OFFICE OF THE PLENIPOTENTIARY FOR THE SERBIAN ECONOMY

The Office of the Plenipotentiary for the Serbian Economy was established shortly after the capitulation of Yugoslavia (April 19, 1941). It was located in Belgrade, with Obergruppenfuhrer Franz Neuhausen as Plenipotentiary. The Office of the Plenipotentiary comprised the following elements: Office of the Plenipotentiary for Metal Ore Mining; Office for the Provisional Administration of Jewish Property; Office of the Director of Military Administration and Commissioner for Private Banks; Banat Evaluation Commission; and Construction Office, Belgrade. The mission of the Office of the Plenipotentiary for the Serbian Economy was to exploit the Balkan areas to meet the objectives of the German Four Year Plan and to have these areas thereby serve the German war machine. The Plenipotentiary maintained liaison with the Army High Command, the Commanding General in Serbia, the Plenipotentiary for the Four Year Plan, the Director of the Reichsbank, and the Reich Ministries of Economics, Finance, and Posts and Telegraphs. The cards "Provisional Administration of Jewish Businesses and Landed Property" reflect the records of provisional administration and liquidation of confiscated Jewish businesses or landed properties. The records contain appointment of administrator, report of appraiser, inventory in appropriate cases, contract of sale, official approval of the contract, final accounting and deposit of the proceeds of sale to the account of the Deputy for the Serbian Economy.
