The Annual Fund is off to a tremendous start with a busy fall season of fundraising activity. The passion coming from our parent community was demonstrated through the successful Golf and Tennis Classic, the November phonathon and the full commitment coming from our Board of Trustees in its Annual Fund participation. Combine all of these elements and Ranney School begins the year strong with nearly $290,000 raised to date for the Annual Fund!

Members of the Annual Fund Committee, co-chaired by Alison and Christopher Fitzmaurice, received a flurry of pledges at the fall phonathon which took place only a few weeks after the 16th Annual Ranney Golf & Tennis Classic. The golf and tennis event honored two special Ranney families, Karl and Barbara Brand with their company Brand Aromatics, and Peter and Kristen Gerhard. The event raised more than $25,000, with all funds being directed through the Annual Fund to support Ranney’s athletic and physical education programs, as well as the health and wellness of all Panther scholar-athletes.

With a goal this year of $750,000 by June 30, 2012, the Ranney Annual Fund is off to a great start. All funds raised through the Annual Fund will support the mission and programs that make Ranney School so special.

SEARLE LIBRARY RENOVATIONS A cherished space and focal point for storytelling and knowledge seeking for more than 51 years, the Searle Library has served Ranney School well. However, a renovation which preserves the library’s historic features while transforming the space into a 21st century environment is now needed. The plan calls for modernizing the physical space in a flexible way to accommodate the versatile needs of our young learners while addressing the library’s many uses. The information age beckons for us to integrate media components and research tools within our library curriculum, so that our rich reading collections and technology are balanced, while providing opportunities for interactive learning and hands-on discovery. Setting the stage as the center of intellect and curiosity, the renovations will preserve the library’s presence for generations of learners.

AQUATIC CENTER RENOVATIONSRanney’s Aquatic Center, located in the Gerhard Pavilion for Athletics, recently received renovations as part of an ongoing fundraising campaign to provide novice and competitive swimmers with the highest-quality equipment possible. Replacement of the bulkhead and the installation of six new state-of-the-art swim blocks transformed the swimming pool into an aesthetically pleasing and safer facility that will surely improve the overall experiences of scholar-athletes.

MEDIA CENTER LOCATED IN THE PAULUS LIBRARYCreated through the Ranney Annual Fund, a collaborative media center and work lounge, equipped with state-of-the-art technology, in the Paulus Library gives our students the opportunity to master 21st century skills.

TECHNOLOGY INITIATIVES IN THE LOWER SCHOOL With a restricted gift to Ranney’s technology in i t iat ives , the Lower School can br ing two mobi le learning car ts consist ing of 60 iPads to our Beginners through 5th grade students. This initiative will provide our faculty and students with an interactive, technology-rich, learning experience.

The Gifts That Give Back – Commonly asked questions about the Ranney Annual Fund

What is The Ranney Fund?The Ranney Fund supports the extras that tuition and fees do not. It supports the people and programs that make our school special – talented teachers, small classes, state-of-the-art technology and exceptional offerings in areas from arts to athletics. Our Ranney Fund year begins on July 1st and ends on June 30th.

Do tuition and fees cover the cost of a Ranney School education?No. Tuition and fees do not cover the full cost of attending Ranney School. Gifts to The Ranney Fund by alumni, parents and friends bridge the gap.

What will my gift support?Gifts to The Ranney Fund provide the extras that tuition and fees do not – field trips, athletic equipment, special lecturers and performers, cutting edge technology, extracurricular activities and professional development for teachers.

How do I make a gift?You may make a gift to The Ranney Fund by writing a check or by using your Visa, Master-Card, American Express, or online at www.ranneyschool.org/giveonline. Some donors find that a gift of stock or other appreciated property is a more advantageous way of making a gift. For more information, consult your tax professional.

May I make a pledge?Of course! Some Ranney Fund donors find it helpful to make a pledge and then later pay the entire balance or pay the balance in installments by June 30th. You may arrange credit card installment payments with the Development Office.

My company matches gifts. Will this help Ranney School?Matching gifts make your gifts to The Ranney Fund twice as powerful. Many companies match gifts 1:1, 2:1, 3:1 and even 4:1! How much should I give?Gifts have ranged from $5 to $50,000. Each gift is important and shows commitment to our mission, students and faculty.

Is there a Leadership Giving Society?The Headmaster’s Council, our Leadership Giving Society, was created to honor alumni, parents and friends who support The Ranney Fund with gifts of at least $1,000 each year.

Does the School raise money in other ways?In addition to the capital campaigns, Foundations for Learning Campaign I and II, the Ranney School Parents’ Association (RSPA) generates support from parents though social events that build good will in our community. Our annual golf outing is also a fundraiser.

I’m a volunteer for Ranney School. Do I need to support The Ranney Fund?Many people commit their time and energy to Ranney School, and their support is vital to the growth of our institution. However, financial support of The Ranney Fund is an important priority for all members of the Ranney School family.

Annual Fund Growth As depicted in the bar graph below, the generosity of the Ranney community continues to grow each year. The Annual Fund achieved a record-breaking milestone in fiscal year 2011 pledging over $713,020. This is a significant increase from the year prior which raised approximately $380,000.This philanthropic achievement is due to the dedication and generosity of donors and volunteers throughout the entire school community.

Time, talent and commitment…….The Annual Fund Committee is currently comprised of Ranney School parents.
