Is CoolSculpting® Safe?

The story of how CoolSculpting was discovered is as interesting as the procedure itself.

Developed by doctors aff iliated with Harvard Medical School, they observed that some kids who ate lots of popsicles had sunken or “dimpled” cheeks.

Going on a hunch, these doctors wondered if that same eff ect would happen in other parts of the body.

So they decided to test the theory. Through trial and error, and lots of scientific research, they found their answer!

Indeed... Freezing fat cells causes “apoptosis” or cell death in places other than the cheeks.

The actual CoolSculpting process is called cryolipolysis and it works by cooling down the fat cells located just below the skin.

Then, in the normal processes of detoxification and elimination, the fat cells are carried out of the body.

The procedure is safe and eff ective and there is no damage to surrounding skin or tissue.

Is CoolSculpting Better Than Other Non-Invasive Treatments?

Yes. Scientific studies consistently show that CoolSculpting results in a 20% to 25% fat reduction, as compared to other non-invasive treatments.

Note that Cryolipolysis — the method used in CoolSculpting — require the least treatments, low pain and minor side eff ects.

Note also that of all five procedures studied, CoolSculpting is just one of two that only require minimum treatments (1-2), as compared to the others which require up to eight sessions. And the procedure called “High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound” results in massive bruising and tenderness for two weeks!

And who wants that?

Your CoolSculpting doctor and technician have a high level of experience in working with the procedure and will determine if you are a good candidate.

Keep in mind that it is most eff ective for people who have fat “bulges” in specific areas of the body — bulges you desperately want to get rid of!

CoolSculpting is designed for individuals who:

are close to their ideal weight but have bulges of unwanted fat are unable to get rid of pockets of fat in spite of dieting and exercising can “pinch” the fat!

Areas approved for Coolsculpting include:

hips abdomen flanks inner and outer thighs under the chin

However, our under the chin preferred treatment is Kybella.

We recommend that you follow a healthy diet and maintain your weight aft er treatment.

How Do I Know CoolSculpting is Right For Me?

Your doctor or Coolsculpting technician will help you determine if the procedure is appropriate for you.

If it isn’t, you should expect other suggestions. For example, “Center for Medical Weight Loss” is an excellent program that gives you one-on-one weekly appointments with a doctor trained in clinical nutrition and weight loss.

You might also be off ered to get a hormone evaluation for Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy. This therapy can be extremely beneficial to anyone suff ering from hormone imbalance. Oft en, just as a result of balancing the hormones, weight loss begins to occur more eff iciently.

If the above are not good options for you, then liposuction may be required to address your areas of concern. We would be glad to refer you to a specialist if that is the case.

What Happens If I Am Not a Candidate for CoolSculpting?

Most aesthetic practices off er free evaluation for Coolsculpting. During this visit, your Coolsculpting technician will decide if the procedure is appropriate for you, and will determine the number of treatments required to meet your goal.

Also during this visit, your medical history will be taken and your questions answered. Further, you oft en have the opportunity to see the Coolsculpting device and learn how it works.

At this time, the total cost for your CoolSculpting procedure will be determined and should be presented to you in writing.

Are the Assessment and Evaluation Free of Charge?

As mentioned earlier, the CoolSculpting procedure is not right for everyone.

However, if you have bulges of fat in the abdomen, the flanks, fat on the outer and/or inner thighs, or under the chin, you are a candidate!

Other body areas may be treated with coolsculpting but these areas are considered, “off -label”. Off -label uses for medications are common. Some body areas may be treated using coolsculpting that are not listed above.

This is another reason you would want to visit with an experienced technician who can discuss all of the CoolSculpting options.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

In some cases, you may need only one Coolsculpting treatment.

However, on average, most people require two treatments in the same area to achieve their desired results.

You and your doctor can determine how many treatments you will require to meet your goal.

The treatment is not painful. There may be a few “annoying” moments in the beginning as the freezing process begins and the area becomes numb.
