parties. We offer a host of entertaining options and a variety of facilities from the very small to the rather large. Call Maria (x208) for date availability and your food and beverage needs.

Please check your e-mail, the flyers in this issue and the Social Events Checklist for information on other upcoming events.

I look forward to a wonderful 2012 season and to seeing you in the Clubhouse and on the golf course. f

CHAÎNE DES RÔTISSEURS

The Garden State Bailliage (chapter) of Chaîne des Rôtisseurs annual induction dinner was held at RVCC in January. The dining theme for the evening was a comparison of wines from the Old World (France and Italy) and the New World (California and New Zealand). Jerry Pascale worked with Executive Chef (and newly-inducted member) Filomena Lombardi to create a six-course menu that enabled both the wine and food to shine. f

BOOK CLUBby Andy Stewart

RARITAN VALLEY COUNTRY CLUB offers a variety of programs to support the membership. In addition to golf, tennis, squash and swimming, we also offer fine dining. Three years ago, a group of men began to meet monthly in the Clubhouse for dinner and to discuss a book selected by the members. Their goal is to strengthen fellowship through good books and good

food. The group meets the first Wednesday of every month except February and

July. If you would be interested in participating, please contact Andy Stewart at astewar3 .as@gmail .com.

Another year has gone by and the 2012 golf season is about to start. Golf rounds in 2011 were down due mostly to the rainy August weather. Hopefully with additional new members, rounds will increase this season.

2012 marks my 31st season at RVCC. Patrick Matthews will be joining us this year as the new Assistant Golf Professional. Patrick is a Bridgewater resident who attended Immaculata High School and graduated with a Masters from Campbell University in North Carolina. He is also a PGA member. Please come by the Pro Shop to meet and welcome him.

The 2012 Tournament Schedule begins on Saturday, April 14, with the Shillelagh Tournament, an individual stroke play event with gross and net prizes. The Opening Day Scramble will be played on Saturday, April 21, with a 9 am shotgun start. Sign up by Friday, April 20, in the Pro Shop. The Lincoln Qualifier, a 2-man Better Ball format, will be played on Saturday, April 28.

The Richard P. Boehmer Armageddon Tournament begins play in May. This is a season-long, two-man Better Ball Match Play event. Come out to try to dethrone the 2010 champions, Brandon Clark and John Tomassetti. Sign-up deadline is April 29.

The Governors’ Trophy Qualifier will be played on Saturday, May 5, or Sunday, May 6. It is played over 18 holes with the 15 low net scores qualifying in addition to the defending Governor’s Trophy champion, Fred Sterritt. Match play follows on May 12, May 13, May 19 and May 20.

The first Twilight Golf of the year will be played on Friday, May 11. It will be a Best Ball of 4 format. With a 5 pm shotgun played over 9 holes, it’s a fun event for all skill levels.

The Mother-Child Tournament, an alternate shot format with both gross and net prizes, will be played on Saturday, May 12. This tournament will have assigned tee times between 11:30 am and 1:30 pm.

The first Mid-Week Member-Guest of the year will be played on Wednesday, May 16. It is a Best of Foursome format with a 1 pm shotgun. Lunch, dinner and prizes are included.

The John Basilone Medal Play Championship will be played over Memorial Day Weekend, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, May 26, 27 and 28. This is individual stroke play gross only in assigned flights. Sign up in the Pro Shop on or before that weekend.

The Time Capsule Mixer will be played on Saturday, June 2. Breakfast will begin at 8 am followed by a 9:30 am shotgun start to the Best Ball of 4 format open to both men and women golfers. Lunch will follow on the Patio.

The Pro Shop pricing plan continues in 2012. All merchandise to members, their families and guests is at 10% above wholesale. Merchandise in the Pro Shop is marked at retail. Just ask for your member price when you come in. There will be lots of new merchandise for both men and women this spring, golf clothing and equipment. Come to the Pro Shop to demo the new gear.

Hope to see everyone soon! f

GOLF NEWSby John Fagan, Golf Professional

EQUITABLE STROKE CONTROL

This is a USGA procedure to keep our handicaps fair. It involves steps by each of us to avoid inflating our handicaps with large scores on some holes. In effect, we are required to post the score we actually made on each hole and then, at the end of the round, adjust the total score on the card based upon hole-by-hole adjustments according to the table:

ADJUST YOUR SCORES WITH EQUITABLE STROKE CONTROL

18-Hole Maximum Number Course Handicap Posted on Any Hole

9 or less Double Bogey 10 through 19 7 20 through 29 8 30 through 39 9 40 or more 10

The equitable stroke control table has been added to the scorecard for your convenience in applying this rule. All members are encouraged to do so as part of their commitment to the integrity of the game.

If you have any questions about this procedure, ask Golf Pro John Fagan or Golf Committee Chair Ken Keneally or Co-Chair John Tomassetti.

It seems very early but the 2012 Patriots Swim Team season is nearly upon us. RVCC would like to welcome back all its veteran swimmers and encourage new members to come out to join in the fun and excitement.

The Swim Team is open to members’ children ages 18 and younger. All levels of expertise are welcome and encouraged. The season begins late May and runs through the month of July. Home and away meets are held on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings. Practices begin on weekday afternoons while school is still in session and move to weekday mornings when school is out. If your child is attending swim lessons or practices elsewhere, such as camp, they should still be encouraged to participate on the Patriots team and swim at the meets.

Parent/grandparent participation is essential to the success of the swim team. Each family will be asked to volunteer time during home and away swim meets in one or more of the following capacities: Starter/Referee, Stroke & Turn Judge, Across the Board Judge, Timer, Scorer, Announcer, Ribbon Writer and Runner. Clinics will be held in the local area to assist in training in these areas. A schedule will be available in mid- to late April.

The entrance fee is $50 per child with a maximum of $100 per family. For your convenience, it will be charged to your Club account.

A registration form will be mailed to you in early April.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation, enthusiasm, encouragement and support! f

It’s never too early to plan for your child’s summer vacation. That is why we are excited to announce Camp Raritan Valley for children ages 4 to 12. EMERGENCY RESPONSE PROCEDURES

Six Raritan Valley Country Club employees are trained in Adult CPR and Emergency Response First Aid (ERT-FA). These employees are: John Fagan, Steve Garrison, Scott Hall, Tim Kuzio, Alexander Mueller and Judy Sterling.

In case of an emergency, one of the following procedures should be followed to ensure a speedy and smooth response by our Emergency Response Team (ERT).

A. If an emergency occurs in or around the Clubhouse, call 911 and notify an employee, who in turn will notify as many team members as possible.

B. If the incident occurs on the golf course, head towards the Clubhouse and notify the first RVCC staff member you see en route. They, in turn, will notify appropriate ERT staff who will then respond to the scene.
