The 2013/2014 academic year is a very

important one for Saginaw Valley State

University. Celebrating our 50th

anniversary as a learning institution.

Once upon a time, the year was 1963, in

a land of vast farm articles of parchment were created for the kingdom

of Saginaw Valley College. The first king, Samuel Marble, was

appointed in 1964 along with the first 119 village people to move into

the kingdom. The village people made their mark and watched as the

kingdom expanded. Jack Ryder became the second King in 1974 and

under his rule the kingdom underwent drastic and rapid changes. In

1975 the kingdom changed its title to Saginaw Valley State College,

King Ryder constructed eight castles for the village people to improve

their skills as well as a cottage for their housing needs. King Ryder had

the Kingdom’s name changed one last time in 1987 to Saginaw Valley

State University. Our current King, Eric Gilbertson, was appointed in

1989, working tirelessly to create the beautiful kingdom we have today.

In 1999 the first freshmen cottage, Living Center North, was created.

The Kingdom of Saginaw Valley State University now has over 2,700

people enjoying their cottages and they are living happily ever after.

Each business will be receiving a copy of the solicitation letter that is provided in the

appendix. The tax collectors will be working tirelessly making phone calls and e-mails to each

business in order to gain monetary donations and confirm their contributions. In addition to the

businesses our staff will be asking for allocations from student organizations such as Residence

Housing Association, Student Association, Student Life, Program Board, as well as the

Residential Hall Councils. Once upon a No Frills already has contributions from National

Residence Hall Honorary, University Conference and Event Center and ITS.

Our castle is the Four Points By Sheraton, located 3.6 miles, just a quick 5 minute drive from the village. It is also only 42 miles from Bishop International Airport in Flint, Michigan and 11 miles from the Midland, Bay City, Saginaw Airport. It will be undergoing renovations during the Summer of 2013 and will have a completely new interior and exterior. There is also

complimentary wireless internet, local shuttle service, iron and ironing board and bottled water. By No Frills 2014 there will be a new fitness center, indoor/outdoor pool and a whirlpool sauna! There is also a business center that is open 24 hours! Each delegate room will have two queen sized beds for four delegates. There will also be a large desk with outlets for laptops and cell phone chargers. It’s the perfect space to review bids and legislation! The front desk will have an employee available at all hours and there is always the option of a wake-up call! The Four Points By Sheraton is ne a r ma ny r e s ta ur a nts including Applebee’s, Buffalo Wild Wings, Bennigan’s, T.G.I. Friday’s, and many more!

The Inventor, Tyler Bradley, will be creating the website for the No Frills 2014 conference. Online registration will be available through the website in order to save paper and promote greener campuses throughout the region. In addition to registration the website will also hold all of the important documents such as the budget, updates on sponsorships, when necessary flyers for our fundraisers, and others. The website will also hold the schedule with announcements of any changes in dates as well as a contact page with names, pictures, e-mails and telephone numbers so contact will be available 24/7. Tyler will also work with different members of staff for a FAQ page where a discussion board option will be available for any confusion with directions, food sources and hotel services. After talking to IACURH Director and Joey, we are leaning towards building our website through Google Sites. With this option we can work with the RBD and get all the Bids, Legislation, and all other conference material on one website, rather than having to use the Regional Website and the No Frills Conference website.

1. Alcohol Possession is in violation of the NACURH dry conference policy. Therefore, alcohol should not be consumed, concealed, or purchased during the No Frills 2014 conference regardless of the delegate’s age at the time of the conference. 2. Illicit Drugs or possession are prohibited at the No Frills 2014 conference. If this is violated on campus, campus police will be called and the delegate will be removed from the No Frills 2014. If this occurs off campus the delegate will be removed from the No Frills 2014 conference at the delegate’s expense. 3. Property damage is unacceptable and will be paid for by the delegate’s sharing the room or by the individual responsible. Damages in other areas will be paid for by those involved.

Saginaw Valley State University has a 24-hour police force that patrols by car, bike and feet 365 days a year. For non-emergency calls the SVSU police can be reached at the number 989-964-4141 and, in case of emergencies, SVSU has several blue-light alert systems that will alert the police of an incident. On campus our conference staff will be available throughout the duration of the days to walk the delegates to each location to ensure no one is lost or harmed. The Four Points by Sheraton has a front desk that is fully staffed 24 hours a day. Brittany, the Castle Administrator, will be working closely with the hotel to ensure that they are prepared for the SVSU conference staff that will be at the hotel throughout the weekend to answer any questions that delegates may have.

The chariot and guard chair will be providing different options for transportation between the airports, train stations, the hotel and the kingdom. The hotel provides a shuttle that runs to SVSU and back, the schedule will be provided on the website once it is acquired. While SVSU does offer van services from the airport and train stations we recommend that you fly into either MBS International Airport or Bishop International Airport. SVSU vans charge by the mile so flying into either Bishop, which is 44 miles away, or MBS, which is 11 miles away would be the most cost efficient. Detroit Metro Airport is 116 miles away, an achievable drive, but with a higher fuel cost. The Amtrak station is located in Flint, which is also only a 45-minute drive from our main campus!

The 2014 No Frills Business Meeting will be held in Saginaw Valley

State University’s Ott Auditorium. The Alan W. Ott Auditorium can seat

up to 270 people and is filled with the latest technology. Each desk has

outlets to plug in your laptops and has spots for Ethernet plug ins. Inside

the building we have reserved 5 single classrooms for sub-regions, and

two double classrooms for the NRHH board room and a double

classroom for the ART Sessions. Each classroom has a large display

with an HDMI cable hook up. The front of the classrooms and the

auditorium comes with a podium for the speaker to stand by and have a

place to put their laptop and paperwork.

Friday Once you arrive to Saginaw on Friday night you will have the chance to visit our local restaurants! Within just a few miles you have the option of going to Applebee’s, Buffalo Wild Wings, Red Lobster or Famous Dave’s and various other restaurants! Another favorite is the Cardinal Deli where you can purchase different types of sandwiches. Once you enter the Castle, we will provide you with a list and map of all the restaurants nearby.

Saturday On Saturday morning the Olivia A. Lake Chapter of the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) will provide the guests with their delicious signature pancake breakfast! A village people favorite is their chocolate chip pancakes. Yum! Jimmy Johns will cater Saturday’s luncheon! A delicious variety of subs, sandwiches and chips will be served with a various selection of beverages. After working all afternoon in the boardroom, dinner will be provided in the kingdom’s Grand Dining hall. The Grand Dining Hall (The Marketplace at Doan) offers a variety of meals including Pizza, Salad, home cooked meals, Stir-fry, hamburgers, and light desserts.

Sunday Sunday morning will conclude with a grab-and-go breakfast. Bagels, juice and coffee will be provided for the guests in kingdom.

***Our Head Chef will take note of everyone’s dietary restrictions and allergies from the registration forms to provide a pleasant dining experience for everyone!

The castle will be providing a complimentary hospitality room equipped with food and drink for when the boardroom recesses on Friday and adjourns on Saturday. We have contacted Buffalo Wild Wings and we are in the progress of contacting other businesses on our sponsorship page to discuss other donations or contributions to hospitality. Due to NACURH policies there will be no caffeinated beverages offered at hospitality and we will have cards and games available for entertainment.

In case of early adjournment on Saturday night our conference staff will be supply the No Frills delegates with a movie in our TSAR. We will also supply games in the wedge lounges as well as our smiling faces.

SVSU will work with NACURH Associate for NRHH to see if they will be doing a NACURH wide service project. If so, we will work with them on how we can participate at No Frills. If a NACURH wide project will not be done then we are going to create our own service project and invite regional schools to contribute.

Although this is a business meeting, the attendees will have time to explore the area on Friday, March 7, 2014 and on Sunday, March 9, 2014. In order to provide a great experience for the attendees we are asking for your help. We are currently working on raising funds to offset the total cost of the conference. Although the attendees do pay to attend the conference we are looking to lower the cost in any way possible. In return of any support that your business can provide we will be more than willing to show off your company’s logo throughout the weekend. Our staff will be wearing T-Shirts that we will put it on and then there will be multiple conference materials that the attendees will receive that we can put your logo and company name in. Any donations you are able to provide will help us welcome them to Saginaw with open arms. If you have any questions or can support us in any way please do not hesitate to contact me. I would be more than happy to discuss with you and donation that you are willing to give. Sincerely, Haylie Chamarro Co-Chair, No Frills 2014 Saginaw Valley State University 248-563-3092

Regional Board of Directors and National Communication Coordinators

Dear Regional Board Members and National Communication Coordinators:

It is with great pleasure and confidence that I provide this letter of support on behalf of

Saginaw Valley State University’s Residence Housing Association and their bid to host the

No Frills 2014 Business Meeting for the Great Lakes Affiliation of College and University

Residence Halls.

I strongly urge you to choose Saginaw Valley State University as the host for the No

Frills 2014 GLACURH Business Meeting. The residential student leaders of Saginaw Valley

State University are ready, willing and able to make this meeting a success. When they of-

fered up the idea of hosting to me I was beyond thrilled. I was even more incredibly im-

pressed with their forethought and dedication to the idea. These driven characteristics, com-

bined with the support of the institution, will make for a successful conference. I am confi-

dent that the present leadership will be devoted to meeting all of the needs involved with the

meeting and to making it a phenomenal experience for all!

I write these words with all sincerity. It is an honor to support these student leaders. I

am tremendously proud of what they have already accomplished with this endeavor and have

no doubt that they will flourish in creating a grand event for the region. SVSU would be most

honored and appreciative if selected to host the No Frills 2014 GLACURH Business Meeting.

Thank you for your consideration.

It’s a GREAT day to be a Cardinal,

Bethany Thrun

February 11, 2013 Douglas Eck Living Center South 1327 7400 Bay Road University Center, MI 48710 To whom it may concern,

I am writing this letter on behalf of the Olivia A. Lake Chapter of the National Resi-

dence Hall Honorary on the campus of Saginaw Valley State University. Our chap-

ter is in unanimous support of bid for Saginaw Valley State University to host the

No Frills 2014 business meeting. Additionally, financially speaking we as an organi-

zation are in a place to allocate ample amount in our budget for the 2013/2014 aca-

demic year to support this meeting.

We as students take much pride in our campus and the things it has to offer. It’s a

beautiful place to go to school with an amazing atmosphere to learn and live. Our

leaders on campus are dedicated to not only the success and advancement of

themselves but also the community as a whole. We are confident that the group of

leaders, the staff that is assembled, will do an outstanding job representing our uni-

versity and ensuring the success and fluidity of the business meeting. Our campus

facilities are top notch and the surrounding area has much to offer students and

guests alike.

In conclusion, our chapter fully supports this bid. As an organization we are confi-

dent that there is no better place for a meeting like this than our campus.

Sincerely, Douglas Eck Saginaw Valley State University Olivia A. Lake Chapter, NRHH – President
