PUMPKIN ALE STARTED WITH A LIST: or Rhinebeck I waned a versaile cardigan ha could be worn open or closed; worn as a jacke, possibly even layered over a hinner sweaer i he weekend was cool; pockes were a mus or keeping change, business cards and a map handy; and he silhouete should be one ha was easy o wear or many differen body shapes.
Pumpkin Ale begins wih a richly exured back panel ha combines garer sich and some o my avourie cable paterns. Working he panel by isel means ha you can ocus on he sich patern  wihou worrying abou shaping he res o he sweaer. Siches are picked up down each side o he back panel and worked back and orh o creae side panels ha wrap around o orm he ron o he cardigan. Te shaping wihin he back cable panel is combined wi h shor rows a he sides o creae a flatering flare rom he wais. An edging patern made up o only kni and purl siches is  worked simulaneously: simple bu effecive.
Aer joining he shor shoulder seams, sleeve caps are shaped wih shor rows on siches picked up around he armhole. Te sleeves are worked in he round rom he op down and eaure a small cable patern ha echoes ha on he back panel. Te spli cuff is worked back and orh, kni ono he live sleeve siches.
A wide garer sich band is worked on he live siches rom he rons and siches picked up around he back neck; an I-cord bind-off gives a nea finished edge. Te neckband can be olded o creae a collar or flipped up or exra cosiness when he day urns chilly. I wouldn' be auumn  wihou some plaid flannel, so I used abric o creae he pocke linings; i you don' sew hey could  jus as easily be kni.
