BANDON – “The Wizard of Oz” is comingto Bandon with 12 performances betweenThursday, Aug. 10, and Sunday, Aug. 27.

“The Wizard of Oz” is a heartwarming taleof magic and fantasy, good and evil, and fam-ily and friendship. Based on L. Frank Baum’snovel and the 1939 film, this musical adaptionof “The Wizard of Oz” was originally pro-duced by the Royal Shakespeare Company inLondon in 1987 with music by Harold Arlenand lyrics by E.Y. Harburg. The score is full ofthe timeless film tunes such as “We’re Off ToSee the Wizard,” “If I Only Had A Brain,”“The Merry Old Land of Oz,” and, of course,the classic “Over The Rainbow.”

The Bandon Playhouse revival features acast and crew of more than 40 local perform-ers led by Zeta Hay as Dorothy, the charmingyoung girl from Kansas. The supporting castincludes Lori Straley as Glinda the GoodWitch, Heather Bouher as Miss Gulch/the

Wicked Witch, Josiah Hay as the Tin Man,Dustin Wilson as the Scarecrow, Joe Latimeras the Cowardly Lion, and Jay Straley asProfessor Marvel/The Wizard. This productionalso features a complete castle set, full cos-tumes and many special effects.

The show is directed by Jeff Norris, withPaul Hay as producer.

BANDON -- Second Street Gallery welcomes photographicartist Susan Dimock, Saturday, August 12, for a Meet & Greetthe Artist from noon-4 p.m.

Dimock is a nature photographer who specializes in wildlife,“birdscapes” and seascapes. Presently she is working on an in-depth portfolio of the Oregon Coast with a special emphasis onthe Oregon Islands National Wildlife Refuge. She utilizes herwork to showcase the beauty and ecology of protected landswith the goal of contributing to the conservation of wildlife andnatural resources.

Dimock will be happy to talk with gallery visitors about herwork including techniques, shooting style and what she aspiresto accomplish with her art.

BANDON – A fundraiser willbe held starting at 2 p.m.Saturday, Aug. 12, at TheBarn/Bandon Community Centerfor lifetime resident Todd Freitag,who is suffering from pancreaticcancer.

The “Team Todd” fundraiser,organized by family and friends,will feature a barbecue tri-tipmeal with side dishes, live music,a cornhole tournament and silentand live auctions for $15. Whilethe event is sold out, organizerssay there may be tickets availableat the door, depending on capaci-ty.

Fall sports practices to begin

Fall sports practices official-ly start next week for Bandonand Pacific high schools.

Bandon's football team willpractice from 7-9 a.m. and 5-8p.m. on Monday, Wednesdayand Friday and 5-8 p.m. onTuesday and Thursday.

The volleyball team prac-tices from 9 a.m.-noon allweek and the cross countryteam practices from 5-7 p.m.each day.

Bandon has a $50 participa-tion fee per sport and a one-time $10 drug testing fee.

At Pacific, students pay $30per sport ($75 for three or moresports during the year).

Volleyball practice will beheld from 8-11:30 a.m.

Soccer practice runs from4:30-6:30 p.m. on the Pacificsoccer field. Soccer is a coedsport and includes bothBandon and Pacific students.

Cross country practice runsfrom 3:30-5 p.m.
