Qanoon player Furat Qaddouri and his group present
“ Baghdady Maqams”Baghdadi Maqam’s project; introducing a new perspective of Iraqi maqam.The Iraqi Maqam is considered to be one of the most important and ancient musical genres in Iraqi music. The group will be presenting the Iraqi Maqam with old traditional Iraqi songs (Basta), and will also perform music composed by the artist Furat Qaddouri himself.The project ‘ Baghdadi Maqams’ is considered as one of the unique musical projects that deal with the Iraqi musical heritage (Maqam) in a modern way to be appropriate to both current and classical generations. Due to the current circumstances that make the understanding of rich musical heritage is unclear with the lack of the appreciation of this culture, The Baghdadi Maqams has determined to show this type of Iraqi music to all ages in a fashionable manner with preservation of the original spirit.The verities in the classical Iraqi musical instruments, as Qanoun, Oud, Djoza and Nay, is an essential factor in our project, which is always accom-panied by the Maqam readers, or singers. Furthermore, the establishment of the modern school of Maqam by the late Mohamad al Qubanchi, who licensed the use of other instruments like Qanoun and Nay in the Maqam, after years of being exclusive to the DJoza and Santoor. For this reason, we have found this musical enrichment variety of our heritage music is the mainstay of our project, Baghdadi Maqam.The musicians; Raghid William on the Nay, Bassam Hawar on the Sumerian Djoza and firat fadhel hussein on percussion will be performing with Furat Qaddouri, including the vocalist Rita William.
