The Amway Business is key at the first stage to bring in some Commission – 20% on all Sales and this will work with the Tuition Business to provide a small income in the start up phase.

The micro Business is to be revived (see the Appendices for its previous format) with four main ‘ Strands’ and with the main strand as

as an AIM Higher Lifestyle Process in the same way as previously. That is contacting potentially interested people – using networking (Friends, Relatives, Organisations, Groups, Social Networks) to find individuals who would a) buy the products and b) start a business of their own.

The Second Strand is Tutoring – in Term Time mainly and the aim is for two sessions per week (contracted monthly or across the Academic Year) in Business Studies or any GCSE or ALevel subject other than Science or Modern Foreign Languages. Also BTEcs and Tech A Levels – where assessment is still used.

The viewpoint is still Aim Higher and hopes to assist students who are the first in their families to go to University need to be aware of:-

Organising the Study Process – linking Text Book Theory to Analysis and Evaluation.Problem Solving and other Key Skills.The ongoing process of learning

Future Skills - How they may be facing working in a Specialised area and how to stay up to date

The Third Strand is Child Care for the Over 8s which will be advertised locally using Mumsnet, the local Spotted Wollaton, Posters to Schools etc.

The Fourth Strand is to try to build a Virtual Assistant locally for Word Processing and Social Media Design and Maintenance for small companies.

There is room for PAYE Contract, Supply or Temporary work within this structure with the QAA Confidence hours moving to evenings and weekends. ChildCare for the over 8s being in School Holidays and afternoons.

Other Strands to bring in later are about online information – building a following, perhaps linking to Group meetings which may be funded on a sessional basis.

This Aim Higher Lifestyle theme that runs across all the four strands and the ‘other input’ info includes Health and Green Space and spins neatly into an awareness of the Tourist Industry for Leisure Time - which is one of the Regions’ most lucrative areas of Business at the present time – how Greenspace can have an impact on Environment and non carbon based fuels being one of the One Nottingham themes.

Also there are themes on Nature Conservation and Wildlife protection and this means people taking an interest and so some of the Social Media Design and Other Strands can link into building a niche in the Nottingham Tourism Industry with the start point of our Local Music Festival and where the Amway and Tutoring and Child Care and Virtual Assistant people spend their leisure time.

Health and Childcare and Unemployment are inputs from working recently with Community Centres and their criteria for funding and some Computer Courses could be a sensible way to work with the local Communities for all age groups. Computer Courses and creative inputs might allow the next phase with a focus on advertising local trade and making a local magazine

The most time consuming of these business themes will be the Amway one – but once a few loyal customers and other Business Owners are on board it should provide a small and building regular income.

This Direct Sales Opportunity will take up a 50% share of the work direct door to door time and locating and contacting Sports groups for example - for the QAA Confidence new micro venture and of course it will be available to the parents who participate in the Tuition as well as being used for sales on the website(s) and the Students.

All of these themes help with Business Studies teaching either GCSE, A Level or BTEC (Tech vocational A Levels) with resources for Enterprise (The Amway case study is on the Times 100 Business Studies website) and Tourism.

The Aim Higher Lifestyle Micro Company with four main strands complements the Direct Sales of Healthy Products and particularly Water Filters –it’s important to be aware that the old world of only Carbohydrates based foodstuffs and unhealthy air and resources that are polluting our bodies and atmosphere are not the way forward for Businesses or Employees in the 21st Century .

Plus of course looking good.no matter what your age – water of life that’s uncontaminated is important for looks!

This business may co-incide with some Temporary PAYE work – and this would have to Dovetail into the work pattern.

For Example – a Temporary morning Teaching Contract or Secretarial Contract would not affect any Child Care or Tuition contracts and could be carried out in the same weeks.

If no QAA-Confidence (child care or tuition) contracts have been made – then the working time is free to seek other part time contracts in the PAYE world.

The style of the Self Employment means that the business can continue in the evenings and week-ends around any temporary, contract or supply PAYE work.

INCOMINGs

The Business has an expectation of payment in return for invoices sent out to customers and these invoices ensure that the Probability of payment is one that is a fundamental cornerstone of the micro business.

A contract of four weeks is forwarded in respect of strands that are the essential core of the business, Tuition and Childcare for the over8s (in School holidays).

The activity is regular, to a timetable, developed and organised and has set working hours.

In the development phase this may not return the basic turnover and profit as most businesses take time to become established.

In the past the client base was acquired via Agencies and Advertising as stated above and this will resume and in addition online advertising and additional strands will be used to attract a regular turnover.

There will be a presence on online websites.

The Business will have a number of strands, some will need daily attention, some weekly, some monthly and some seasonally.

Micro Company QAAWyrd and Dilydaydream 2007-2012

A small micro Company as a Private Tutor ran from 2007 to 2012 and was reasonably successful being carried out in conjunction with caring for a very elderly parent in the hours that paid for carers were not available.

Social Media and Websites

At the same time the Websites I designed were created to make an online presence and in the intervening years Social Media has taken off and I have been able to work with it during my out of work phase. It is a huge industry with many small and local businesses participating but not keeping up to date.

Local Shopping – future strand – and Computer Clubs for all ages creating local resources e.g. a Magazine

The local economy is based around a few small shopping areas in the City Suburb with local traders and a couple of local Towns where the old shopping experience of talking to the shopkeeper is the norm and there are lots of Restaurants and Coffee Bars.

There is an opportunity to build a cohesive structure in an online website that could make offers in return for adverts to boost trade. This is obviously not really possible in the City but may be in the Creative Quarter for example.

Tourism

Lots of potential for review writing, Green Tourism visiting and Social Media input whilst linking to Travel and Tourism resources for teaching.

Less Tuition Commission of course.

2015 Strands

Hopefully QAA-Confidence can Generate the same micro income as the Coffee Bar Work and Continue until September (from April to July 2015 was spent as a Café Assistant – see the testimonial) and allow for other Part Time Secretarial or Teaching work – and be able to move from weekdays to evenings and weekends should PAYE work be available.

2 PRODUCT

A Service with four strands and building a background from the Amway Direct Sales presence.

The Tuition Service and Over8s Afterschool and Holiday Childcare to be small as it’s not possible to be in two places at once, although the Tuition could have an online presence for student essay reviewing for example.

The Business is to attract contracted clients using contracts for Months, Terms or Years.

The Virtual Assistant Service is to attract contracts from one or two clients on a monthly basis with the idea of making their Social Media accounts and designing them with to their criteria and then maintaining them (Facebook, Twitter etc) as well as the occasional Secretarial input. This links in with Temporary PAYE work too.

The Computer Courses will be in a second phase but could be developed possibly while the Over8s Childcare takes place (working on the internet in the clients home – either planning or even tutoring thereby allowing a discounted ChildCare rate).

The product is not particularly different from others – it is a Local Service that is available from other outlets but there are sufficient strands for the seasonal balance to be flattened and a regular turnover and profit (although small and lifestyle based) to be achieved. The Amway Business is Key for Commission and Networking.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Advantages – Little outlay in terms of products or necessary resources other than up to date text books and internet access (hopefully the Clients). Small Profit

Disadvantages - Potential Computer or Internet problems – contingency may be needed for repair and internet time etc.

3 MARKETS and COMPETITORS

Other Nutrition and Healthy Make-up outlets – Natural Foods Locally – Holland and Barrett – Boots and other Supermarkets with cut price products – the Vitamin Companies. These will be checked out price wise and background info wise against the Amway products.

Direct Sales in Health and Beauty Products plus Water Filters – Aim Higher health and lifestyle inputs, hopefully to students in Halls of Residence as a link to tuition also. Online orders

Other Tuition Specialists – although the nearest Competitor in the Tuition only offers English and Maths and may be prepared to recommend for Business Studies

Kumon the other large tuition franchise has lost some outlets locally because of the end of the EMA in the sameWay as QAAWyrd did and it should not affect Business Studies.

Childcare – most Child Carers are for the under 8s and its £100 to register with the council on a voluntary basis but that’s an expense that should be met as soon as possible.

Virtual Assistant – there is a large number of individuals working this way on the internet but if I can findOne or two loyal clients I won’t need to compete for pay per job work particularly for an enthusiastic and available Social Media designer and maintainer – advertised locally it may work.

So we need to recap some information that goes back to 2007-2012 which is the background to the plan.

Summary – History

Previous Micro Company which Ceased ‘Trading’ in 2012 without any debts or unfinished contracts.

The QAAWyrd & DilyDaydream Sole Trading Micro Company traded from 2007 to 2012 as purely an Aim Higher Lifestyle Company which comprised a Private Tuition Business and Resource Making Business with a Direct Sales for Avon Team Leading.

The reason for including Avon Team Leading was to include the Communities and Families where Students wanted to go to University for the first time and to encourage confidence in the possibility of some of the Community going to University and the ones in the traditional streams or local trades finding encouragement, confidence and a personal lifestyle boost too. It was also an excellent resource for Business Enterprise.

The micro Company was marketed as an Aim Higher lifestyle kind of activity with a focus on gaining Qualifications, particularly in Business Studies and ICT, English and Maths plus an insight into many of the associated linked activities which would be a likelihood at University or College, living away from home or just living a lifestyle in a non-blue collar environment. Not that there is anything wrong with a Blue Collar Environment – but it is different from White Collar or Qualified. For this reason there was also a focus on Travel and Tourism and Social Media.

The Company started at the same time as Nottingham faced lots of downsizing and loans became available for anyone to achieve a University place, it’s focus was on making improvements on individual students grades in Non Linear (Case Study) A Levels. The local Secondary Schools are not high up in the National Tables for various reasons, one being the fact that there are two selective High Schools in the City where students are sent from families with different criteria and beliefs about Education from the majority of the City.

The Company had a presence on the Beanbag learning website, and the Local Tutor Forum and Students were recommended to the sole trading micro company by two local Agencies. Beanbag Learning is now the Tutor Hub and the Local Tutor Forum at http://localtutor.co.uk/search/13648/?q=qaawyrd&o=dateThe Company found students via two local Tuition Agencies, Nottinghamshire Tutors and the Home School Tutoring Agency. (not schooling for those excluded). http://www.homeschooltutoring.co.uk/

An Agency or Franchise was evaluated for this particular agency but on discussions asking the Company to allow a different name or change their webname to attract better click-throughs from google was not seen as a likely change and so it was not on balance a good investment..

Several other resources were made to collect information and disseminate information to students – one of these was a website on Vistaprint which was discontinued where there was a pay per click scare – and one twitter in particular. Adverts were taken into the local Colleges and these did generate some interested students.

Further work in a role as an Avon Team Leader creating a Team of Direct Selling individuals complemented the Tuition Company and balanced the tuition outlay concept and also the potential lending as a Student as this role is one where your own hours of work are possible. The Aim Higher process for first time University is one where students from traditionally skilled or lower waged households are the first ones in their family, community or area to go to University to become Qualified. In this role the level of Premier Club Sales Person was achieved in a short space of time.
