The Joshua Dunn Quartet is a musical

project by Tasmanian/NYC-based

guitarist Joshua Dunn in collaboration

with long time mentor and musical peer,

saxophonist Danny Healy. Their music

combines a deep grounding in early

traditional jazz with a highly original and

contemporary approach to the style.

In addition to guitar and reeds, the

Very sad to have to say goodbye to Helen Jacobson and Don Veness who both die suddenly this month.

They were both long serving members of our club and so loved their music.

Our thoughts are with their friends and family.

Devonport Jazz is pleased to welcome back Australian Jazz Hall of Fame induc-tee Ted Vining and The Hobart Jazz Quartet, who will be celebra ng the music of John Lewis and the Modern Jazz Quartet. There will also be tributes to Thomas “Fats” Waller and rag me great Sco Joplin across the weekend.

Other sensa onal Hobart bands include the Jamie Pregnell Quartet, Uncle Gus and the Rimshots, The Rugcu ers Jass Band, Anita Cairns and Billy Whi on, and Django’s Tiger. Northern bands will also feature, with Ross Challender Big Band and The Fats Hollers at key events.

The popular Blues component returns to Devonport Jazz and includes performances from Billy Whi on and the Men of Steel, Chester Draws and the Lowboys with their old school toe tappin’, chicken pickin’ jazzed up blues and local favourite Jacob Boote and The Ornery Horns.

Devonport Jazz will also feature several pop-up performances, and community events such as Street Eats and the Providore Place Sunday Market, where food and ar san products will be the main course with a side of jazz.

For the first me, Devonport Jazz is also offering a Fes val Pass with 15 events on offer for one low price of $89. With over $60 in savings, it’s great value!

You can catch some of Australia’s best Jazz musicians, as Tasmania’s premiere Jazz Fes val injects a serious case of Jazz fever into North West Tasmania.

DEVONPORT JAZZ FESTIVAL

Skety Tutti

Devonport Jazz has just released the program for the 2018 fes val. To be held from 26-29 July, Devonport Jazz will be offering the fun and quirky, as well as music for jazz aficionados.

The fes val features award-winning a cappella sextet Skety, from the Czech Republic. Described as the future of a cappella groups, Skety are a fresh and contemporary spin on tradi onal jazz vocals. Aside from their headline concert, audiences can get up close with Skety during a vocal workshop in polyphony, beatbox and live looping.

Sydney crooner Gregg Arthur will treat audiences to his smooth vocal style, which is reminiscent of Frank Sinatra. He will be accompanied by fes val favourite Peter Locke and his Trio at the Pure Jazz Sessions, and at a sumptuous three-course meal at the La Pomme Brasserie.

Other Highlights include quirky Melbourne duo Lily and King, Great American Songbook songstress Lillian Albazi and the ul mate 1930’s party band, The Furbelows (PICTURED BELOW)
