President’s Report
2011-12 will go down as the most successful season in our Club‟s 149 year history. Our
Club‟s flagship first grade team‟s performances have been nothing short of amazing. To win 4
competitions in the season is enormous and I think it is unlikely that we‟ll see a team
dominate like this for a very long time. Aaron and his team mates should be extremely proud
of their achievements.
Our season highlight was undoubtedly our adventure and ultimate success in the SCG Cup.
The experience for the Club and our players playing in the competition culminating in a final
played on the hallowed SCG turf will long be remembered in our club‟s proud history.
Congratulations to everyone involved!
Our performances on the field as a club were excellent and can be measured by us finishing
runners up in the club championship standings.
Congratulations to Simon and his team for their 3rd grade victory. Well done also to Jenno
and his team for making the grand final and to Ditts and Corcs for performing so strongly
throughout the year.
Celebrating 4 from 4 (back row) J Dean, D Solway, M Spaseski, I McNamee (Patron), M Curtale, P Solway (Pres), L Hansen, S Mackie
(front row) D Southwell, S Taylor, V Dukoski, M Higgs
(insert – A Ayre capt)
Page 15
Looking at our achievements off the field, there are a number which we can be proud of.
High on the list is the signing of funding agreements that will deliver an excellent facility
between Freebody 1 and 2. Ian McNamee has been instrumental in progress to date and we
look forward to the finished product in September 2012.
A new set of training nets will also be completed in time for next season that will see a safe
and top quality training complex.
Other achievements worthy of a mention are the design of a new playing strip, which I‟m sure
you‟ll agree ranked second to none in the competition. Thanks to Peter Jensen for his
assistance with this process.
New covers were purchased and a tradition of awarding a new baggy blue cap for playing
members of the 1st grade side was established and on show for the first time on the historic
SCG.
All of these achievements and many more are not possible without a strong committee. I‟d
like to thank everyone on the committee for their support and efforts this season. I‟d
especially like to thank our Secretary, Ron Bates and Treasurer, Gordon Elliott for the jobs
they do.
Equally as important is the support we get from our sponsors. Thank you to all of our
sponsors and in particular to our 2 major sponsors, The Kangaroos Football Club and
Sportslink International. The support we have had from Paul Kelly from Sportslink has been
fantastic and it is great to have his company on board for a further 2 years.
There are things we can do to improve as a club moving forward. As a priority, we need to
provide a better Thursday training environment and to this end we are actively looking for a
suitable person who can help achieve this goal.
The 2012-13 season looms as a significant milestone in Our clubs history. It will
commemorate our 150th season as a club and I‟m told puts us in the top 10 oldest clubs in the
country. To mark the occasion we‟ll be planning a large celebration this time next year.
I‟d also like to say a few words on the retirement of Mark Higgs. I love watching this guy
play his cricket. With Neil Bulger, I believe they are the 2 finest cricketers our club has ever
produced. His ability to influence a game off his own bat or with the ball speaks volumes for
the skills Mark possesses. I‟m not exaggerating when I say that if I was an Australian Selector
I would have picked Higgsie in the test team before the raft of other spinners that we tried
after Warney. He‟ll be irreplaceable in our first grade team. I wish Mark all the very best in
retirement and with his coaching career.
I‟ll finish off by giving you the top 5 things I loved about this season.
No.5 – comes from the 3rd grade GF at Stirling. Seeing old blokes like Simon Mann, Lea
Hansen, Graeme Mac and the Frost brothers playing with the young guys in the 3rd grade
grand final – I hope we can continue with this mix of experience and youth throughout our
grades.
No.4 – Seeing the tractors and bulldozers down on Freebody oval this week......the building is
really happening boys.
Page 16
No.3 – The whole SCG cup experience and the number of supporters and life members from
our club to watch the final at the SCG....it was great to see.
No-2 - The desire and passion to win as shown by Higgsie in the GF demonstrated by his
willingness to take a back seat in his match turning partnership with Blake Dean....great stuff.
No.1 – watching a young man with Macedonian heritage dominate at the SCG. Vele
Dukoski‟s man of the match performance in taking 4 wickets and scoring 44no will be
remembered by many for a long time........... I‟m sure Vele won‟t let us forget it!!!
(pictured Vele accepting his player of the match award
from Bruce Whitehouse of Country Cricket NSW)
Finally I‟ll sign off by thanking my lovely wife Julie for her continued support throughout the
summer months.
Congratulations to all involved in a fantastic season. I look forward to the challenges ahead
and hope we see everyone again next year in our 150th season as the Queanbeyan District
Cricket Club.

Secretary’s Report
As I start to write my report for this season, I am beginning to wonder what new I can say
about the season past. We are certainly going through a purple patch.
It has again been a successful season by most standards, but in saying that the club has set
some pretty high standards in recent seasons. It is hard to compare eras but we must be getting
close to being on par with the feats of the club from the 80‟s through to the early 90‟s in terms
of premierships/cups won.
A clean sweep by the lads from First Grade taking out all 4 competitions is a unique
achievement not only for our club, but for the whole ACT competition. It was a feat that will
take some equalling let alone beating. The only way any team can go one better will be to also
secure the A & R Construction Cup (1st Grade Minor Premiers trophy).
Vele Dukoski and Michael Curtale with the
SCG Country Cup, John Gallop Cup,
Konica Cup and the Douglas Cup.
Photo taken on the eve of the 1st grade
final.
However, we cannot sit back and expect this dominance to continue without hard work. We
need to keep one eye out for potential challenge from other clubs, especially Northies. They
are building a very sound platform through their lower grades and again for the second year
running pipped us at the post for the TE Rofe Cup (Club Championship trophy). To counter
this, we need to not only provide a good pathway for our juniors, but to also make ourselves
an attractive option for new players moving to the Canberra region.
During the season, Adam Morehouse provided me with some additional information, which
means that I am able to more accurately identify and therefore update player‟s statistics. I
have nearly completed the task of inputting historical playing data for current club members
into the MyCricket System.
Page 18
Next step in the task will be to input historical data for those club members who are not
current but still have a connection with the club. The final step, if possible, will be to put
historical 1st grade stats into the system. To this end, the club will need to enlist additional
assistance from Adam. Unfortunately there are quite a lot of stats, such as from the lower
grades, Veterans matches and Sunday League have been lost and as a result have been
consigned to the annals of time.
I would like to congratulate the following players for achieving personal milestones this
season. (noting that these now include the additional stats supplied by Adam)

Cricket ACT Chairman Ian McNamee
Page 19
We will have some big shoes to fill in 1st grade next season, especially those of Mark
Anthony Higgs who announced his retirement at the end of last season. Higgsie did mention
that he would consider a comeback in about 13 or 14 years when his son Jack makes his grade
debut. I hope that I am still around to see that.
As at the time of writing, a few other players won‟t be amongst our ranks next season
including Jack Murdoch (joining the military), Lea Hansen (retirement), Blake Dean
(Tuggeranong), Dean Solway (Adelaide), Simon Mackie and Dan Rootes. I would like to
wish them all the very best and to remind them that the door is always open should they wish
to return.

Off Field
Well, it is finally happening. After a number of „false‟ starts the pavilion is finally becoming a
reality. As most people read this report there is a good chance that the pavilion will be just
about finished to the lock up stage. There will be eager anticipation about taking possession
and after nearly 150 years having a place to call home.
A lot of hours have been put into this project and in particular I would like to acknowledge
and thank long time club patron Ian McNamee and Dr Mike Kelly for their efforts in securing
Federal Government funding under the Regional and Local Infrastructure program. It goes
without saying that without the effort of these two this project may have never gotten off the
ground.
Federal Member for Eden-Monaro

Page 20
Also with the financial assistance of Country Cricket NSW and the Queanbeyan City Council
the club will be purchasing two state of the art sightscreens for next season (as shown below).
These sightscreens can be used for limited over as well as for standard cricket. Again big
thanks to Ian McNamee for his work in getting the grant from Country Cricket NSW and to
Tim Overall for getting the council to providing a grant to cover 50% of the cost.
From an administrative point of view, the club continues to move forward (or is that moving
forward?) and this year we were able to introduce a whole new playing strip, featuring new
limited overs shirt and trousers plus a new 2-day shirt. A lot of work went into this and a big
congratulations to all those involved. I overhead a number of comments during the season
from other clubs regarding our limited over strip and all were very positive. In regards to our
coloured strip I think we were the best dressed club through all grades and have set the
standard for limited over attire.
This year we saw some new faces on the Committee. Joining us was Dave Corcoran, Vanessa
Picker and John Izzard and I hope to see them all backing up next season.
I would also like to acknowledge and to thank the work that Andrew Johnston (Queanbeyan
Age) does during the season. Andrew ensures that the club is kept at the forefront of sports
news each week. I would also like to thank Andrew for „volunteering‟ to be our official
photographer at our presentation night. Also helping keep the club in the public domain, I
would also like to thank Pete „Nook‟ Newham for having myself present the Bluebags
Review as part of his weekly sports show on Queanbeyan 96.7 FM. Not to forget Rohan
Ditton who looks after the club‟s Facebook page.
As part of our ongoing sponsorship by Baker, Deane and Nutt, we participate in the Annual
Red Shield Appeal. This year we did exceptionally well collecting over $1500, a club best.
The club would like to thank those involved for a great job –
Aaron & Dave Ayre, Steve Cross, Rohan Ditton, Chris Doyle, Cath Elliott, Jim Martin, the
Frost Family (Michael, Sam and Amy) plus a few friends, the Gillespie Family (Derren,
Ratsny & Guy) and the Solway family (Peter, Julie, Dean, Mark and Abby).
Page 21
Besides those acknowledge on the Supporters and Sponsors page, I would also like to
acknowledge the financial or other support provided by the following business as well:
Frank Wilson Solicitors, Lindbeck's Butchery and Andrew Deane Insurance Services
The Annual Dinner and Awards Presentation Night was again a great night and
congratulations go to all the award recipients. I would like to thank Michael Frost for taking
on the role of Master of Ceremonies. Frostie did a great job and kept things moving all night.
I would also like to acknowledge the efforts of the organising committee of Rohan Ditton,
Stephen Cross and Michael Frost. Thanks to all involved.
On behalf of the club, I would like to acknowledge the addition of a couple of future
“Bluebaggers” to the fold and congratulate their parents.
Higgsy & Marie – Jack
Jono & Kim – Nixon
Also, we had a couple of Bluebaggers tie the knot during the season as well. Dean Southwell
married long time girlfriend Carly and Matt Harding married his long time partner and fellow
club member Peta.
I would like to acknowledge the ongoing support that is provided to the club from the staff of
Queanbeyan City Council. They are always ready to provide assistance whenever it was
required.
The Future
We will have a fair bit of work to be done over the next few seasons. All wicket squares are in
need of a major overhaul and this will require a considerable outlay from the club as well as
the involvement of a few club members willing to put their hand up to help out.
A 150th Celebration Committee has been formed and is in the process of organising a number
of events for 2013. If you want to get involved, please contact me at
[email protected] or 0416 051 903 ASAP. In addition to this we will need to
track down all of our memorabilia so that it can take its rightful place in our clubroom.
It seems that all our stars are aligning, a great season just gone, our new pavilion and we are
about to celebrate not only the club‟s 150th Anniversary, but also the 175th Anniversary of
the founding of Queanbeyan. Oh yeah I guess Canberra‟s 100th fits in there somewhere. It
looks to be a very busy season ahead indeed.

Treasurer’s Report
From a financial perspective the Club again performed strongly in 2011-12. This included
continued strong support from the Roos Club and a new sponsorship agreement with
“Sportslink International” were significant items.
The Club also benefitted from outstanding on-field performances by the 1st Grade side in
securing both the Konica Cup and the prestigious SCG Cup.
On the expenditure side of the ledger the club embarked on a major clothing program for 11-
12 which included new one day strips and cream playing shirt for the grade players.
The Club‟s balance sheet shows a very health position, however this should be tempered
given the strong likelihood of the Club needing to invest funds into the establishment of the
new Club House during the 2012-13 financial year.

This season started with a few unknowns with JD and Southy not knowing how much they
would play, the loss of a few players and a new captain we weren't quite sure what to expect
from the year. As pre season went on, we had gained a few players and all of a sudden the
losses we had endured were more than covered by the depth that we gained, JD also joined
the party and Southy returned after his what felt like 3 month long honeymoon just in time for
a greened up SCG pitch.
We had a reasonably slow start to the season, mainly due to the fact we were missing key
players although our arrogance also played some part in the losses. As each competition went
on we started playing better, more consistent cricket and started getting rewarded with big
wins. We continued to get better toward the business end of the season, and this was shown
by taking out all four premierships, something that has never been done before and may well
never be done again.
We have all heard the outstanding performances from throughout the season but there are also
some people to thank that made my job as captain a lot easier. Firstly, Pete Solway and the
selection panel who do all the hard work to make sure teams are filled and make last minute
calls to make sure we have a full team. David and Ingrid Ayre who provided lunches for us all
year and all the supporters who turned up throughout the year and in particular to the
supporters who made the trip to the SCG to cheer us on in a day that will be remembered for a
very long time to come.
Page 37
To wrap up, I would just like say that I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as captain
throughout the year and I can't thank my team enough as they were the ones who made it so
easy to make the transition. I hope everyone enjoys the off season and I will see you next
season.

Second Grade Report
We started the 2011/12 season on fire. We won approximately 10 of our first 11 games
through the first part of the season. From that point on however, it didn‟t go so well. Second
Grade in 2010/11 was a young side, and in 2011/12 it became even younger. Lakshmn
Shivakkumar and Luke Seal were our most promising young players at the start of the season.
We lost both by Christmas and our performances suffered as a result.
Entering the season I believed that we were one quality top order batsman (Pete Coleborne or
Raglan Maddox) short of having a really strong team. I was hopeful that if the team got off to
a strong start one of these batsmen would resume playing, however it wasn‟t to be the case.
So when Luke (lost interest) and Lakshmn (back injury) dropped out of our team, it was
always going to be a struggle to maintain our high level of play.
We reached the T20 semi finals as the highest ranked team in our pool. The semi final was at
the same time as the U/17 National Championships. As a result, we were missing Lakshmn,
Luke, Mark Solway and Guy Gillespie during this match. We batted first and struggled to
make a competitive target. After posting only 8 for 117, we needed to field and bowl well.
This wasn‟t to be the case. We dropped several catches and failed to bowl with the required
accuracy.
The one day competition went very much like the T20 tournament. We hosted Eastlake in the
semi final and were outplayed by the eventual champions. Eastlake fielded a much more
experienced team than us and played very well. If not for a Peter Solway cameo in the middle
over‟s, this would have been a severe beating.
We started the two day comp well. But after a washout and some poor play we were
struggling to make the finals. Entering the final round in 5th
position, a win would have seen
us finish 3rd
and a loss would have left us in 6th
position. We went down in a close contest to
the undefeated North‟s. Again our batsmen failed to score enough runs batting first.
I‟d like to thank club legends Peter Solway, Michael Frost, Lea Hansen and Simon Mann for
playing Second Grade at various stages throughout the season and imparting their knowledge
onto our players.
This season was successful in terms of developing our young players. Most weekends the
following young blokes made up the core of our Second Grade side: Michael Medved, Phil
Moore, Josh Gregory, Jack Murdoch, Jarrod Ninness, Guy Gillespie, Mark Solway, Lakshmn
Shivakkumar and Jeremy McDonald.
Supporting these young blokes were the veterans Balinder Singh-Khillan, Matt Monaghan
and Darren Southwell. For our Club to be successful moving forward, these young players
must put in the hard work necessary to develop into First Grade players.
My highlights for the season included:
Phil Moore‟s breakout innings of 79, opening the batting on a green Stirling wicket.
The continued development of Josh Gregory and Phil Moore.
Jarrod „Dirk‟ Ninness being selected in First Grade for the Two Day Semi Final.
Seeing Darren Southwell score a career high of 30 at Chisholm 2.

Third Grade Report
The 2011-2012 ACTCA 3rd grade season was a very successful and enjoyable year of cricket.
We mixed a few seasoned veterans with some young up and coming players and the balance
worked very well during the course of the season. The culmination was an empathic victory in
the 2 day premiership grand final at Stirling Oval against a very formidable opponent in North
Canberra.
The captaincy was shared between Simon Mann and myself with Simon taking on the 2 day
role and me looking after the 1 day and T20 parts of the draw. We were also fortunate to have
Peter Solway, Lea Hansen, Stephen Frost, John Bull and Graeme McLennan playing in the
3rds at various times during the course of the year. This worked very well with the younger
players benefitting from the experience of these senior players were able to offer both on and
off the field.
The 3rds made the semis of the T20 but unfortunately played their worst game of the year to
lose to ANU and the 1 day season was ruined by the wet weather making it impossible to
make the semi-finals. Despite these setbacks in the shorter form of the game, the team played
some excellent cricket towards the end of the year and qualified 3rd place for the finals. The
semi-final (against ANU) and grand final (against North's) both resulted in a comprehensive
victory to the lads.

I would also like to congratulate Simon on emulating his father‟s efforts of being the captain
of a 3rd Grade premiership side. This was a nice touch for me personally as I was a part of the
team that Greg led back in 1982-83 and was also part of this year‟s successful team.

The effort from the younger players was very pleasing. In Alex Page, Jeremy Macdonald,
Alex Bazzana, Jordan Hedington, Nathan Bull, Tom Izzard, Luke Dawes and Sam
Hawksworth there is a real sense that these lads have the ability to push for 1st grade spots in
the coming years. Of course there is a lot of hard work to be done prior to this happening;
however, the club is confident that with further mentoring from the senior players we will see
these lads donning the 1st Grade Baggy Blue.
We were also very lucky to have a number of experienced grade cricketers (Peter Deeks,
Rohan Ditton, Adrian Brunker and John Kidd) in the mix and their contributions and support
contributed to our successful year. We played some great cricket and enjoyed the year
thoroughly.
Finally a huge thank you to Steve Cross for his role as Chairman of Selectors, to Greg Dawes
for another very good year with the wickets and to all the Committee for their hard work
during the 2011-2012 cricket season.

Fourth Grade Report
2011/12 proved to be a disappointing season for 4th
grade, failing to make the top four in the
one day comp, and bowing out in the two day Semi Final – though I was proud of the way we
fought hard in a weather reduced match. Scraping into 4th
spot was a fair reflection of our
season in that we were probably only the 4th
best team in the comp, which was a harsh reality
to accept after winning 2 of the past 3 Grand Finals. For some reason we couldn‟t find form
as a unit, a few standout individual performances were not backed up by consistent team
performance and we failed to dominate like past seasons.
Once again I enjoyed captaining the side and as always would like to express thanks to the
older blokes for their help throughout the season, in particular Stephen Cross, Colin Crouch,
Peter Newham & Matt Harding. We always play positive and aggressive cricket, which at
times proved our downfall however I believe it is vital for the younger guys‟ development
into senior cricketers.
I‟d like to thank a few players for their efforts this year. Adrian Brunker was called upon from
5th
grade and did a tremendous job as an all rounder. Chris Doyle was brought up from 5th
grade for the semi final for the second year in a row, another big thanks to you mate. Also
thanks to the regulars – Crossy, Crouchy, Bunyip, Pom, Nooky, Matt, Fossil Junior & anyone
else who got a start, I‟m sure you‟ll all agree even though it wasn‟t our best season we still
had a good time as usual. And it was also great to see more juniors coming through, with Jay
Ludwig, Jordan Hedington and Terry Mystakas showing improvement throughout the season.
To, Peter Solway, Gordon Elliott and Ronnie Bates and the rest of the committee – thank you
for your efforts in ensuring the club survived off the field. Also, thanks to all those volunteers
who assisted during the season. Without you guys we would not have a game each week.
A special thanks to Peta Harding for the diligence in being our scorer. Peta does a great job
and it means it makes Ron‟s job that much easier and I don‟t have him chasing me up for
missing details.

A reasonably successful season making it to the Grand Final trying to defend our title from
last year, however, we couldn‟t produce the necessary goods on the day to take out the flag.
Nevertheless, a very good effort given a few weeks before the end of the season we looked
like missing out on a finals campaign altogether.
Well done to all the players who played 5th
Grade this season, I thank you all for your efforts
and it was great to see some younger players in Wilson Morshead, Lewis McLennan and
Jacob Gillespie playing for us during the year, hopefully a trend that will continue into the
future.
A big thank you to Troy Cameron who played 3 games in the second half of the season whilst
living in Melbourne, a huge effort and one the boys appreciated very much.
Looking forward to next season as it will be a big year for the Queanbeyan Cricket Club.

Women’s Team Reports
The Women‟s team performances during the year were very inconsistent and as a result both
teams did not fair to well. One of the major reasons is the unavailability of players (either
through injury or personal reasons). This was particularly relevant with our Sydney and
Interstate based players.
Overall, the ladies enjoyed their cricket and with a bit of application and dedication, there are
a number who will one day move on to the highest level.
