QBR—Virtual Club The Barbarian Swim Team caters for members who live too far from an exisng club, cannot find enough people to form a club or simply prefer not to become involved in club acvies and who either train alone or with a range of swimmers. They live all over Queensland. The Barbarian members generally don’t know each other, but despite that, they have achieved great results at the state championships and interclub meets. Dawn Thompson, recently joined the Barbarian Club. She approached the club members about purchasing a club shirt and cap, which many have done. The decision to create a team spirit, will hopefully pay off and may encourage others not keen on joining a physical club, to at least join the Barbarians. She managed to receive sponsorship from a fellow member, Kate Tento, whose work company bck Lawyers, kindly agreed to sponsor the club. Reflecons of a QBR member, Leanne Burton: I have been a Barbarian for tw years with Karina being a second claim member for the Club. Karina and I have taken quite a few road trips, aending swim meets in Geelong and Canberra and are looking forward to trips to New Zealand and Melbourne in 2016 (there may be other road trips too!). Karina currently holds four State Records in Breaststroke and Buerfly. She prefers (is a mad distance swimmer) the longer distances having competed in three 400m events and one 200 event in the same day at the Pan Pacs in 2014; breaking two Pan Pac Records in the process! She has also recently completed the Endurance 1000 program and is fast approaching the 4 million metre mark thanks to all her hard training at Newmarket, Albany Creek and Nudgee. I’m currently on a comeback aſter sing out the majority of 2015 recovering from major surgery. I was able to keep in touch with swimming being part of the “Team Horton” mekeeping group for the Endurance 1000! Now that I’m back in the swim of things I’m busy training at Newmarket and Nudgee. I'm aiming to get some more records and hopefully some more PBs; parcularly in my favourite event - 200 backstroke! I currently hold 4 State Records and 1 Pan Pac record (all in Backstroke!). As you can see we’re loving our new Barbarians’ t-shirts and are keen for them to travel widely in the future! The Barbarian Swim Team caters for members who live too far from an existing club, cannot find enough people to form a club or simply prefer not to become involved in club activities and who either train alone or with a range of swimmers. They live all over Queensland. The Barbarian members generally don’t know each other, but despite that, they have achieved great results at the state championships and interclub meets. The decision to create a team spirit, will hopefully pay off and may encourage others not keen on joining a physical club, to at least join the Barbarians. Reflections of a QBR member, Leanne Burton: I have been a Barbarian for tw years with Karina being a second claim member for the Club. Karina and I have taken quite a few road trips, attending swim meets in Geelong and Canberra and are looking forward to trips to New Zealand and Melbourne in 2016 (there may be other road trips too!). Karina currently holds four State Records in Breaststroke and Butterfly. I’m currently on a comeback after sitting out the majority of 2015 recovering from major surgery. I was able to keep in touch with swimming being part of the “Team Horton” timekeeping group for the Endurance 1000! Now that I’m back in the swim of things I’m busy training at Newmarket and Nudgee. I'm aiming to get some more records and hopefully some more PBs; particularly in my favourite event - 200 backstroke! I currently hold 4 State Records and 1 Pan Pac record (all in Backstroke!).
