SYSTEM OVERVIEW
Markings, Labels and Warning Signs.
A. Purpose: Provides emergency responders with appropriate warning and
guidance with respect to isolating the solar electrical system. This can facilitate
identifying energized electrical lines that connect the solar panels to the inverter, as
these should not be cut when venting for smoke removal.
B. Main Service Disconnect
1. Residential buildings - the marking may be places within the main service
disconnect. the marking shall be placed on the outside cover if the main service
disconnect is operable with the service panel closed.
3. Markings: Verbiage, Format, and Type of material.
a. Verbiage: CAUTION: SOLAR ELECTRIC
SYSTEM CONNECTED
b. Format:
(1) White Lettering on a red background.
(2) Minimum

inches letter height.
(3) All letters shall be capitalized
(4) Arial or similar font, non-bold.
c. Material:
(1) Reflective, Weather resistant material
suitable for the environment (use UL -
969 as standard for weather rating).
Durable Adhesive materials meet this
requirement.
C. Marking Requirements on DC Conduit, Raceways,
Enclosures, Cable Assemblies, DC Combiners, and
Junction Boxes:
1. Marking Placement, Verbiage, Format, and Type of
Material.
(a.) Placement: Marking shall be placed at every
10 feet on all interior and exterior DC Conduit,
Raceways, Enclosures, Cable Assemblies, at
turns, above and/or below penetrations, all DC
Combiners, and Junction Boxes.
(b.) Verbiage: CAUTION: SOLAR CIRCUIT
NOTE: The Format and Type of material
Shall adhere to "V. B-3b, c" of this requirement.
D. Inverters - Are Not Required To Have Caution Markings
1. CONDUCTORS EXPOSED TO SUNLIGHT SHALL BE LISTED AS SUNLIGHT RESISTANT
PER NEC 310.0(D)
2. CONDUCTORS EXPOSED TO WET LOCATIONS SHALL BE SUITABLE FOR USE IN WET
LOCATIONS PER NEC 310.8(C)
3. WORKING CLEARANCES AROUND THE EXISTING AND NEW ELECTRICAL
EQUIPMENT WILL BE MAINTAINED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE NEC 110.26
4. EXPOSED CONDUIT TO BE PAINTED TO MATCH ROOF COLOR
5. SMOKE ALARMS AND C02 ALARMS TO BE INSTALLED
6. STRUCTURAL MEMBER LOCATIONS ARE ESTIMATED AND SHOULD BE LOCATED
AND VERIFIED AS NECESSARY FOR LAG BOLT PENETRATIONS BY CONTRACTOR.
7. SEAL CONNECTION POINTS WITH ROOF GRADE
8. ROOF PENETRATIONS ARE SEALED WITH SCHNEE MOREHEAD 7108 SEALANT.
1. PV ARRAYS CONTAIN (28) SOLARWOLRD 250W MODULES
2. PV ARRAY WIRING TO JUNCTION BOX IS #12 AWG (ENPHASE TRUNK CABLE) WITH
FACTORY PROVIDED MC CONNECTORS.
3. PV ARRAY COMBINER/JUNCTION BOX PROVIDES TRANSITION FROM ARRAY WIRING
TO CONDUIT WIRING.
4. PV POWER SOURCE, 600Vdc, NEMA 3R RAINPROOF, 30A AC DISCONNECT
5. PROVIDE GROUND ELECTRODE SYSTEM FROM INVERTER TO EXISTING MAIN
SERVICE GROUND ELECTRODE PER C.E.C. ARTICLE 250.50 THROUGH 250.86.
6. GROUND ELECTRODE CONDUCTOR FROM INVERTER TO GROUND ELECTRODE TO
BE MINIMUM PROTECTION OF BARE ARMOR SHEATED CABLE FOR ALL CONDUCTOR
SIZES.
7. ALL GROUND CONNECTED TO MAIN SERVICE GROUND IN MAIN SERVICE PANEL.
8. CONNECTORS SHALL BE POLARIS IT-4.
9. INVERTERS SHALL BE (28) ENPHASE M215 MICROINVERTERS
10. INVERTER IS LISTED TO UL-1741 "UTILITY INTERACTIVE"
11. AC DISCONNECT IS VISIBLE OPEN, LOCKABLE, 240Vac,30A
12. EQUIPMENT GROUNDING CONDUCTORS ON AC AND DC SIDE SIZED
13. NEGATIVE POLE OF PV ARRAY REFERENCED TO GROUND AT THE INVERTER.
14. ALL CONDUCTORS SHALL BE 600V, 90C STANDARD COPPER. ALL CONDUCTORS IN
CONDUIT SHALL BE THWN-2.
15. MAXIMUM DC/AC VOLTAGE DROP SHALL BE NO MORE THAN 1.5%
16. ALL CONDUCTORS SHALL BE CONDUIT UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED.
17. DC ARRAY CONDUCTORS ARE TO REMAIN OUTSIDE OF BUILDING PRIOR TO
FUSIBLE COMBINER BOX OR FUSIBLE DISCONNECT MEANS.
1. ALL WORK TO COMPLY WITH (2011 NEC) 2013 CALIFORNIA ELECTRIC
CODE ARTICLE 690, 2013 CALIFORNIA BUILDING CODE.
2. CONDUCTORS EXPOSED TO SUNLIGHT SHALL BE LISTED AS
