Subject: Connecting to a Controller or Emulator in TriStation 1131 v4.6.x May Corrupt an Application

Affected Products

TriStation™ 1131 Developer's Workbench Software version 4.6.x

Problem Description

Connecting TriStation 1131 v4.6.x to a controller or the Emulator may corrupt the project's Current Version value, resulting in a project that cannot be safely upgraded to TriStation 1131 v4.7.x or later.

Background

Connecting TriStation 1131 v4.6.x to a controller or the Emulator may corrupt the project's Current Version value. A project with a corrupted Current Version value cannot be safely upgraded to subsequent releases of the TriStation 1131 software. Performing a Download Changes operation after upgrading the project from TriStation 1131 v4.6.x to v4 .7.x or later may result in unpredictable control program behavior.

Operational Restrictions and Recommended Actions

The issue described in the Problem Description section only applies to TriStation 1131 v4.6.x . Other versions of the TriStation 1131 software do not exhibit this problem.

To ensure that your project's Current Version value is correct, follow the procedure appropriate to your situation:

• If your project was last opened in TriStation 1131 v4.6.x, you need to upgrade the project to TriStation 1131 4.7.x or later:

1. In TriStation 1131 v4.6.x, open the affected project and save any necessary changes.

2. Perform a successful Download Changes operation.

3. Disconnect the project from the controller.

4 . Do not perform any other actions and close TriStation 1131 v4.6.x immediately.

5. Open and upgrade your project in TriStation 1131 v4.7.x or later.

Your project is now safely upgraded and fully-functional in TriStation 1131 v4.7.x and later. If the project was compromised before the upgrade, the issue is now corrected and the project is no longer compromised.

This procedure will not have any adverse effects if performed on a project that is not com prom ised.

Note: See the TriStation 1131 Developer's Guide for detailed instructions on how to upgrade projects.

• If you have already upgraded the project to TriStation 1131 v4.7.x or later and have already performed a Download Changes operation:

1. Check to see if your project is compromised by performing one of the following procedures:

o Select the Controller Panel. If the Programs and Tagnames lists are empty and the tagnames, variables, and other attributes are crossed out in red, then your project is compromised.

2. If your project is compromised, do not perform a Download Changes operation.

3. Perform a Download All operation.

4. Verify that your program is no longer compromised by reviewing the Controller Panel or the Download History dialog box.

• If you have already upgraded your project to TriStation 1131 v4.7.x or later but have not yet performed a Download Changes operation, determine if your project's Current Version value is correct by following these steps:

1. Expand the Application tree, open the User Documents node, right-click on Programs, and then create a new program.

2. Add a local variable to the program.

3. Save the program.

4. From the Project menu, select Project Description and look at the Current Version and Downloaded Version values.

o If the current minor version value is the downloaded minor version value plus one, your project is safe and unaffected.

Delete the program created in Step 1. You do not need to continue with this procedure.

5. If your project is affected, do one of the following to recover your project:

o Perform a Download All operation.

o Restore the project from a backup project file according to the following procedure.

i. Open the most recent backup project file in TriStation 1131 v4.6 .x. Be sure that all settings within the project are current and correct for the application.

ii. Perform a successful Download Changes operation in TriStation 1131 v4.6.x.

iii. Disconnect the project from the controller.

iv. Do not perform any other actions and close TriStation 1131 v4.6 .x immediately.

v. Open and upgrade your project in TriStation 1131 v4.7.x or later.

vi . Verify that the upgraded project is no longer compromised by checking that the Current Version value displayed in the Project Description dialog box is correct.
