La Industria Química continúa consolidándose como uno de los sectores claves de la economía española. Sus más de 3.300 empresas, con una cifra de nego-cios conjunta superior a 65.647 millones de euros, generan hoy el 13,4% del producto industrial bruto, y 670.000 empleos directos, indirectos e inducidos.

La Industria química española, integrada por las actividades químicas y farmaquímicas, constituye un sector esencial para las economías avanzadas y, consecuentemente, para la española. Su actividad genera directa e indirecta-mente el 5,8% del PIB nacional y da empleo al 3,5% de la población activa ocupada.

Tras la crisis, y más allá de la destrucción del empleo, estamos inmersos en una etapa caracterizada por una importante precarización laboral, lo que constituye sin duda uno de los principales problemas de nuestro país. En este contexto, destaca, como contrapunto, la calidad del empleo directo que genera el sector (196.800 asalariados), tanto por la estabilidad (93% de contratos indefinidos), como por el nivel de retribución (38.336 euros por trabajador y año) o por la indispensable inversión en formación (252 euros anuales por empleado).

Simultáneamente, la calidad laboral se traduce en la alta contribución fiscal que aportan las empresas y trabajadores del sector, ya que vía IRPF y cotizaciones se superan contribuciones superiores a los 20.000 euros por empleado y año.

Dos factores continúan siendo claves en el futuro de la industria química: su capacidad exportadora y su liderazgo innovador. En el primer caso, el sector es ya el segundo mayor exportador de la economía (por CNAE) y destina a mercados exteriores el 57,5% de la producción. Por lo que respecta a la innova-ción, la química lidera la inversión y el gasto en I+D+I en España, así como la contratación de personal investigador.

The chemical industry continues its consolidation as one of the key sectors in the Spanish economy. The sector comprises over 3,300 companies with a Turnover of over 65 billion euros and generates 13.4% of the gross industrial product and 670,000 direct, indirect and induced jobs.

The Spanish chemical industry comprises chemical and pharmachemical activities, and is a key sector in advanced economies and hence in the Spanish economy. Its activity directly and indirectly generates 5.8% of the national GDP, and it employs 3.5% of the active occupied population.

Precisely in a period when the crisis has led to high job instability, in addition to destroying employment –which is undoubtedly one of Spain's most serious problems–, it is worth noting the quality of direct employment generated by the sector (93% permanent contracts), the remuneration levels (38,336 euros per worker per year), and the all-important investment in training (252 euros per employee per year).

Furthermore the quality of the employment results in high tax contributions by the companies and workers in the sector, as their income tax and social security payments account for over 20,000 euros per employee per year.

Two factors continue to be crucial for the future of the chemical industry: its export capacity and its innovative leadership. In the first case, the sector is now the economy's second-largest exporter (according to CNAE- National classifica-tion of Economic activities ) and 57.5% of its production goes to foreign markets. In the area of innovation, the chemical sector is the leader in investment and expenditure in R&D&i and also in research staff employment.
