“Lift the Quilts out of Your Stash.” An informative discussion for

quilt makers of all skill levels and experience. You will be

looking at your stash in a whole new way and actually start using

your fabric rather than just admiring it! Enjoy the confidence

you'll gain exploring traditional and untraditional quilt methods by

adding your own twist! Tips will inspire excitement, creating

unexpected surprises ready to be quilted into your next

project! Challenge yourself to take small or bold steps as you

learn to work with your fabric and create your own methods and

styles. A trunk show with lots of and lots of quilts will illustrate

many different styles of quilts as well as subjects discussed.

Sunday Class March 20, 2016 – Shattered - $45

Finished Size: 63" x 84"

Each block for Shattered begins with a

6-part center block, which is then

finished with a pieced frame work. The

blocks are cut as directed in class with

several variations as we go. You'll learn

several options as you sew such as how

to splice in additional splits, totally

modify the block and/or change the number of actual pieces in

each block. Sew exactly by the book or come ready to change it

up making it your own design as well as learn awesome

techniques along the way.

LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE: Beginner to Advanced

FABRIC TIP: Choose a focal color for the middle of each block

then a second color for the frame. Subtle batiks, tone on tone or,

other prints that appear as a solid from a distance work well for

this quilt. Once you have the center and frame picked out,

choose a contrasting print to separate all the pieces.

Reception Friday evening, March 18, 2016 6:30 pm

At the Hampton Inn and Suites meet and greet Karla Alexander.

She will be signing books and selling her notions and rulers.

Swan Lake Quilters, Sumter. At our Januarymeeting, this year’ Challenge Quilt for the SwanLake Quilt Guild in Sumter was announced as a“Monochromatic Quilt.” Using paint chips fromLowes, quilters drew their colors out of a bag andgot their first look at their challenge. (If they really“hated” the color they drew, they had one “do-over”to try for a better color.) Between now andNovember, the quilter will create a quilt of their ownchoosing, at least 36”x36”, using just that color butwith the opportunity to add one neutral (black, white, gray…) OR one multi-color. But only oneOR the other, not both. As an added incentive, there are monetary prizes - $75 for 1st place, $50 for2nd and $25 for 3rd. Looks like fun and that therewill be lots of interesting quilts turned in inNovember.
