QuickLITInstallation Instructions

Document IntroductionThis document describes how to install and use QuickLIT Rev. 3.2. QuickLIT is distributed on a single DVD. To install QuickLIT, your computer must have a DVD-ROM reader.

Note: QuickLIT is also available online at www.johnsoncontrols.com. Browse to the Building Efficiency main page, and select the Resources link on the right side of the page and select the Controls Product Literature link.

QuickLIT OverviewInstall QuickLIT to view Johnson Controls® product documentation. QuickLIT allows users to find documents by product category and by free text, code number, and literature number searches. The program uses database technology, which provides sorting capabilities, document date display, installation instructions, revision display, and highlighted search hits in Adobe® .pdf files.

The QuickLIT installation process installs the entire QuickLIT offering on your computer, which includes the QuickLIT application and the entire contents of the Installation DVD, including literature for all Johnson Controls products. No option is available to install only the QuickLIT application and no product literature.

Software RequirementsQuickLIT requires that the following software be installed on your computer:

• Microsoft® Windows® 2000 Professional Operating System (OS) with Service Pack (SP) 4, Microsoft Windows 2000 Server OS with SP4, Microsoft Windows Server 2003 OS with SP1 or higher, Microsoft Windows XP® Professional OS with SP2 or higher, Microsoft Windows Vista™ OS, Windows Server 2008 OS, or Microsoft Windows 7 OS.

• Adobe Reader Version 7.0 or later (see the Installing Adobe Reader Version 7.0 or Later section)

• Microsoft Internet Explorer® Version 6.0 with SP2 or later Web browser

Your computer must have at least 3.0 GB of available disk space to install QuickLIT.

IMPORTANT: If your computer does not meet these software requirements, you must install the required software before installing the QuickLIT software.

Detailed ProceduresThe following procedures allow you to verify or install prerequisite software and settings for installing QuickLIT, and then describe the QuickLIT installation. Your particular system may present you with different screens.

Note: Close all programs on your computer before installing Adobe Reader, Internet Explorer Web browser, or QuickLIT.

Setting up File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft NetworksTo set up file and printer sharing for Microsoft Networks:

1. If you are using Windows 2000 Professional OS or Windows 2000 Server OS, on the Control Panel, double-click Network and Dial-Up Connections.

If you are using Windows XP Professional OS or Windows Server 2003 OS, on the Control Panel, double-click Network Connections.

If you are using Windows Vista OS, Windows Server 2008 OS, or Windows 7 OS, go to Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network Sharing Center > Manage Network Connections.

2. Right-click the connection you are using to communicate with network devices, and select Properties. The Connection Properties dialog box appears (Figure 1).

Note: If this is a local area connection, go to the General tab.

Note: If this is a dial-up, Virtual Private Network (VPN), or incoming connection, go to the Networking tab.

3. Verify Client for Microsoft Networks is selected.

4. Verify File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks is selected. If this option does not appear, proceed to Step a; otherwise, proceed to Step 5.

a. Click Install. The Select Network Component Type dialog box appears.

b. Select Service.

c. Click Add. The Select Network Service dialog box appears.

d. Select File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks.

IMPORTANT: QuickLIT requires either Microsoft SQL Server™ 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE 2000) SP3 software or Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (any edition) or Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (any edition). If your computer has no version of Microsoft SQL Server software, the InstallShield Wizard for QuickLIT launches the installation SQL Server 2005 Express software. QuickLIT requires that your computer has Microsoft .NET Framework version 3.5 with SP1. If your computer does not have .NET Framework installed, QuickLIT Setup installs it for you. Installation of either .NET Framework or SQL Server Express 2005 with Advanced Services may require a computer reboot.


e. Click OK.

f. Verify that File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks is checked.

5. Click OK. The Local Area Connection Properties dialog box closes. Go to the Installing Adobe Reader Version 7.0 or Later section.

Installing Adobe Reader Version 7.0 or LaterIf you do not have Adobe® Reader Version 7.0 or later software on your computer, you can install this software from the QuickLIT DVD. Adobe Reader is located in the folder named acrobat. You can also download and install the latest Adobe Reader directly from the Adobe Web site at http://www.adobe.com.

Note: If you are running any Windows 2000 OS, you must have SP4 installed prior to installing Adobe Reader Version 7.0 or later. If you do not have SP4, install it from the Microsoft Web site at http://www.microsoft.com.

Installing Internet Explorer Version 6.0 or Later Web BrowserIf you do not have Internet Explorer Version 6.0 or later Web browser with SP2 on your computer, install it from the Microsoft Web site at http://www.microsoft.com.

Go to the Installing QuickLIT section.

Installing QuickLITNote: Your computer must have at least 3.0 GB of available disk space to install

QuickLIT.

To install QuickLIT:

1. Verify that the following software is installed on your computer:

a. Windows 2000 Professional OS with SP4, Windows 2000 Server OS with SP4, Windows Server 2003 OS with SP1 or higher, Windows XP Professional OS with SP2 or higher, Windows Vista OS, Windows Server 2008 OS, or Windows 7 OS.

b. Adobe Reader Version 7.0 or later

c. Internet Explorer Version 6.0 with SP2 or later Web browser

Note: If these programs are not installed on your computer, install them before proceeding with the QuickLIT installation.

2. Insert the Installation DVD into your DVD/CD-ROM reader.

3. Navigate to the DVD contents in Windows Explorer and double-click autorun.exe; or choose Run from the Start menu. For Windows Vista or Windows 7, select Start > All Programs > Accessories > Run.

4. Type d:autorun.exe, where d is the drive letter of your DVD ROM drive. The QuickLIT autorun dialog box appears (Figure 2).

IMPORTANT: If you intend to install the Application and Data Server (ADS), Extended Application and Data Server (ADX), or the System Configuration Tool (SCT) on the same computer as QuickLIT, we recommend that you install these products before installing QuickLIT.

IMPORTANT: The installation may take up to 60 minutes to finish. You do not need to uninstall previous revisions of QuickLIT before you install QuickLIT Rev. 3.2. All existing files that have not changed from the previous version remain, and all new or updated files are copied.

5. Select the QuickLIT Setup button to start the installation process.

Installing Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Software

If your computer requires Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express software, the install screen indicates that the Express software is about to be installed (Figure 3). Click Install to proceed with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express software installation. Follow the screens for installing this software. After Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express software installation finishes, the Johnson Controls QuickLIT 3.2 InstallShield Wizard Ready to Install the Program screen returns (Figure 3). Click Install to continue.

Note: If QuickLIT detects that your computer already has SQL Server 2008 Express installed, it does not automatically install SQL Server 2005. QuickLIT can use either version of SQL Server software.

Installing Microsoft .NET Framework Version 3.5 (SP1)

To install Microsoft .NET Framework Version 3.5 (SP1):

1. If your computer needs .NET Framework, a dialog box appears (Figure 4), prompting you to install the program. Click Install.

2. After the installation, you are prompted to restart your computer. Restart your computer.

3. Go to Continuing with QuickLIT Installation.

Installing Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Libraries

To install Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Libraries:

1. If your computer needs Visual C++ 2005 Libraries, a dialog box appears, (Figure 4) prompting you to install the program. Click Install.

2. Go to Continuing with QuickLIT Installation.

Continuing with QuickLIT InstallationTo continue with QuickLIT installation:

1. Click Next when the Johnson Controls QuickLIT 3.2 InstallShield Wizard Welcome screen appears (Figure 5).

The Johnson Controls QuickLIT 3.2 InstallShield Wizard License Agreement screen appears (Figure 6).

2. Read the license agreement, select I accept the terms in the license agreement, and click Next. The choose destination folder screen appears (Figure 7).

3. To accept the default location of c:\Program Files\Johnson Controls\QuickLIT choose Next. Otherwise, click Change... and navigate to or create the destination folder of your choice. We recommend that you accept the default location. The Ready to Install the Program screen appears (Figure 3).

4. Click Install.

5. If the wizard requests that you restart the computer after the auto installation of SQL Express, .NET Framework, or Windows Installer, then QuickLIT is not installed until you restart the computer. After restarting the computer you may need to run setup.exe again to continue.

6. Click Install to start copying QuickLIT files. The copy process may take over 60 minutes to finish.

7. Go to Completing QuickLIT Installation.

Completing QuickLIT InstallationTo complete QuickLIT installation:

1. Wait for the Johnson Controls QuickLIT 3.2 InstallShield Wizard Completed screen to appear (Figure 8).

IMPORTANT: A Disk Operating System (DOS) screen may appear during the installation process. Do not close the screen manually. Allow the installation software to run to ensure that QuickLIT installs properly.

2. Click Finish.

Launching QuickLITTo launch QuickLIT, select Start > Programs > Johnson Controls > QuickLIT >Johnson Controls QuickLIT 3.2 Product Literature, or double-click the Johnson Controls QuickLIT 3.2 icon on the desktop. The Launching Application screen appears, and the QuickLIT interface opens (Figure 10).

Note: If you are running Windows XP with SP2, you may see a Windows Security Alert dialog box (Figure 9). Click Unblock to continue launching QuickLIT.

Using the Navigation Tree and Viewing Documents and Code Numbers

The Navigation Tree appears in the left panel of the QuickLIT interface.

To use the Navigation Tree and view documents and code numbers:

1. Click a plus or minus sign next to a category to expand or collapse its contents.

2. Click on a folder to show its contents. The folder opens in the Document List view by default.

3. Click on a document title to open the document.

IMPORTANT: Do not move the files installed with QuickLIT to another folder on your computer. If you move the files, QuickLIT and Johnson Controls Advanced Installation Management (AIM) Tools do not work properly.

4. Select the Code No. List radio button to show the Johnson Controls code numbers associated with the documentation in that folder.

5. Click on a code number to show a photo and description of the product and links to the associated documents.

Sorting DocumentationQuickLIT has two main types of sorting options for displaying documents in a folder in the Navigation Tree view:

• Document Title, Type, or Revision Date - displays the documents first by document type and then alphabetically by title or by the most recent publication date

Note: Type is the primary filter for all documents. All documents in a folder appear first by document type and then by the selected sorting option.

• Document Type Only - displays only the documents of the selected type

Sorting Documents by Document Title, Type, or Revision DateTo sort documents by Document Title, Type, or Revision Date:

1. Browse to the desired folder and make sure it is in the Document List view. For information on how to do this, see the Using the Navigation Tree and Viewing Documents and Code Numbers section in this document.

2. Click on the Document Title link to display the documents in alphabetical order according to document type and title.

3. Click on the Type link to display the documents according to document type. For example, all product bulletins appear together and all technical bulletins appear together.

4. Click on the Revision Date link to display the documents according to document type and most recent publication date.

Sorting Documents by Document Type

To sort documents by Document Type:

1. Browse to the desired folder and make sure it is in the Document List view. For information on how to do this, see the Using the Navigation Tree and Viewing Documents and Code Numbers section in this document.

2. Select the desired document type from the menu in the right panel of the screen (Figure 11). Only the selected type of documents appear in the folder. For example, if you select Product Bulletins, only the product bulletins in that folder appear.

Searching DocumentationQuickLIT has four methods for finding documentation:

• Free Text Search - search for documents using key words or product names

• Code Number Search - search for documents by product code number

• LIT Number Search - search for documents by literature number

• Navigation Tree - browse the categories in the navigation tree to locate documents; see the Using the Navigation Tree and Viewing Documents and Code Numbers section in this document.

Searching by Free Text

Note: Free text search is the default search option for QuickLIT. For more information on how to use the Free Text Search, click the click here for instructions link under the Free Text Search explanation on the QuickLIT interface.

To search by free text:

1. Under the Search box, select Free Text Search.

2. Type a key word or product name (for example, M-Series).

3. Click Go. A list of documents appears that is ranked according to how closely it matches your search parameters.

Searching by Code Number

To search by code number:

1. Under the Search box, select Code Number Search.

2. Type a partial or complete code number. For example, type NIE or MS-NIE8500-0 to search for an 8500 Series Network Integration Engine (NIE).

3. Click Go. A list of code numbers appears.

4. Click on a code number to show a photo and description of the product and links to the associated documents.

Searching by Literature NumberTo search by LIT number:

1. Under the Search box, select LIT Number Search.

2. Type the Literature Number of the desired document (for example, LIT-1201534).

3. Click Go. The specified document appears in the search results.


Uninstalling QuickLITNote: You can also uninstall QuickLIT from Add/Remove Programs in the

Control Panel.

To uninstall QuickLIT:

1. If you are using Windows XP Professional OS, Windows Server 2003 OS, Windows 2000 Professional OS or Windows 2000 Server OS, go to the Control Panel and double-click Add/Remove Programs. A list of programs installed on your computer appears.

If you are using Windows Vista OS, Windows Server 2008 OS, or Windows 7 OS, go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > Uninstall a Program. A list of programs installed on your computer appears.

2. From the list of programs, double-click QuickLIT 3.2. The Add or Remove Programs screen appears. (Figure 12).

3. Click Yes. Figure 13 and then Figure 14 appear.

4. Click Yes. QuickLIT 3.2 is removed from your computer.

Note: If you click No, the QuickLIT application is removed but all the documents remains on the computer.

IMPORTANT: After uninstalling QuickLIT, do not uninstall MSDE 2000 or Microsoft SQL Server 2005 or Microsoft SQL Server 2008 software if your computer runs the SCT, ADS, or ADX. The SCT, ADS, and ADX use the same MSDE 2000 or SQL Server database software as the QuickLIT application. Uninstalling MSDE or SQL Server software removes files needed to run the SCT, ADS, and ADX.

TroubleshootingTable 1 describes some problems you may encounter when installing QuickLIT. The solutions for such problems are described as well.

Note: At release 3.2 of QuickLIT, an installation log (QuickLitInstallLog.htm) is created to help track any issues that might arise. On Windows XP Professional OS, Windows Server 2003 OS, Windows 2000 Professional OS, or Windows 2000 Server OS, this log file is located at C:\Documents and Settings\<logged in user name>\Application Data\QuickLitInstallLog.htm. On Windows Vista OS, Windows Server 2008 OS, or Windows 7 OS, this log file is located at c:\Users\<logged in user>\AppData\Roaming. You may need administrator rights to access the Application Data folder.

Table 1: QuickLIT TroubleshootingProblem SolutionThe Installation DVD does not automatically run the installation program after inserting the DVD into your computer’s DVD/CD-ROM drive.

Autoplay is not enabled on your computer. Use the Run dialog box to launch the installation program.From the Start menu, select Run and type D:\setup.exe in the Open field, where D: is the letter assigned to the DVD/CD-ROM drive. Click OK. The installation program starts.

A Norton AntiVirus® software malicious script detected dialog box appears during the installation that states:

Malicious script detectedHigh RiskYour computer is halted and needs to do something about this script.

Select the Authorize this script option and click OK.

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 does not install on your computer.

A RunTime Error Appearsc:\Windows\System32\MsiExec.exeR6034An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly. Please contact the application’s support team for information.

Ignore this error. QuickLIT runs properly when this error appears.
