Question Two: Within my media magazine product, I have represented my character as being young. He is in his late twenties, and challenges the representation upon his social group, not only due to him being portrayed as very responsible, genuine and mature, but also due to him getting married. Due to him being young, this is intentional in order to bring upon the audience a fresh start/new beginning for the older music; the genre that is considered old, yet classic. The social group would focus upon certain age (unconventional toward the artist), gender (male) and also his ethnicity (Italian origins). If I were to use a location, it would probably be a stage, due to the stage resembling themes of show- business; this is how the singers were presented within the 1950’s- 1960’s. Another location that would have been ideal to partake in photography would have been a European location, ideally Italy. This is due to the character being Italian, hence somewhat going back to his traditional roots. Also, the music genre that has been established is widely recognised in Italy; also through Anglo-Italians, such as British born Italians and American born Italians. The character used is purposely in use in order to challenge stereotypes of young individuals. Stereotypically, young (mainly) men prefer to listen to rock, rap and pop; with my character, he is much more traditional and in some ways honourable due to his appreciation toward the past of classical music. He is very mature, calmer, and also holds a form of respect toward his young name. Individuals that have been included would be fans of classical music, opposed to modern day types of genres that are available. It isn’t necessarily excluding individuals from the piece, but it is merely aiming to suit the desired target audience; this is just like every magazine and piece of media. Upon the themes of classiness, classical music movements, cheekiness, this will include a target audience in which admire and respect the old fashioned style of music. Due to it being recreated and relived by a younger music artist, it will include an established group of passionate fans of the genre, therefore leading into the purchasing of this specialised Swing/Blues/Classic magazine. Within the magazine, I have made the overall look (of the character) as realistic as possible. Now, opposed to special effects being used from left, right and centre, I decided to keep it simple and classy. There’s nothing worse than creating a piece of work that holds huge irrelevance upon the overall intentions of the magazine, but also that doesn’t suit the style. If I were to use special effects, such as ‘colour changing’, and also ‘dispersion pixel effects’, it would have held no suitability at all. It also challenges conventions, not only to a music magazine, but also for this type of music genre, even though there are rarely any Blues/Swing magazines out there. The fact that I kept it realistic gives a natural look, connoting a sense of happiness upon the character and the genre, but also to suggest that nature has supplied the world with a form of incredible talent and genuineness; like the image, he is smooth, warm and genuine. 5 adjectives for my artist: Kind, Genuine, Mature, Caring, Classical: These words help to represent the genre as being a very welcoming and satisfying type of music to participate in, not to mention that the magazine holds the same intentions as well. Mise En Scene: Lighting: bright, in order to natural assign/connote happiness; brightness symbolises a happy mood Costume: smart suit; it suits a hard worker and old fashioned singer; fits in with conventions of the 60’s NVC: the character is happy; mixing with the sunlight; the character suits a happy and classy genre Props: no props are used; like the music, it is pure natural; unlike modern music, not much is required Setting: the setting is through a mixture of background; grey, white and blue; connoting an older look

Macro features would truly depend on the micro features, and in a sense, creates a certain type of style in which is appreciate by the target audience as well as institution. Even though I gave simple but helpful, little explanations about some of the micro features used, they will help in the overall look of the magazine. The Mise En Scene suits an older look/style, which is intentional throughout. It constructs it to fully suit the expectations for this unique, and rare publication upon this music genre. It is unique, but also similar to how the genre of music within the magazine would have been presented, all of those years ago when the music and publications were in its prime. I hope features used were meaningful and hold meaning.

5 adjectives for my artist: Kind, Genuine, Mature, Caring, Classical:

These words help to represent the genre as being a very welcoming and satisfying type of music to participate in, not to mention that the magazine holds the same

intentions as well. Like the character, they are trying to present themselves in such a way to apply a sense of kindness within society, not to mention, bring a positive

attitude to a genre of music that is considered extinct by some.

The institution that will publish this magazine publication would ideally be Bauer Media Group. Due to them publishing over 300 different magazine brands around the world, it would be easier to distribute. Also, due to there being a large range of genres published, this genre will truly suit its intentions, and also stand out as something new too.
