Merici Chapel…Lent is near and we have another chance to draw closer to Jesus and prepare ourselves to celebrate a holy and joyous Easter. Make time for Jesus and visit Him in Merici Chapel. He’s waiting to see and talk with you.
St. Charles Borromeo Church February 23, 2020
Lent 2020 begins this week on Ash Wednesday, February 26. Ashes will be blessed and distributed at all Masses on that day. Ash Wednesday Masses are scheduled for:
7:00am, 10:00am, 4:00pm, and 7:00pm.
Our Annual Parish Lenten Retreat will begin the weekend of February 29/March 1. Father Ryan Mann will preach at our weekend Masses, inviting our participation. The theme will be “I Will Give You a New Heart.” The Retreat presentations will stretch over three evenings: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday: March 1, 2, and 3. All presentations will be in church.
The Parma Catholic Pastors meet every few weeks. We discuss how we might better cooperate, share resources, and serve our parishioners. In the last few months, we began the monthly scheduling and advertising of weekly Anointing Masses. This weekend, you will find our latest offering enclosed in this bulletin: a comprehensive Parma Lenten Directory.
Our most efficient and very talented Parish Secretary, Denise Albertino, assembled all the information and then created this Parma Lenten Directory. There you will find a complete listing of retreats, missions, devotions, days of recollection, reconciliation, and Mass schedules for the Parma/Parma Heights area. Of course, you are welcome at any time to attend or to participate in any offering at any parish.
Why not keep that Directory in your home during Lent 2020 as a handy reference?
Are you an adult (nineteen or older) who has not yet received the Sacrament of Confirmation? St Charles will offer a Confirmation Class for Adults; just attend two one-hour meet-ings on Sundays March 22 and 29, 1:00 till 2:00pm. Our own Brian Pelcin will coordinate the details and you will be confirmed by Bishop Roger Gries on Sunday, April 26, at 2:30pm. To register, call our Parish Office (440-884-3030) or contact : [email protected].
St Charles will offer another year of Fish Fry Dinners, beginning this Friday, February 28, and continuing each Lenten Friday until April 10. Meals will be offered from 4:00pm until 7:00pm each day. You may dine-in or take-out. Baked or fried fish, shrimp, and lots of side dishes, including cabbage and noodles, whole cut green beans, french fries, pierogies, mac ‘n cheese, plus lots of fixin’s. With a children’s menu—and it’s all in the Corrigan Gym! See you Friday for supper!
Plan on having Lenten Monday Dinner at our Soup Nights beginning Monday March 9, served in the Lower Parish Hall from 5:00pm until 6:30pm. Then stay around for our 7:00pm Mass. Each Monday at Mass we will reflect on one of the great Sacraments of our Church.
This is the last weekend of February. Almost two months of 2020 are already “history.” That also means Carnival 2020 is less than five months away (Wednesday July 8 to Sunday July 12, to be exact!) We went shopping last week and the good folks at Axelrod Buick GMC (on Brookpark Road at Pearl Road) could not have been more helpful. They made us a great deal on a 2020 GMC Terrain—so that will be the Grand Prize at our Eighty-eighth Summer Carnival! Mark your calendar!

Prayer Services for the Homeless: Hosted by
Catholic Commission of Cuyahoga County
The Catholic Church teaches that shelter is a basic human right yet many simply don't have a roof over their head or a safe place to live. For some, the line between having a home and being homeless is a thin one that can disappear with the loss of job, a serious illness or the death of a family member. Join us to hear first hand stories of our sisters and brothers in their struggles and pray for those who are without a home. Please bring socks or toiletries for the Bishop Cosgrove Center. 7:00-9:00 pm Wednesday, March 4 at Our Lady of Peace, Shaker Heights
SOCIAL ACTION
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
On Sunday, March 1st, the Cyrenian Ministry is making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for three organizations who serve the homeless and individuals in group home living. We make over 500 sandwiches and deliver them to the organiza-tions. If you would like to help, join us in the gym kitchen on March 1st at 11:00am (after 10:00am Mass).

CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD
Sunday 10:00am Mass
This program invites pre-school age children, 4 to 7, as well as those that have not received Holy Communion yet (essentially grades PreK-2), to experience the Word of God at their level with an age-appropriate Scripture lesson taught during the
Liturgy of the Word. Following the lesson, which takes place in the Church basement, children rejoin their families at Mass.
