Purpose of Intervention

• Ensure that all pupils are able to access the curriculum by removing barriers to learning.

• Maximise the academic outcomes for every pupil.• Build resilience within all pupils and equip pupils with

the skills to deal with barriers.• Ensure all pupils leave GHS able to function

successfully in society with fully developed social and emotional skills.

Causes of Underperformance

Failure to tackle early indicators of underperformance when first identified.

Lack of engagement due to the negative effects such as attitude to learning, low aspirations, inappropriate behaviour for learning, low levels of attendance, poor quality homework etc.

Factors outside the control of the

student(s) such as illness, a dysfunctional

home life, high levels of mobility,

difficulties in accessing the curriculum

through language problems, etc.

An inappropriate curriculum or poor quality

teaching, learning and / or assessment.

Inadequate levels of challenge.

Identifying a need for Intervention

• Monitoring academic progress at data collections 4 times per year.

• Monitoring behaviour and attendance data.• Feedback from teaching staff and tutors.• Liaising with parents.• Concerns raised by pupils themselves or their peers.• Eligible for support via pupil premium funding.• SEND support identified.

• Classroom teachers are responsible for matching their teaching to the individual needs of pupils, therefore providing appropriate intervention within the classroom.

• Detailed gap analysis from key assessment pieces will allow teachers, pupils and parents to work together to close gaps in subject knowledge and skills.

• Homework/Drop-in sessions run at lunchtime whole school or in subject areas where pupils can be directed to support.

• Mathematics and English departments have a dedicated teaching assistant who are targeted to support within lessons, with small group work and after school support.

House Intervention

• Tutors mentor small groups of their tutor group on a rota during tutor time.• Tutors monitor behaviour and achievement points and pupils can be put on a

monitoring report to refocus the pupil quickly.• Heads of House regularly liaise with teachers, tutors and parents to ensure

they have an overall picture of every pupils in their house and can coordinate appropriate intervention within school.

• Heads of House/SLT monitor more serious concerns with regard to behaviour or attendance through our reporting system.
