D O G SWe love dogs at Hanbury and welcome them to the less formal areas of the grounds
including the forecourt, stableyard and parkland. If you decide to bring your four legged friend, please keep your dog on a short lead and remember to pick up after it.
A C C E S STo help you get the most out of your visit today, we have two manual wheelchairs, one single seater PMV and a buggy which runs between Visitor Reception and the house. There are accessible toilets at Visitor Reception and in the stableyard, and a ramp available on request to help with access to the tearoom.

we’ll be revealing some surprising connections between Queen Anne and Hanbury. Together we’ll discover the influence the royal highs and lows had on a quiet place like Hanbury Hall.
Sir James Thornhill attracted the notice of Queen Anne receiving commissions from her at Hampton Court, Greenwich and Windsor. Hanbury Hall is home to Thornhill’s only known satirical work depicting
George London designed gardens for Thomas and Mary Vernon at Hanbury Hall, and for Queen Anne at Hampton Court. He was at the forefront of the English Landscape Movement, heavily influenced by John Evelyn. He created meticulously designed gardens across England adapting the latest trends from the continent for aristocratic taste.
“ As I know in my heart to be entirely English, I can very sincerely assure you there is not anything you can expect or desire from me which I shall not be ready to do for the happiness and prosperity of England.”
And yet history has misrepresented Anne, often referring to her as ‘fat, constantly pregnant and lacking political astuteness’. It is therefore a testament to her strength and resilience that her reign would end with such great advancement and achievement.
Queen Anne was immediately popular, with much rejoicing across the country upon her accession to the throne. Her dedication to her position announced in her first speech to parliament:
