Maths Number talk: Write down everything you know about volume and capacity Mathematics: Today you will be practising the things you have already learnt at school about Volume and Capacity. Remember that volume is the amount of space taken up by an object. Capacity is how much a container can hold. Complete the following activities and record your learning on the worksheets at the end of today’s learning. 1.⭐You will need to collect 3-6 different sized containers from around your house. You will also need a bucket or something similar.

● Line the containers up in order of how much water you think they can hold - smallest to largest.

● Now check and see if you were correct by filling and comparing each one. Start with the smallest and fill to the top. Then pour it into the next one. Did it fit? If yes, then you were correct. If not, the second one must hold less and have a smaller capacity.

● Continue to do this with each container until you are sure they are in the correct order.

● How did you go? Take a photo or write down how you worked it out. ● Did any of your containers hold the same amount even though they were shaped

differently? ⭐⭐Question: Why is it that the tallest container doesn’t always have the most capacity? Why is it that the shorter containers sometimes have more capacity than the taller containers? 2.⭐You will need a scoop or measuring cup, your containers and water in the bucket. Your scoop or cup is your unit of measurement.

● Choose one container and fill entirely water, counting the number of scoops it took to fill it. Record the number of scoops.

● How many cups/scoops did it take to fill this container? What is the capacity of this container?

● Repeat this task for different containers and record your results. ● Is there a better scoop you could have used to determine the capacity of this

container? Why?

⭐⭐Question: How does the size of the unit (scoop) affect the number of units needed to fill a container?

Break Other Science

In science this term we are learning about Forces. Changes in the movement and shape of things is caused by Force. Over term 4, we are going to explore and describe how pushes and pulls (force) can make things move and occur in everyday activities around the classroom, home and playground. Important concept to learn: An object can be set in motion by forces that come from direct contact, moving air, magnets or by gravity pulling it down toward the earth. Activity. Main idea - Pushing and Pulling are the ways that people and machines exert force.

● Walk around your home and find 4 things that you push. Record these on the Forces worksheet at the end of today’s learning.

● Now find 4 things that you pull and record these on the worksheet. ● Look at the picture of the machine on the next worksheet and decide whether it is

pushing, pulling or both. Record your thoughts. You also might like to watch this video all about Force. https://youtu.be/JvSClZ3vHOI At the end of today’s learning you can find some other activities to learn about Force if you choose.

End of Day Photos- Don’t forget to upload a photo or video of your learning onto Seesaw so that your teacher can see how you are progressing. Thank- your parent/ carer for helping you with your learning today. Have a rest- so that you will have another great day of learning tomorrow. 😍😍
