Questions for personal reflection based on this Sunday’s Readings…
Show us, Lord,
Your Love But when these signs begin to happen,
stand erect and raise your heads because your redemption is at hand.
Beware that your hearts do not become
drowsy from carousing and drunkenness and the anxieties of daily life, and that day catch you by surprise like a trap. -Luke 21:28,34
Do I see God’s love in my life?
What burdens, pain, people, ideas, situations, or prejudices of my daily life keep me from
seeing His love?
If Christ came to judge the living and the dead at this very hour, would I be strong enough in faith, and pure enough in heart and in actions to stand up with my head raised, or do I need
some work?

HOLY DAY – The IMMACULATE CONCEPTION The doctrine of the Immaculate Conception professes that Mary was conceived without Original Sin by her parents – Saints Ann and Joachim. Though some medieval theologians debated this idea, a feast was first approved in 1476 by Pope Sixtus IV. 400 years later, on December 17, 1830, St. Catherine Laboure claimed to have a vision of Mary as the “Immaculate Conception” – this became the “Miraculous Medal” so familiar to many of us. This renewed interest and discussion on the idea of Mary’s Immaculate Conception. Finally, on December 8, 1854, after consulting with the world’s bishops, Pope Pius IX solemnly decreed this teaching as Dogma. We, as Catholics, believe this as an unchangeable Truth of the Church, and celebrate this feast on December 8.
Saturday, December 8, is a Holy Day of Obligation.
Vigil Mass: Friday, at 4:00 pm, Holy Day Mass will be at 9:00 am
ADVENT
Beginning the Church's liturgical year, Advent (from, "ad-venire" in Latin or "to come to, arrive") is the season encompassing the four Sundays and weekdays leading up to the celebration of the Nativity of Our Lord at Christmas.
The Advent season is a time of preparation that directs our hearts and minds to Christ’s second coming at the end of time and also to the anniversary of the Lord’s birth on Christmas. The final days of Advent, from December 17 to December 24, focus particularly on our preparation for the celebrations of the Nativity of Our Lord.
Advent devotions including the Advent
wreath, daily devotionals, Lessons and Carols, or services based on the Seven O Antiphons remind us of the meaning of the season.
ADVENT REFLECTION BOOKS are available in the church entrance and at the rail near St. Joseph’s altar. The suggested offering to cover the cost of the books is listed. There are four books to choose from, each with a unique way of praying each day of Advent. Small donations are requested to offset the cost of the books.

HOLY HOUR
IN ANTICIPATION OF OUR PARISH FEAST DAY
Mark your calendars for Monday, December 17th at 7:00 when our parish will gather for a Taizé inspired service on the Seven O Antiphons of Advent, verses that focus our attention on the Glory of Christ, who is born to us at Christmas. Most
parishes celebrate their feast day, but few overlap with the great festival of Christmas. Take an hour off from your Christmas rush to reflect on all that we are given through this feast, and through the Savior it honors.
