QTVWhat is QTV?Health information on-demand

TV provides bespoke health information videos tailored to patient waiting areas and the locations it is displayed. The programmes are

designed to inform and educate and the nature of the service enables the videos to be specifically targeted at the public need, encompassing health, language and culture.

“Programmes consist of a mixture of live video, audio,

voice over and graphics.”

The videos are produced regularly and are based on a 60 minute magazine format. Each tape consists of several short health information programmes linked by a series of bumpers, giving service information.

QTV is a nonprofit making service and any programmes produced on behalf of health partners are charged at minimal cost. It is estimated that we achieve approximately two million views per year.

QTV is an effective way of signposting your service to the people of Rotherham.

Commissioning QTVThe process

Health professionals identify a need for a specific programme and produce bullet point information detailing the facts that they wish to broadcast to the public.

Consultation with our professional team results in the production of a shooting script, voice over script and storyboards. At this stage we identify the resources required for the shoot and any cost implications are thoroughly discussed and agreed.

Once agreed, the shoot is arranged. On the day, our crew will work with you and any other staff who are to appear in the programme, filming with the latest HD-digital TV technology.

When production is completed your programme is edited in-house on our digital nonlinear edit system. After the edit is completed and approved it is mastered ready for distribution.

QTV is distributed via various media pathways. Primarily programmes are transmitted via a local network connection, so content can be uploaded and renewed instantly to screens, we also provide DVD content to screens not located on the network. Programmes are also broadcast on the web at www.rotherham.nhs.uk/qtv where the most recent programmes are displayed on the front page of the NHS Rotherham web site. We also have channels on Youtube.com and Vimeo.com where you can view our video archive, just search for Rotherham QTV.

Helping you preparePreproduction

As we all know, any building needs strong foundations. Likewise, we believe that the preproduction stage of a project is one of the most important areas to focus on when creating a video or multimedia production.

“Need advice on technical matters? No problem. Just call us, we will

always discuss and embrace your ideas”

At our first meeting we can work towards agreeing a budget, writing a script, drawing a storyboard and creating a shot list.

This process needn’t be a long one, and indeed in the past we have met extremely tight deadlines! Many of our clients are new to commissioning video and multimedia productions. We know that this can seem a daunting task but we are here to guide you through the whole process helping you along from start to finish.

Our 5 step planThe production process

1. Make a note of all the information that is needed in the video. Decide ‘who is your target audience’ and which points are most important to get across. Grouping points into sections can help the viewer digest and understand more information, and helps you to think things through.

Fill in the ‘Video production document’ found on our web site (www.rotherham.nhs.uk/cms), this is a key document you need to

complete if you are thinking of making a video with us. It will help you understand the needs of your production.

2. Talk to us and we can advise the best way to transfer that information onto the screen. We will use the information you have formulated in Step 1 to form the backbone of our brief.

3. Once a full script has been developed, give the script to all the relevant departments or specialist staff, to check for any errors or any extra information that should be included, excluded or modified. Nobody knows your service better than you, so your input is invaluable!

4. Help us to plan the shooting schedule, so you get the most out of your allocated filming time. If you can be there on the day, you can add your creative input all the way through the process.

5. Visit our studio and see all the elements coming together in a visually stimulating way. You will be supplied a rough edit of your programme, meaning any errors can be corrected before the final programme is produced.
