Puma Prints Principal’s Article I am excited to share that we have parents and grandparents who recently formed a PTSA! Because of the work and effort of few wonderful folks they have laid the groundwork for the Park Place staff to begin to build a strong coalition with our parents and community. Even with all the excitement about our new PTSA we still have a lot of challenges to face as we begin to form our new PTSA. It is difficult for five or six people to run a PTSA for a school as large as Park Place. For that reason I am asking that you consider joining our new PTSA. The first meeting for the Park Place PTSA has been scheduled for December 8 th at 7:00 pm in the Park Place Library. At that meet the PTSA Board will be discussing their goals for the year and our new PTSA. In addition, the Park Place Middle School Associated Student Body Officers will be attending the meeting and sharing their goals for the year and asking for the support of the PTSA. I believe that a good measure of a strong and vibrant school is level of parent involvement in the school. While there are many ways to stay connected with your child’s education, I can’t think of a better way to stay involved in a child’s education than being a member of a school’s PTSA. Jane Hull once said, “At the end of the day, the most overwhelming key to a child’s success is the positive involvement of parents.” For this reason I am encouraging you to attend our first PTSA meeting on December 8 th and learn about the opportunities PTA of- fers for you to make a significant and positive impact upon your child’s education and their middle school experience. With Thanksgiving rapidly approaching I wanted to remind parents that our students will be released from school at 11:50 am on Wednesday, November 25 th . For all students wanting to purchase a lunch, sack lunches will be available as they were during Conference Week. Our bus riding students will be released a little before 11:50 so they can pick up their lunches on the way to the bus. Finally, we are beginning our second sports season. During the second sports season we will be offering girl’s 7 th and 8 th grade volleyball and 7 th and 8 th grade boy’s basketball. Our first games are scheduled to begin the week on November 23 rd . If you have the opportunity I would like to invite you to come and cheer for the Pumas! • 2015-16 Transportation Bulletin

When the weather outside is frightful… Monroe Public Schools is dedicated to ensuring a safe ride to school for your child(ren) in all weather conditions. Transportation will only be provided when it is determined conditions are safe. If school is canceled due to weather or another emergency, Monroe Public Schools will use June 22, 23 and 24 (in this order) in 2016 as days to make up lost class time. Students and their families will be notified prior to using these dates. There will be times when transportation services will either be canceled or significantly altered to ensure the safety of our students. The information that follows explains potential changes that could occur. School will always be open unless a Monroe Public Schools’ closure announcement is recorded on the School Schedule HOTLINE (360.804.2950). Changes to transportation services are usually decided by 6 a.m., however with the speed our weather changes some decisions may be made later. A Bus HOTLINE (360.804.2951) has also been established to provide information when school buses are running late due to road construction, traffic or other delays. Families will find school and bus schedule changes by:

Checking your family’s email - (sign up for an email alert notice* or Twitter on the schools’ website) Checking the schools’ website at www.monroe.wednet.edu Calling the School Schedule HOTLINE (360.804.2950)

    * Visit flashalert.net/login to subscribe to the email alert system. Typical school schedule announcements made during bad weather may include: Schools Closed - All Monroe Public Schools will be closed. It is understood that all school meetings and after-school activities are automatically canceled unless specific announcements are made to the contrary. If the weather improves, families may listen to the School Schedule HOTLINE (360.804.2950) for updated information about events and activities.

Two Hours Late - Schools will start two hours late. Buses will arrive at the bus stop two hours later than usual. Schools will close at the regular times. (NOTE: See inside pages on how this affects school schedules and special programs.)

If school starts 2 hours late then the following

will occur, there will be: No Pre-school for the session scheduled that morning

No “zero” hour classes at Monroe High School

    No transportation to ROTC

No transportation to programs or schools outside the district

(Includes Sno-Isle Skil ls Center which follows the Mukilteo School District’s schedule)

Limited Bus Transportation - Monroe Public Schools will be open with l imited transportation service. (See listing of l imited routes.) Limited transportation service means some bus routes will travel a different route. Please note: Posted weight restrictions on local roads apply to school buses.

    - MORE -

  • CAUTION: When weather changes during the day road conditions will be reviewed. Any changes to service will be reported through email alerts, Twitter, on the schools’ website and the Bus HOTLINE (360.804.2951). In addition, bus routes may attempt to run, however upon arrival at each area, the bus driver may decide a safety hazard exists and will not be able to complete the scheduled route. Drivers will use alternate routes to bypass the more dangerous roads. (See limited routes)

In this case, a message is recorded on the Bus Hotline (360.804.2951) and no child leaves the bus without previous signed permission from their family or contact being made with families to ensure there is a safe place for the child. In the event a parent or guardian cannot be reached the child is returned to either the school or the Transportation Office, 1410 W. Main Street in downtown Monroe.

We strive to provide the best service to our families so when the weather improves by the afternoon, buses may be able to complete regular routes in the afternoon that were unable to be traveled in the morning. This information is also recorded on the Bus Hotline (360.804.2951). PLEASE NOTE: No announcement means Monroe Public Schools’ classes are in session with normal transportation provided for all students. Families may confirm school schedules by calling the school closure line (360.804.2950) for a recorded message. When limited Transportation Routes are announced, buses will not travel: Maltby area – East Side of Hwy 522
