FACTSHEET PTV OPTIMA The mobility of goods and people is a critical issue of concern to our society. Thus, the ability to forecast traffic conditions realistically and to decide on optimal trips for road users and vehicles allows individuals and companies to plan their activities more efficiently. This adds up to substantial savings for the society as a whole. Today, a vast amount of data, like flow, density and speed from roadside detectors as well as travel times from Floating Car Data (FCD) or Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) systems is available – as historical and real-time data. At the same time, there are mobile communication technologies that support dynamic decision-making and adaptive strategies that provide road users with real-time traveller information. First projects approve that the benefit of these already existing data sources and tools can be enhanced significantly through PTV Optima. PTV Optima is the modelling technology providing an accurate forecast of traffic flow and road congestion. It propagates the traffic data measured on only some of the network links in space and time and calculates a comprehensive traffic state estimation and forecast on all links of the network for up to one hour. PTV Optima reaches a high level of precision in short term traffic predictions over the whole graph.
