It seems as though the writers of the New Testament are not attempting to identify and limit the Psalms that prefigure Christ but rather are assuming that the Psalter as a whole has Jesus Christ in view and that this should be the normative way of interpreting the Psalms.

~ Bruce Waltke The phrase its fruit in its season emphasizes both the distinctiveness and the quiet growth of the product; for the tree is no mere channel, piping the water unchanged from one place to another, but a living organism which absorbs it, to produce in due course something new and delightful, proper to its kind and to its time. The promised immunity of the leaf from withering is not independence of the rhythm of the seasons, but freedom from the crippling damage of drought.

He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.”

~ Jeremiah 17:5-8 The power of the Psalms is not that they present us with a neat, theologically consistent package we can assent to (or reject) intellectually. Instead they confront us with the messiness and conflict of the life of faith lived out in the real world of body, mind, and spirit. In so doing they allow God’s Word to penetrate deeply to “dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow,” laying bare our inward contradictions, yet at the same time encouraging us to “approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”

Summertime Worship Service Hours Wheatland’s Worship Service hours have changed to 8:30 and 10:30am for the summer. A fellowship time will occur between services. We will return to our regular 8:00 and 10:45am schedule September 1. Summer Fellowship Hour Help Beginning today, Wheatland will once again have a time of fellowship between our early and late services.
